Masked Republic announced:
MASKED REPUBLIC® & MAD ENGINE® LAUNCH APPAREL FOR CINELUCHA® BRAND
San Diego, CA
December 15, 2023
Masked Republic, the world's leader in expanding lucha libre and lucha culture beyond the border of Mexico, and Mad Engine, the global leader in consumer products, announced today a worldwide licensing agreement for Cinelucha branded apparel and the simultaneous release of 4 designs immediately available on Amazon in the United States.
Masked Republic's Cinelucha brand, first introduced to the world at San Diego Comic Con in 2022, brings fans of lucha libre, film and pop culture alike a brand new and exciting way to imagine modern day lucha stars in classic lucha libre film scenarios. Over 150 lucha libre films were produced from 1952 through the 1970s and their mix of campiness, practical effects and superstar casts have long left lucha libre and cult classic film fans yearning for a genre revival. This first wave of releases features Dragon Lee vs. Frankenstein's Monster, Lady Maravilla vs. The Vampire Count and Solar vs. The Space Eye. Also included in the wave are Latin music superstars Carlos "Spiff" Suarez and DJ Luan who will be heading out on their own Cinelucha comic adventure in 2024 as they become a team known as "Los Hunters de los Muerte" - the Hunters of the Dead.
"We could not ask for a better apparel partner than the leader in the space," Masked Republic Founder & CEO Ruben Zamora stated. “With massive online and retail footprints, we are excited to work with Mad Engine to build out Cinelucha's apparel offerings starting with our four exclusive designs available at Amazon today!"
“We are thrilled to announce our exciting collaboration with Masked Republic's Cinelucha brand, marking a dynamic partnership that merges the world of iconic lucha libre with the innovative and trendsetting spirit of Mad Engine apparel. Together, we are set to redefine the landscape of fashion and fandom, creating a collection that celebrates the rich heritage of masked wrestling in a stylish and contemporary manner.” added Mad Engine VP of Licensing Jessica Jordan.
As part of Amazon's exclusive window, fans can find all four designs on tees, tanks, raglans and hoodies. All four designs are sneak previews of forthcoming Cinelucha comics telling the stories captured in the art. Announcements regarding the company's publishing efforts are expected at San Diego Comic Con in July.
