ROH Episode 43: New Women’s Championship Incoming
Sadly this episode started 40 minutes late as ROH had technical issues with Honorclub. However, there were amazing matches on deck for this episode as it was the fallout from Final Battle. As well as a huge announcement from Tony Khan regarding a new championship being introduced to ROH!
M.E.M.:
Athena says that this is the most important M.E.M. of the year because nobody thought she would win at Final Battle, but she proved the fans wrong and won. She asks Lexy why she hesitated to bring her the ROH Women’s title in the middle of the match and she says she did not hear her. Athena says later in the night Starkz will have a message for all of the fans, but for now, she is going to take out all of her aggression that Nair caused on Maya World.
The WorkHorsemen (JD Drake and Anthony Henry) vs The Von Erichs (Marshall and Ross Von Erich):
Before the match begins Drake cuts a promo on the Texas crowd saying that they will prove in their match that they are the true heroes of Texas and not a team like the Von Erichs. This match was great, I would love for the Von Erichs to be in ROH more often. In all three opportunities that they had on AEW programming this week, they showed that they are a great tag team. After the match was over Anthony and Henry attacked The Von Erichs, as Kevin applied the Mandible Claw to Henry and the Texas crowd went crazy.
Winners: The Von Erichs (Marshall and Ross Von Erich)
ROH Women’s Championship Proving Grounds Match: Athena vs Maya World:
Despite losing this past Friday, Starkz looked excited to be out there with Athena during this match. Commentary mentioned during the match that World was a rookie who is currently trained by Athena which I thought was a nice touch. Athena dominated most of this match-up, but World had a great showing, would love to see more of her. After the match, Athena raised World’s arm and then attacked her as Starkz laughed on.
Winner: “And Still” Athena
Tony Khan’s Announcement:
Khan says that the Women’s Division in ROH has been growing and he wants to make more history in the division. He introduces the Women’s Television Championship as Ian and Caprice says that more information will be provided in the coming weeks. In my opinion, Leyla Hirsch should be the one to win that inaugural title.
Dante Martin vs. Lee Johnson:
Martin’s singles return to ROH! This match was fun. Both of these men are going to be the future of the wrestling business, whether it be in ROH or AEW. The match was a great back-and-forth and could have been anyone’s match, but in the win, Martin returns with a huge win!
Winner: Dante Martin
Men of the Year Promo:
Page says that this win feels great and he has always said he was going to be great, but he never believed what he had said until recently. He says the locker room in ROH is filled with people who are not confident and he is ready to prove why he is one of the best. He is also excited now that he has backup in his best friend Scorpio Sky. Sky says that Page has been supportive through his entire TNT Title run and now he is here until Page fulfills the promise he made his daughter and he finally wins ROH gold.
Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona) vs. Willie Mack and Blake Christian:
Gates of Agony have learned a lot in the New Japan Tag League. They were very dominant throughout this match as they have a new focus and determination in all of their matches now. They ran through Mack and Christian and got the win.
Winners: Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona)
Lance Archer and The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent) vs Iron Savages (Bronson and Boulder) and Jackes Jameson:
I don’t know if I fully like the Righteous being partnered with Archer, but maybe after more time, it will grow on me. Iron Savages is the most entertaining team on the ROH Roster right now. They know how to get the crowd going and always get them involved in their matches. The newest team The Righteous and Archer won this match as they continue to prove themselves as a forceful trio on the ROH roster.
Winners: Lance Archer and The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent)
Gates of Agony Promo:
Kaun says they have come back from Japan and evolved as well as better men. He also says that they are going to wrestle every team in ROH until they get to the ROH Tag Team Championships. Nana says that Kaun and Liona are two men who are deserving of the titles and no one should be sleeping on them as a team as they will soon be the ROH Tag Team Champions.
Maria Kanellis, Griff Garrison, and Cole Karter Promo:
Kanellis says she is happy that they got the huge win last week and she thanks her song for doing the trick. She says she has been in the studio all week and they should be excited to see the final product of the song. In the meantime, she signed an eight-man tag match for tonight and she introduced Serpentico and Angelico as their tag team partners. Karter and Garrison are not happy about this, but Kanellis says to trust her they are great.
Taya Valkryie vs Vert Vixen:
Very happy to see Vert Vixen getting continued opportunities on ROH TV. Valkyrie was great here as she was able to shine throughout the match while also allowing Vert Vxen to show off in the match as well. Valkyrie gets the win as she goes 3-0 in ROH competition.
Winner: Taya Valkyrie
Shane Taylor Promotions Promo:
Lee Moriarty says he felt that Final Battle was his night to become ROH TV Champion and he is at a plateau and he does not know what to do. He says that he is going to get back to the top of ROH and prove that he is one of the best in ROH. Shane Taylor says everyone is on notice and STP is going to be on top of ROH.
Charlette Renegade vs Rachael Ellering:
This was a great match until Kanellis got involved. Kanellis pulled the leg of Ellering when she was looking to put the match away, and unlike a couple of weeks ago Hirsch caught her red-handed. Despite this Ellering was able to get the win as Hirsch and Ellering question Kanellis’s loyalty to both Ellering and Hirsch.
Winner: Rachael Ellering
Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie Promo:
Taya and Johnny celebrate Taya’s win as Nair asks about costing Castle at Final Battle. Johnny calls Castle a pigeon and says that Castle can never draw ratings like he and Valkryie do.
Dalton Castle Promo:
Castle says he has not slept and he is just devastated for the ROH viewers. He says the TV Championship was his ticket to every TV in the world and he was going to earn the respect of everyone in ROH. He was also going to be on the TV trucks and also make Castle figures, but Johnny TV ruined it for the viewers, Castle, and The Boys. He promises that Johnny and Taya will pay for what they did since they ruined ROH TV for everyone.
The Outrunners (Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd) vs The Infantry (Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean) vs Action Andretti and Darius Martin:
I questioned why Dante did not team with his brother instead of his singles match earlier in the night, but regardless. I do not like that we still have tag teams fighting over nothing and this is a problem that needs to get fixed sooner rather than later. These are all great teams that had a great match, but please fix the tag team title picture.
Winners: Action Andretti and Darius Martin
Maria Kanellis Promo:
Kanellis is excited for more opportunities for women with a new championship. Hirsch confronted Kanellis and said that she was trying to cost Ellering the match. Ellering says that being tied with Kanellis is not going to help any of them get closer to the ROH Women’s Championship. Hirsch apologizes to Ellering for not seeing that Kanellis was screwing her over all along. Ellering and Hirsch both say that the ROH Women’s Championship is a huge opportunity for both of them, so they should both go out there and try to win.
Serpentico, Angelico, Cole Karter, and Griff Garrison vs Gravity, Dalton Castle, and The Boys (Brent and Brandon Tate):
Castle came out with coffee and looked so distraught, I loved this. Anytime Gravity teams with Dalton and The Boys you know you are in for a good match. Castle was able to get into a groove once the match started and was able to get the win. Castle screamed into the TV that he did it for the people and that he is going to get his revenge on Johnny TV.
Winners: Gravity, Dalton Castle, and The Boys (Brent and Brandon Tate)
Gringo Loco and Jack Cartwheel vs Komander and El Hijo Del Vikingo:
Don’t blink when you watch this match, you might miss something. This was a fantastic main event and since Vikingo has been more of a regular on ROH TV it makes me believe that possibly he has some deal in the works with TK. The champs win the main event to close out the show, and don’t sleep on this main event guys go watch this one
Winners: Komander and El Hijo Del Vikingo
Overall:
I thought there were way too many backstage promos on this show. It was nearly every other segment and some of them honestly were not needed on this episode. However, just like every week the wrestling was great and sometimes that is all that matters in ROH World.
