Friend: Adam, what is this Daikaiju thing in Worcester in November?

Adam: Truly, I dunno. I think Drew Cordeiro is being weird again? Maybe?

As it turns out, Drew wasn’t being weird again. Well, not entirely. In this case, DC is opening up the White Eagle in Worcester to facilitate and host a debuting new wrestling promotion run by another human entirely. From their website (daikaijupro.com):

Monsters have been appearing in various parts of the world. Some are evil, with a desire to wipe out humanity while others want to coexist. Not all of humanity is on the same side either. Some have turned to experimental and taboo science experiments to destroy all monsters. Others see how similar monster and mankind really are and seek peace.

One thing is for sure, the only way to solve this calamity is to pit the opposing sides against each other! And sell tickets to it! It is a time of great peril. 

With a total favor vote, the United Nations approved the 'Daikaiju Project' and thus Daikaiju Pro was born. Additionally a new council, The Department of Kaiju Affairs, headed by Oliver Butterscotch, was created to assist in overseeing the new league. Not just a combat league, but a global government network made up of every nation on Earth, bringing the best of both good and evil to the squared circle to fight for supremacy, prestige, honor, power, bragging rights, and money!

With that description, I am definitely getting some Chikara and Kaiju Big Battel vibes here, both being promotions that I’ve covered for this PWInsider in the past. For more information, I went right to the “Head of the Department of Kaiju Affairs”, Oliver Butterscotch. I swear, I am not making this up. Wrestling is f***in’ great, y’all. <3

Of Daikaiju, Mr. Butterscotch said “Daikaiju Pro is the brainchild of a lifelong wrestling fan, the only thing I've loved longer than wrestling is Godzilla. Inspired by promotions like Chikara and Kaiju Big Battel from years back, I was obsessed with those two in particular as a teenage kaiju. Now that I've mutated into an adult I've made relationships with several international promotions in recent years and had the ability to start a promotion. Not only will Daikaiju Pro be somewhat lighthearted in tone where there's shoot monsters and possibly storylines involving time travel, but offer unique match ups and exhibitions from international wrestlers - specifically the ones from promotions I've developed relationships and networked with over the recent years. Additionally, Daikaiju serves as an opportunity for local favorites to get international exposure, and an opportunity for fresh internationals to get American exposure. The Thailand scene in particular has long planted seeds and has been curating and developing and building to where they are now bearing fruit for the wrestling community to take notice. Daikaiju Pro wants to serve that fruit, presented on a thick slice of monster movie cheese.”

On their debut show happening in Worcester: “Wrestling Open has been building a really impressive turn out for the over 90 shows they've done every Thursday (forever) and I think the White Eagle is becoming a special place for wrestling. Then you have events like Wrestival, and the Beyond Institute of Pro Wrestling setting up there, Daikaiju Pro hopes to contribute to the reputation of the venue by hosting an event with wrestlers from around the world: Italy, Japan, Thailand and India.”

Daikaiju Pro’s first show, “Volume 1: The Kappas Walk Among Us” has an absolutely bonkers card:

• Shoko Nakajima vs VENY
• Shivam vs Big Bacon Brad Hollister
• TJ Crawford vs Massimo Pesca
• Ichiban vs Mortar
• Mane Event vs Kappa Kozo & Kappa Jr (w/ Ultramantis Black)
• Landon Hale vs Monomoth
• Nolo Kitano vs Bobby Orlando
• O’Shay Edwards vs Krule
• Rex Lawless vs Kappa Jungle
• Teddy Goodz vs Kappa Samurai

 Just this card alone is a great mix of old Chikara vibes, some good Wrestling Open matchups, some very intriguing Worcester vs the World matchups, a full-on clash of southern human kaijus, and a VERY interesting Joshi match. Butterscotch also specifically directed me to check out Thailand’s SETUP promotion, if I wanted to see additional matches featuring debuting international talent like Monolith, Shivam, and presumably ALL THESE KAPPAS THAT WALK AMONG US. - https://www.youtube.com/c/SETUPTHAILANDPROWRESTLING

As a note, one match I did not list above (but is on the poster) was the tag clash between Emi Sakura/Baliyan Akki and the Batiri. Travel issues kept Emi & Akki from being at Wrestling Open this past Thursday but also it appears that some contractual stuff happened and, at least Emi is off the show. Unsure what this means for Akki or the Batiri right now but it’s possible we may get some surprise contests or card shifts at the last minute.
 

Daikaiju Pro’s debut “Volume 1: The Kappas Walk Among Us” will be this Saturday November 4th at 7pm. If you can’t make it to Worcester, it’s on the IWTV streaming schedule as well….but really, this has the feel that it could be something weird, wild, and VERY special….so maybe drop whatever stupid adult-adjacent “plans” you have for Saturday and come to this instead. I suspect it will be better than whatever you got.
