AEW BATTLE OF THE BELTS VIII REPORT

Battle of the Belts VIII starts right after Collision. It’s live at the FedExForum in Memphis, TN.  Our commentary team is Tony Schiavone, Kevin Kelly, and Nigel McGuinness. 

Orange Cassidy (AEW International Champion) vs John Silver w/Alex Reynolds

Jon Moxley is still at ringside when Cassidy arrives and they have words since Cassidy beat Mox for the belt.

Silver puts his hands in Cassidy's pockets and Cassidy grabs Silver’s head for a head butt. Silver is able to toss Cassidy across the ring. Silver tosses him again and then gives the thumbs up to the camera. Cassidy is whipped to the corner, where he goes up and over and slams Silver’s head into the turnbuckle for a ten count. They go to the top, and Silver gets a stalling vertical suplex from the second turnbuckle. 

Silver gets a bunch of blows on the ap[ron and then lays in kicks on Cassidy on the apron. Cassidy goes to the top and Silver gets a one arm gorilla press and then drops Cassidy onto the apron and to the floor. Silver gets a suplex on Cassidy on the floor as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Silver is getting a series of kicks to Cassidy’s chest, but Cassidy is able to get his hands in his pockets. This leads to a tumble out of the way, and drop kick. Silver gets a blow in before Cassidy is able to get a scoop slam for two. Cassidy then starts with soft kicks to Silver’s chest, but they quickly become harder and harder. Silver grabs a small package after blocking the twisting DDT for two. 

Cassidy is able to reverse a slam into stundog millionaire and a beach break for two. Reynolds grabs the title belt. Cassidy takes off the elbow pad and calls for the Orange Punch but Reynolds distracts Cassidy, allowing Silver to knock him onto the second rope. Silver distracts the ref and Reynolds nails Cassidy with the belt. Silver gets rolled up for two. 

Silver gets an airplane spin slam for two. Silver goes for a running knee and Cassidy trips him, then nails him  with an Orange Punch for the pin and the win.

Lexi is with Andrade, and CJ shows up to offer her services. Andrade is confused by this, but then leaves.

In the ring, Tony Nese is with Mark Sterling, and he mocks the people of Memphis. He puts over Tony Nese as the future TV champion. Nese says It will be his mission to change everyone’s lives so they no longer look like Fat Elvis. He calls for people to do group training.

Joe cuts Tony off with his entrance.

Joe beats down Nese in the corner, but Nese gets a guillotine and a few blows before Joe steps out of the way of Nese’s moonsault. Joe then clotheslines Nese into tomorrow and wins with a muscle buster.

Winner and still ROH TV Champion: Samoa Joe 

Joe grabs the mic and says he has a gift of foresight for MJF, and that is that he is coming for MJF’s title. So MJF can give him what he wants, or he can force MJF to give him what he wants.

Kris Statlander (TBS Champion) vs Willow Nightingale

They lock up and move to wrist locks. Willow is able to take down Statlander and holds on to the waistlock. Statlnder gets to her feet and they break. They trade shoulder tackles and Willow knocks down Statlnder who gets right up. They run the ropes and Statlnder gets a shoulder block for one. 

Statlander is able to get a guillotine on the top rope, and then a slingshot elbow from the apron into the ring. Willow rolls out of the ring and then she leaps onto Willow. Willow whips Statlander into the ring post and then a cannonball into Statlander against the steel steps. She rolls Statlnder into the ring for two. Willow hits a series of headbutts on Statlander on the mat and we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, they are throwing elbows and Willow tosses Standers to the corner by her hair and then beats her down. She snap mares Statlnder to the middle of the ring and Statlander gets a charging running knee and a blue thunder bomb for two. Statlander goes for the Saturday Night Fever and Willow escapes and hits the pounce. And Monty Brown gets a name check from commentary.

Statlnder gets a DDT for two. Statlander goes to the top and Willow meets her there and hits a Death Valley Drive from the second turnbuckle for two. Willow then chokes Stalander and she tosses her to  the corner and hits a cannonball.  Willow goes to the top and Statlander grabs her for a power bomb, followed by a 450 splash for the pin and the win.

They are pushing the Willow is using darker methods as well as Skye Blue since they have both been sprayed with the black mist. Willow starts to shake Statlnder’s hand, but Skye Blue runs to the ring to stop her, but Willow shakes her hand anyway and leaves, with Skye left in the ring, glaring at Willow. 

In the back, Lexi is with Orange Cassidy he says that Mox got in his face and his friends got in his face, and if they want to fight, they can meet him and Okada in Philly on Wednesday.

OK, I’m happier than I was before that segment.

The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) w/Grizz, the Memphis Grizzly mascot and Billy Gunn vs Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, and Daniel Garcia w/Anna Jay and Jake Hager

We start with a scissoring, and we are reminded the NBA season begins on Tuesday.

Garcia starts with Caster, and they lock up and quickly go to waist locks and switches. Garcia gets a side headlock takeover. They break and Garcia motions to dance and Menard stops him. Bowens is tagged in and Garcia sets to dance again and Anna rolls into the ring to stop him. 

She came into the ring so she is OUTTA HERE!

Menard attacks Bowens from behind, but Bowens recovers quickly and hits a series of blows. Parker gets the same treatment. Gunn tags in and he gets a quick two count. Caster is tagged in with an axe handle from the top. Garcia tags in and then gets Caster in their corner as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Garcia works over Bowens, who has been the babyface in peril. Gunn calls for Garcia to dance, but he doesn’t. Bowens is able to escape and tag in Gunn, who runs wild. Menard takes the Scissor Me Timbers. We get another scissoring, and that sets off the tag team siren and everyone is browling. Garcia sets to dance and Caster rolls him up for two. Garcia lays into Caster with chops, a lariat and a back elbow ending with a German suplex and a clothesline. 

The fans call for the dance and he does it, allowing Caster to recover from a power bomb. Gunn hits the Famasser, Bowens tags in and the Acclaimed hit a double team slam for the p[in and the win.

Garcia is left behind as Menard and Parker go to the back.
