ORTIZ VS. SANTANA, TAKESHITA VS. FLETCHER AND MORE: AEW RAMPAGE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2023-10-27 23:36:00

It is Friday and this week, AEW Rampage was recorded after AEW Dynamite at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA.. Our commentary team is Tony Schiavone, Ian Riccaboni, and Excalibur.

Ortiz vs Mike Santana - Street Fight

They are doing this on Rampage?  Weird. You’d think they would at least have it on Dynamite.

They stare each other down and it spills to the floor almost immediately. Ortiz pulls a trash can from under the ring and goes after Santana. Ortiz then piles up chairs and grabs a Kendo stick, he uses it on Santana’s knee. Ortiz pulls out a table and Santana is able to start throwing hands. They move to the apron and Santana suplexes Ortiz into the ring. Ortiz rolls to the floor and Santana hits a moonsault on him from the apron.

Santana pulls out a table and sets it up against the barricade. Ortiz is able to recover after they brawl and he power bombs Santana onto the table and rolls him into the ring for two. They move to fighting on the apron, and this time, Santana suplexes Ortiz on the pile of chairs as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, they are face to face in the middle of the ring on their knees, throwing hands. They work to their feet and each give each other a German suplex. They nail each other at the same time and are both down. As they recover they go corner to corner, into the ropes and Santana gets a stunner for two. Ortiz gets a power slam and then a brain buster, both for two counts.

They go back to throwing hands. Santana is put on the top and tries to set for a Tower of London, but Santana escapes. Ortiz gets a quick rollup for two and then Santana takes Ortiz down with a clothesline. Ortiz goes to the corner to try to stand up and Santana hits him with a cannonball, and then hoists him for a Power bomb from the Fireman’s carry for the pin and the win.

Winner: Mike Santana

Really good brawl, and Santana has words for Ortiz. He calls for a fist bump and Ortiz shakes his head.

As Santana leaves, Sonjay Dutt gets in the ring to talk to Ortiz and they leave together, but Ortiz is not letting Sonjay put an arm around him as they go.

We then have a video about  the match between Kenny Omega and MJF Saturday night. Excellent video package that builds the match up well.

We then have a video of Jay White running into Kenny Omega wishing him luck, even though he’s a broken, brittle man.

We then have Don Callis running into MJF to say he can help him. MJF sarcastically says that with Don’s help he might even become World Champion. He then tells Don no in a typical MJF way.

Kip Sabian comes to the ring with a mic and Penelope Ford. He says that some great sports idols came out of Philly. He puts over Rocky Balboa, and talks about the Phillies and even though they lost Tuesday, they will come back and win the Super Bowl.

He says he has a Hot Take and says to put all of their money on James Harden.

It’s time for the Returning Mark Briscoe to come to the ring

Kip says Mark is a true rags to rags story. Mark replies by taking out Sabian and celebrates with the crowd.

In the back, Renee Paquette is with Anna Jay, as well as Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, Doniel Garcia and Jake Hager (this group REALLY needs a name). Anna says that she feels good about the match to get a AEW Women’s title shot and she needs the team to be there for her.

Don Callis shows and says he needs a tag team. Menard and Parker says they know a tag team. Callus says if they take out Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho and “Me Familia, Su Familia” and Daniel Garcia says they shouldn’t listen to that bald headed parasite. Anna tells them enough because her match is next.

As they leave, Ruby Soho says she found Parker’s comb and gives it to him.

Willow Nightingale vs Anna Jay vs The Returning Abadon vs Skye Blue - Winner gets a shot at the AEW Women’s title

Anna leaves the ring, Willow and Skye go after Abadon and Abadon knocks them into each other. Anna gets back in the ring, but Abadon drops her. Willow hoists Abadon and Anna goes for a kick on Abadon, but Abadon escapes, and Willow catches the kick, slowly putting Skye’s foot down. Abadon uses it as an excuse for a double chop block and then gets a double lung blower.

Timeless Toni Storm has arrived to “direct” the match from the stage as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Skye and Abadon are in the ring facing off. They shake hands and then throw hands. On stage, Toni and Luthor hold up a sign that reads “FIGHT”  Willow hits a drop kick from the top on both and then charges into them in opposite corners. Anna cuts her off and after Anna can’t whip her to the ropes, Willow comes off the ropes with the pounce. Skye tries to steal the pin, and Abadon breaks it up.

Anbadon gets a knee strike on Skye, Anna gets a face buster on Skye, Willow gets a spine buster on Anna and Skye breaks it up. Skye and Willow have words and they go at it with Skye tossing Willow into the ring post from inside the ring. Skye and Anna go after Abadon, Abadonm fights her way free, and while Anna gets the Queenslayer on Abadon, Skye breaks it up with a kick. Willow sweeps out Skye’s legs and pulls her out of the ring.  Abadon gets a modified face buster on Anna for the pin and the win.

Winner and facing Hikaru Shida for the AEW women’s title: Abadon

In the back, we have The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn telling us next week will be their 69th day as champion. Max Caster says he is inviting MJF to sit front row and Anthony Bowens says they aren’t inviting him, and we get a WHOLE LOT OF 69 JOKES.

Nice.

We then get video of a press conference for the match between Orange Cassidy and Cluadio Castagnoli as a tease to it being shown on Collision.  I am a bit sad that I wasn't invited to the press conference.

The MAIN Event: Kyle Fletcher vs Konosuke Takeshita

Don Callis joins commentary.

They lock up and Takeshita forces them to the ropes where Takeshita breaks with a slap. Fletcher shoots him off into the ropes and Takeshita hits a shoulder tackle. When they run the ropes, Fletcher tries for an arm drag, but Takeshita is able to block it. Fletcher gets a blue thunder bomb, and they trade two counts. They get to their feet and miss with kicks until Takeshita gouges the eyes of Fletcher.

Takeshita follows with a charge and Fletcher hits a slam on Takeshita. Takeshita rolls to the floor to regroup and Fletcher is able to toss Takeshita over the barricade. Takeshita is then rolled into the ring and Fletcher goes to the top. He misses a leap, and Takeshita gets a blue thunder bomb for a two count as we move to picture in picture.

When they return to full screen, both men are down. Takeshita gets up in the corner and Fletcher charges into his elbow strike. Takeshita then grabs Fletcher with his legs and slams him into the turnbuckle and follows with a knee strike to the back. Takeshita goes to the top and Fletcher nails him with a kick to knock Takeshita to the floor. Fletcher hits a dive into Takeshita on the floor and then rolls Takeshita into the ring.

Fletcher goes to the top and nails a frog splash for two. Fletch tries for a body slam, but Takeshita blocks in and they move to throwing hands. Fletcher ends it with a half and half suplex, but Takeshita is able to take Fletcher down with a poisonrana followed by a clothesline. Fletcher hits a sheer drop brainbuster for two. Both men are down.

Fletcher is the first up and goes to the top, bringing Takeshita, and Takeshita nails Fletcher with an elbow strike. Takeshita hits a package piledriver from the second turnbuckle for two. Fletcher avoids attacks from Takeshita, and Takeshita gets a tejaris into a rollup for two. Fletcher nails a superkick and Takeshita gets a knee strike, followed by a running knee strike for the pin and the win.

Winner: Takeshita

Don Callis and Powerhouse Hobbs come to the ring and as they are in the ring, Fletcher nails Takeshita with a chair. Hobbs ignores the chair to the back and Hobbs runs him into the ropes. Callis calls off Hobbs and says “That’s what we want! You earned it! We wanted the hate!”
