AEW World Championship: MJF (Champion) vs Jay White
Mike Johnson: Unless there is a massive swerve with a new challenger coming in, there is absolutely zero way to change the title here. MJF is the centerpiece of the company and Jay White has never really found his footing in AEW, in my opinion, thus far. This feels like a main event that will bridge MJF to the next big challenge.
Cory Strode: One of the things I like about this story is that MJF is beset on all sides while his past actions of being a jerk have come back to haunt him. Yes, Jay White having the belt is stupid, but it has elevated him to the top heel position in the company and allowed him to become the threat he was in New Japan. This match should be a good mix of styles with MJF coming out on top.
AEW International Championship: Orange Cassidy (Champion) vs Jon Moxley
Mike Johnson: Totally believe Moxley gets the title back but the right call would be Cassidy retaining and then Moxley showing respect.
Cory Strode: The booking for this one seems a bit too predictable to me, with Mox getting victories at every turn. Normally,m I would think that he is going to win the title since it’s his first Big Deal match since returning from injury, but Cassidy with the International Title is great for the title and is helping with the move of Cassidy’s character to a more serious wrestler, so I think it needs to continue with Cassidy getting revenge for losing the title to Mox way back when.
AEW World Tag Team Championships: Ricky Starks and Big Bill (Champions) vs La Facción Ingobernable vs. FTR vs. Kings of the Black Throne
Mike Johnson: This is now a ladder match, so expect a lot of crazy spots. I feel like the time is right for Malakai and Brody to win the belts.
Cory Strode: Starks and Big Bill are OK champions, but the money is in Starks as a solo act, so I look for a title change. While it would be a crowd pleaser for FTR to get the belts back, it’s time for Kings of the Black Throne to have a run with the Tag Team title to assert some dominance. And while I do see the value of La Faccion getting the title with their return, the House of Black needs to be booked as an unstoppable force for the gimmick to work.
AEW Women's Championship: Hikaru Shida (Champion) vs "Timeless" Toni Storm
Mike Johnson: Shida is great but Storm is the hottest thing currently in the women's division. Sometimes, the obvious call is the right one. New Champ.
Cory Strode: I am a fan of Shida. I think her work is fantastic, I think she can make anyone look better in the ring, and think she is a great choice as World Champion. That being said, Toni Storm needs to win this match. He character is amazing, the presentation works, and everything she is doing just works. They need to strike while the iron is hot and make her the focal point of the division. It also help that she is a fantastic worker, but this character is gold and a title will bring it to the next level. Shida has also been good in the feud by being utterly confused by Storm, so she can lose without looking bad.
AEW TBS Championship: Kris Statlander (Champion) vs Julia Hart vs Skye Blue
Mike Johnson: This should be solid with a lot of hard work. Julia Hart should win the belt here.
Cory Strode: I don’t like saying it, but Statlander’s title reign has been a dud. Her matches have just been matches, she doesn’t have a real feud to drive a story. Think about how the story going into the match is about Julia Hart and Skye Blue with Statlander on the outside looking in. While they have given Blue a monster push, The House Of Black needs to be a powerhouse, so Julia Hart should win this belt to cement them as the major heels on Saturday nights.
Texas Death Match: "Hangman" Adam Page vs Swerve Strickland
Mike Johnson: I expect this to be the best thing on the show. Page has to win to get revenge. If a babyface can't avenge his kid being menaced, he should hang his head in shame.
Cory Strode: In a normal wrestling story, Swerve broke into Page’s house, so Page has to win. However, Page has gotten the upper hand the last two weeks, and after yet another strange, nonsense promo, my gut is telling me that Swerve wins this one. Page has shown that once again, when given the ball, he fumbles when it comes to his promos, and needs to go back to being story line driven and carefully scripted as he was with the Elite work he did in AEW’s early days.
Sting, Darby Allin and Adam Copeland vs Christian Cage, Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne
Mike Johnson: This should be fun. Cage has been a hell of a heel lately and I expect his minions to take all the punishment. I hope we get Copeland past him so we can see what he has for his AEW run beyond running back old rivalries. Sting is the man and I expect he pins Wayne with the Scorpion Death Drop.
Cory Strode: Sting is not going to lose. Cage loses nothing when he loses matches because he simply ignores his losses. Everyone gets a feel good moment and Sting gets another big win.
Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho vs Young Bucks
Mike Johnson: We know they are going to go all out. No way the Bucks lose in Cali.
Cory Strode: The Bucks have turned heel, they have been dominant in their TV matches, and Omega and Jericho’s feud with the Don Callis Family still has legs. Omega and Jericho win to get the Buck’s title shot, and the Bucks exact revenge over the next few weeks leading to World’s End. And, as I always say on Audio: Heel Bucks are the only Good Bucks.
Zero Hour – ROH Tag Team Championships: MJF and Samoa Joe (Champion) vs The Gunns
Mike Johnson: We found out late last night it will be Samoa Joe. My guess is they retain and then Joe chokes out MJF.
Cory Strode: EVERY time MJF has a tag team title defense, I say he will lose and every time he wins, so I am going for a streak. MJF will team with Samoa Joe in the end, Joe gets the title shot at World’s End and they retain the tag team title. Of course, me saying he will win means the Gunns will get the titles.
