Hi chaps - I was front row for the Impact Turning Point PPV taping in Newcastle, England on Friday 27th October. Therefore please see spoilers below.
It was an enjoyable show carried by WIll Ospreay vs Eddie Edwards main event. It felt more like a tv taping with no storylines than a PPV - also it was unclear if some of the matches were dark matches or not, so we'll see what makes air. Shame no video packages to break up the action for the live crowd. One thing though clear from the show is Will Ospreay is a star & has a big decision on where he goes next come February:
1) Grado & Rhino vs 2 unknown wrestlers. Didn't catch the name of the other competitors so assume this a dark match. Grado massively over with Rhino his 'surprise' tag partner. Rhino won with the gore of course - fun opener with the crowd happy to see Grado & Rhino live.
2) Leon Slater vs Mark Haskins. After seeing Leon live both at Rev Pro 11th anniversary show & also New Japan Royal Quest 3 recently, great to see the announcement of his Impact contract. Leon Slater won the match & had a decent following from the Newcastle crowd.
3) Eric Young & Josh Alexander vs Flash Morgan Webster & Mark Andrews. Apart from the main event this was probably my favourite match of the night - crowd really split on who to cheer, although Eric Young was most over & seemed genuinely appreciative of the support in Newcastle. Very enjoyable tag match with Young & Alexander going over.
4) Gisele Shaw vs Alex Windsor. Again a pretty split crowd with Shaw more well known to Impact fans, although Windsor clearly had local support. Match was fine for what it was, with Gisele getting the W.
5) Rich Swann vs Trey Miguel - singles match instead of triple threat as Frankie was put in another match. Crowd were a bit flat at the start of this match, but did eventually get into it - be interesting if the crowd seems quiet on PPV as it seemed live. Both competitors had their fans with Trey very vocal during the match - Rich Swann got the victory.
6) Jordynne Grace vs Dani Luna. First time seeing Grace live & what an athlete - certainly was over with the crowd. I've seen Luna live myself before, but not sure how much of the crowd knew her. Grace got the win which went down well with the crowd - Grace certainly came across as a star.
7) Joe Hendry vs Simon Miller. I haven't watched much Impact myself recently so wasn't personally familiar with Hendry - however Hendry was massively over with this crowd, with Miller playing the heel & doing a solid job. To the crowd's pleasure Joe Hendry won a basic but fun match.
8) Moose & Brian Myers vs Chris Sabin & Frankie Kazarian. Kazarian replaced the injured Shelley in this tag match. Solid match with all 4 known to the audience with Moose & Myers getting the victory to the disappointment of the crowd.
9) Trinity vs Deonna Purrazzo with Gail Kim as special guest referee. Trinity with a Union jack outfit including the colours in her hair too! Good crowd heat & felt more like a PPV match than some of the others matches had felt. Both worked hard with Trinity winning by tapout. Gail Kim & Deonna had a confrontation post match.
10) Will Ospreay vs Eddie Edwards. Ospreay was treated like a star as you'd expect & was the most over wrestler of the night. Fun match & great crowd heat. Not sure how Eddie took to chants of 'you're just a fat Shawn Spears' - poor Eddie! Ospreay won as you'd expect to a great ovation. Post match he thanked the fans & the importance of TNA to his own career being inspired by AJ Style. He teased an update on himself - his kitchen is now finished!
Be interesting how the show comes across on PPV - last 2 matches should come across well - likewise Hendry, Alex Young/Alexander & Grado/Rhino matches had fun reactions depending on what makes the PPV. However quite a few of the other matches felt like house show/tv matches at best.
