During an interview with The New York Post, AEW President Tony Khan noted that AEW is not paying Ric Flair. Instead, it's the other way around:
“We’re not paying Ric Flair; Ric Flair is essentially paying us. We’re getting paid by Wooooo Energy for all of his appearances, so we’re collecting revenue from them.”
A spokesperson for AEW confirms that Ric Flair has a separate talent agreement in place outside of the sponsorship agreement that compensates him for his work thus, the collaboration is mutually beneficial to all as AEW gets to have Ric Flair as part of the team and receive the monetary benefit of the sponsorship agreement.
Khan discussed Flair's involvement with AEW while discussing plans for Sting's retirement at Revolution 2024 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
