Jey Uso of late has been using "Yeet" as part of his presentation, complete with a WWE t-shirt that was released in conjunction with the saying.
Last night, the "Yeet" was not used and footage of the shirt was blurred.
The reason for that looks to be that someone already has a trademark for the term "Yeet" when it comes to professional wrestling.
Independent wrestler Kasey Scott Huffman currently owns a trademark on the term for purposes of goods and services in the realms of "Entertainment services, namely, providing professional wrestling exhibitions, shows, and performances by professional wrestlers and entertainers rendered live and through live and recorded broadcast media, namely, television, radio, via the internet, and commercial online services; Conducting of entertainment events in the nature of sports exhibitions, shows, and performances by professional wrestlers and entertainers rendered live and through live and recorded broadcast media, namely, television, radio, via the internet, and commercial online services; Providing online wrestling and sports interviews, news, and information in the fields of wrestling and sports for entertainment purposes rendered live and through live and recorded broadcast media, namely, television, radio, via the internet, and commercial online services."
Huffman initially filed for the trademark in June 2021, well before WWE and Uso began using it.
Whether this is the end of Uso using "Yeet" remains to be seen. WWE in the past has made deals to acquire the trademarks of other ring names, including The Undertaker way back in the early 1990s as a Northeast tag team utilized the name The Undertakers for ICW, among other companies. After making the deal with the then-WWF, they worked events as Double Trouble. It's always possible WWE makes a deal with Huffman. Stay tuned.
