It is Wednesday and this week Dynamite is at the Paycom Plaza in Oklahoma, OK. The commentary team is Tony Schiavone, Taz, and Excalibur.
This is the Holiday Bash!
Swerve Strickland vs Rush in a Continental Classic match
Tonight is the last night of the Gold League tournament, and the people with the two highest point totals fight next week in the semi-final.
They start with mat wrestling, and most matches have had different styles each night. They move to arm drags and the pace picks up. Rush’s leg is wrapped and the story is that both he and Swerve are banged up by the tournament, with Swerve’s shoulder still taped up. When Rush hits the Tranquilo pose, Swerve charges at him and grabs an arm bar. I want more of that kind of thing where if someone is posing, the other person takes advantage of it.
They move to kicks and strikes when we come back from commercial. Rush cant’ do the bull’s horns due to his leg, and Swerve pounces to grab a stretch muffler, and Rush reverses it. Rush tries for a pile driver, but his leg gives out again. They move to finishers and near falls, and the crowd is firmly on Swerve’s side. Swerve wins with the swerve stomp off the top.
Winner and getting 3 points and tying Jon Moxley with 12 points: Swerve Strickland
Chris Jericho joins us and informs us of Kenny Omega's illness. The Golden Jets title match is obviously off for World's End. Heartfelt get well wishes from Le Champion. I echo those sentiments. Get well soon, Kenny.
Continental Classic Gold League: Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Lethal
Lockup, neither has the advantage. Lockup, go behind by Lethal into a takedown. Trip by Briscoe. Side headlock, they trade shoulder blocks. Slap by Lethal, CHOPS by Briscoe. They exchange a lot of chops. Hip toss into a dropkick by Lethal. Redneck Kung Fu into a dropkick by Briscoe for 1. Punches to the ribs by Briscoe. Suplex by Lethal. Lethal with a kick sends Briscoe to the floor. Tope by Lethal. Briscoe catches him as he tries another and nails a suplex. Cactus Jack elbow by Briscoe as we go to commercial.
We're back and the two exchange forearms. CHOP by Lethal into a Lethal combination. Lethal to the top and Briscoe CHOPS him. Superplex attempt, Lethal blocks it and Briscoe falls to the mat. Briscoe with a slap and a running dropkick. Briscoe sets up a chair and dives on Lethal. German by Lethal into a kick. Torture rack by Lethal and he goes to the top. Elbow drop for 2 by Lethal. Briscoe ducks a lethal injection. Fisherman by Briscoe for 2. Kick by Lethal. DVD by Briscoe. Lethal gets his feet up, blocking a froggy bow. Jay Driller by lethal and he scores a 2.
This is a hell of a fun match.
Briscoe blocks another Injection and nails a Jay Driller and scores the pin.
WINNER MARK BRISCOE (3 points for the win, 3 overall)
Jay Lethal finishes his tournament with 0
Code of Honor adhered to.
We see video of MJF being inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
We get another video of Wardlow threatening MJF.
Samoa Joe comes to the ring and he’s got something to say. He says that while Roderick Strong is the dimmest bulb on the Christmas tree, but when someone is attacked by The Devil, we see the attack, but when MJF was attacked, we just see MJF on the ground, recovering. He calls for MJF to come to the ring.
MJF obliges him. MJF has a purple suit, so if he’s not the Devil, he might be The Joker. MJF says that while he got beat up, Joe is accusing him of being the Devil, and Joe agrees. MJF then reminds Joe he did a poor job of protecting him before their match at World’s End. He then says he shouldn't wait until World’s End when he can end Joe right now.
MJF takes off his blazer and belt and shoves Joe. The masked goons show up and both Joe and MJF fight them off. More goons show and then the lights go out. When the lights come back on, the Devil issues a challenge for the Ring of Honor tag team titles next week.
MJF says he has to accept, and Joe says he accepts because they best way to beat a Devil is to whip his ass.
Renee Paquette is in the back with Orange Cassidy, Kris Statlander, Trent Beretta, and Rocky Romero together. Rocky says he wants gold, and Cassidy says he’ll give him a title match on Rampage. As everyone leaves, Rocky says that wasn't what he wanted.
Timeless Toni Storm joins commentary.
Saraya vs Riho to see who faces Storm for the Women’s title.
Saraya beats down Riho and screams at her to start the match. As they fight, Ruby Soho is in the back watching. They quickly move to fighting on the floor, and Toni sends us to picture in picture. The story of the match is pretty simple with Saraya as the bruiser and Riho using her speed to stay in the game.
Storm is having so much fun on commentary, and Taz being called a Duplex machine is something that should stick.
Riho pulls out the win with the double stomp into a pin.
Winner: Riho
Toni and Luther go to the ring, and Toni uses opera glasses to look at Riho. Riho attacks and hits Toni with a Tiger Feint Kick, but Mariah May uses Toni’s title belt to stop Riho’s attack.
Toni acts as if she has no idea who May is.
Tony Schiavone has a prepared statement from Christian Cage. Cage’s note heels the crowd, puts himself over and will answer Adam Copeland’s challenge on Collision, Saturday. Cage’s note was typically over the top and was a nice bit to try to drag the audience over to Saturday’s show.
In the back, Joe and MJF are still arguing. MJF walks away and sees one of the Goon’s masks in front of the Embassy’s dressing room. He threatens Prince Nana, and Swerve comes out to confront him. Swerve asks why MJF is ducking him and MJF says Swerve’s just not on his level. Swerve says there are levels. He brings up the William Regal story and says there are levels. MJF does tryouts and he signs contracts.
They go back and forth. MJF then says Swerve might be framing Hangman as a way to get a shot at the World title. Swerve says’ he’s not the Devil, but if he keeps waving the title in front of him, maybe he’ll have to step up. The door opens and the rest of the Embassy shows, and Joe shows up to walk MJF away.
Roderick Strong vs Komander
This will be a match of high flying vs strength. Roddy spends a lot of time putting the mouth of Komander after he takes control and then Komander hits high flying stuff. Roddy has also grown a 1970’s mustache that Taz gets some nice mileage out of on commentary.
While it’s not a squash match, it is a match to put over that Roddy is a threat after just getting destroyed last week. Komander gets an offense streak when we come back from picture in picture. Roddy wins with a leaping knee strike as Komander leaps into the ring, and then hits a lung blower on Komander for the pin and the win.
Winner: Roderick Strong
Renee is in the ring after the match with Roddy, after Roddy’s neck brace is put back on. She asks about The Kingdom handing out “MJF is the Devil” signs to fans. Roddy tells Samoa Joe that he needs to pay attention to how MJF is the devil.
Jim Ross has joined the booth.
