10/30 NJPW SUPER JR. TAG LEAGUE RESULTS FROM NIIGATA, JAPAN

By James Kurokawa on 2023-10-30 19:00:00

10/30/23 Results from New Japan's Super Jr. Tag League 2023 from Niigata, Japan:

Quick note:   Shingo Takagi won the NEVER Openweight Championship from Tama Tonga at Fighting Spirit Unleashed in Las Vegas this past Saturday.  Shingo has not been in the NEVER title picture for most of the year.  With two months till Wrestle Kingdom, I would expect a multi-man match with Shingo Takagi, Tama Tonga, David Finlay and perhaps another in the mix for a 4-way match.   Wrestle Kingdom 18 is just a one-night event this year (January 4, 2024), so I would expect a 5-6 hour show with an event card to be loaded with several multi-man or multi-team matches.

1 - Tomoaki Honma, Togi Makabe and Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Boltin Oleg, Oskar Leube and Yuto Nakashima

Makabe pins Oskar after a King Kong Knee Drop.

2 - Ren Narita and Shota Umino vs. Callum Newman and Great O-Khan

Umino pins Newman with his version of the Hidden Blade.

3 -  Toru Yano, YOSHI-HASHI and Tomohiro Ishii vs. Dick Togo, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL

Ishii hits Togo with a lariat and Yano rolls up Togo for the pin.

Super Jr. Tag League 2023 Matches:

4 - The DKC and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru and SHO

The rest of House of Torture jumps in the ring after a referee bump.

Kanemaru hits a Suntori Surprise in DKC's face.   SHO hits Shock Arrow.

SHO pins DKC.

House of Torture earns 2 points, with 8 points total.

DKC and Taguchi remain at 4 points.

5 - TAKA Michinoku and DOUKI vs. Drilla Moloney and Clark Conners

Both teams fight into the crowd before the bell.  War Dogs hit Full Clip on TAKA.

Conners pins TAKA

War Dogs earn 2 points, with 8 points total.

Just 5 Guys remain at 2 points.

6 -  MUSASHI and YOH vs. Kosei Fujita and Robbie Eagles

Good match.  Eagles forces MUSASHI to tap out to the Ron Miller Special.

TMDK earn 2 points, and get to 6 points total.

MUSASHI and YOH remain at 4 points.

7 -  Titan and BUSHI vs. Francesco Akira and TJP

Tetsuya Naito accompanies his teammates to ringside.   Even without a match, Naito's presence is important to push Wrestle Kingdom ticket sales.

Akira has his left shoulder taped up.   Catch 22 is taking a beating in this tournament.

Good match.  Catch 22 went for their Final Cut Finisher, but BUSHI sprayed mist in Akira's eyes.   Titan hits Titanica on TJP and gets the pin.

Titan and BUSHI earn 2 points, with 6 points total.

Catch 22 remain at 6 points.

The crowd chants for Naito to come in the ring and they pose for the Los Ingobernales de Japon fist bump.

8 - Kevin Knight and KUSHIDA vs. Master Wato and El Desperado

After their hard-fought win the other night, Wato and Desperado are still acting like they are not on the same page.  Wato is trying to get Desperado to wear his shirt and Desperado keeps pushing him away.

KUSHIDA and Knight worked over Wato's left arm.  KUSHIDA traps Wato in the Hoverboard Lock.  Desperado makes the save and applies a Stretch Muffler on KUSHIDA.   Knight takes out Desperado.   KUSHIDA goes for the Hoverboard Lock again.  Wato reverses into a deadlift German with a bridge.  Knight splashes Wato to break up the pin.  Knight with Frankensteiner on Desperado off the top rope and a tope con hilo to Wato on the floor.  Desperado blocks a Spike DDT, but Knight hits a Skyhigh for a two count.  Knight and Desperado trade slaps and elbows.  Desperado hits a spine buster and applies a Stretch Muffler.  Knight gets to the ropes.  They trade nearfalls.   Knight avoids Pinche Loco but misses a Pele Kick.   Desperado applies the Stretch Muffler.  Knight reverses into a Destroyer.  Knight is about to hit a Spike DDT, but Wato hits a release German.   Wato with a tope con hilo on KUSHIDA.   Desperado hits Pinche Loco on Knight.  He goes for another, but Knight reverses into a pin attempt.  Desperado reverses out and hits a second Pinche Loco.

Desperado pins Knight.

Desperado and Wato earn 2 points and take the lead with 10 points.

Jettsetters remain at 6 points.

Fun match.

Desperado addresses the crowd and Wato after the match.  He put over Wato as the future of the Jr. Division, then he leaves the ring.   The crowd applauds both men.  Wato addresses the crowd.
