11/4/23 Results from New Japan's Power Struggle: Super Jr. Tag League 2023 from Osaka, Japan:
1 - Oskar Leube and Yuto Nakashima vs. Jeff Cobb and Callum Newman
Cobb pins Oskar with a Tour of the Islands.
2 - Junior Special 4 way Match: El Desperado and Master Wato vs. Clark Conners and Drilla Moloney vs. YOH and MUSASHI vs. Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita
This will be a tornado style match. Lots of action with all eight men everywhere.
Desperado pins Fujita with El Esculero.
3 - Tama Tonga, KUSHIDA and Kevin Knight vs. Shingo Takagi, BUSHI and Titan
Tama pins BUSHI after a Gun Stun.
Tama has words with Shingo after the match, as he wants a rematch for the NEVER Openweight Championship. Shingo does not respond yet.
4 - SANADA and Yuya Uemura vs. Tetsuya Naito and Yota Tsuji
Tsuji hits a spear (now called Gene Blaster) on Uemura and gets the pin.
5 - Tanga Loa vs. David Finlay
Finlay hits Tanga with his shillelagh. He follows with Into Oblivion.
Finlay pins Tanga.
6 - Great O-Khan vs. Jon Moxley
Commentators mention O-Khan looking for a title shot at MJF for the AEW Championship if he beats Moxley.
The match goes immediately to the floor. They brawl on the floor and into the crowd. Both get counted out, with only 5 minutes in. Crowd boos loudly, thinking they got cheated. Moxley takes the mic and says he did not come to Japan and not get a piece of O-Khan. He demands a Falls Count Anywhere Match in Osaka. O-Khan grabs a guardrail and attacks Moxley. Bell rings again. Crowd cheers. They brawl back into the crowd, who scatter away. Moxley bleeds immediately. They brawl around through the crowd onto the ramp way. Moxley launches O-Khan into the chairs.
Moxley pulls out a scissors and cuts O-Khan’s hair braid. O-Khan goes nuts and they exchange blows. O-Khan hits a Tenzan Tombstone Driver on the floor. Moxley kicks out.
They fight to the upper levels. Moxley low blows O-Khan and kicks him down the stairs. O-Khan bites Moxley in the groin. Moxley hits Death Rider then locks in the Bulldog Choke.
O-Khan taps out.
7 - NEVER Openweight 6-man Tag Team Championship: Tomohiro Ishii, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada vs. Shane Haste, Mikey Nicholls and Zack Sabre Jr.
Tanahashi misses a High Fly Flow. Haste and Nicholls go for a Tank Buster on Tanahashi, but Okada makes the save. Haste and Nicholls hit a Tank Buster on Okada, then another on Ishii. They hit Highway to Hell on Tanahashi. ZSJ with a Punt Kick on Tanahashi but Tanahashi kicks out. ZSJ picks up Tanahashi for a Zack Driver but gets rolled into a small package.
Tanahashi pins ZSJ.
Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tomohiro Ishii and Kazuchika Okada retain the NEVER Openweight 6-man Championship.
Tanahashi wants a shot at Zack’s New Japan World Television Title.
The lights go out and they play a Bryan Danielson video. Danielson challenges Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 18. Okada gets the mic and tells Danielson that he has broken his face and arm but he has never beaten him. Okada is looking for revenge. Okada says he will beat Bryan with the Rainmaker, “Yes”.
8 - Super Jr. Tag League 2023 Finals: TJP and Francesco Akira vs. SHO and Yoshinobu Kanemaru
EVIL, Yujiro and Togo attack Catch 22 on their way to the ring. Kanemaru attacks the neck of TJP with a pair of DDTs on the floor. A bunch of shenanigans. TJP takes a swig from Kanemaru’s whiskey bottle and sprays Kanemaru in the face. Akira dropkicks SHO out of the ring. TJP hits a tornado DDT on Kanemaru. Akira hits Speedfire on Kanemaru. Catch 22 hits 2X2 on Kanemaru.
TJP pins Kanemaru.
Catch 22 wins the Super Jr. Tag League 2023. They pose in the ring with their new trophies. They will face War Dogs for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship at Wrestle Kingdom.
War Dogs sneak attack Catch 22 and cut a promo on the number one contenders. Cobb and Newman come to save their teammates.
9 - IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship: Hiromu Takahashi vs. Taiji Ishimori
Both men start off quickly. Ishimori hit a single arm DDT on the floor and goes after Hiromu’s left arm. Lots of good wrestling. Ishimori gets the Bone Lock. Hiromu reverses into Time Bomb. Two count. Ishimori goes for the Bone Lock again. Hiromu gets to the ropes.
Hiromu goes for the Hiromu Roll. Ishimori kicks out. Hiromu goes for the Hiromu Roll again with a bridge.
Hiromu pins Ishimori.
Hiromu Takahashi retains the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship.
Hiromu takes the mic and he wants to name his next contender. He picks El Desperado, who is on Japanese commentary. Desperado accepts but he will have surgery but will be back in time for Wrestle Kingdom.
10 - IWGP US/UK Heavyweight Championship: Shota Umino vs. Will Ospreay
Good match. Both were about even until Ospreay bloodied Umino with a kick to the nose. Umino hit a stiff elbow to the face. He DDTed Ospreay on the ring apron. Umino hit a shotgun dropkick sending Ospreay over the barrier into the announcer area. Ospreay is thrown into the crowd. Umino sets up tables on the outside. Ospreay blocks a Death Rider on the tables. They exchange a ton of reversals. Ospreay goes for an Oscutter but eats a dropkick. Umino with a cutter and an exploder suplex. Umino hits an Oscutter. Two count.
Ospreay hits a twisting senton. Two count. Ospreay hits a Tiger Driver through two tables on the floor. Ospreay hits an Oscutter. Two count. Umino ducks a Hidden Blade. But Ospreay connects with a second one. Two count. They trade elbows. Ospreay hits two hook kicks. Ospreay hits two stiff elbows to tue back of Umino’s head. Ospreay traps his arms arms and sits on his chest. Umino spits in his face. Ospreay drops elbows into Umino’s chin.
Moxley runs to the ring to cheer on Umino. Umino gets out and hits a lariat. Umino locks on an STF. Ospreay gets the ropes. The hit reversals. Umino hits two big DDTs. Umino hits a swinging Death Rider. Two count.
Umino hits a Death Rider from Above. Ospreay kicks out. Umino sits on Ospreay’s chest and drops elbows. Umino hits the Blaze Blade and a Death Rider. Ospreay quickly connects with a Hidden Blade. Both men are exhausted and neither make a cover.
They trade headbutts. Ospreay goes for Storm Breaker. Umino reverses out and Ospreay hits a Hidden Blade. Umino kicks out at one. Ospreay hits a Death Rider, holds on and hits Storm Driver. Two count. Ospreay with another Hidden Blade and a Storm Breaker.
Ospreay pins Umino.
Will Ospreay retains the IWGP UK/U.S. Heavyweight Championship.
The match went almost 40 minutes. Ospreay is giving all these young wrestlers the matches of their lives and teaching them how to steal the show.
Umino, in tears, bows on his knees to Ospreay. Ospreay bows on his knees to Umino. They both know they did something special tonight.
Moxley gets in the ring and goes face to face with Ospreay. David Finlay hits the ring and knocks both of them out with his shillelagh. He mocks both Ospreay and Moxley. Finlay destroys both belts with giant hammer. Moxley and Ospreay look at the pieces of the broken belts that they were fighting so hard for.
Ospreay, in the interview area, he challenges Moxley and Finlay. He asks New Japan to craft a new belt, perhaps the Intercontinental Belt, for him to carry around the world. He will start 2024 by beating two men and proving he is unbeatable.
World Tag League will be coming later in November. Teams should be announced very soon.
Wrestle Kingdom 18 will continue to take shape.
