It is Friday and this week, AEW Rampage was recorded after AEW Dynamite at the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, MO. Our commentary team is Paul Wight, Tony Schiavone, and Excalibur.
The Hardys (Matt and Jeff Hardy and Brother Zay) vs Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, and Daniel Garcia
Zay and Garcia start off and go to waistlocks and wrist locks. They lock up against, collar and elbow and go to waistlocks. Garcia takes Zay down and then spins on top of him, gets up and acts like he’s kicking dirt on him. He sets up to dance, and Jake Hager and Menard tell him not to. Zay grabs a rear headlock and follows with a pair of arm drags.
Matt is tagged in and he leaps off the top rope with an axe handle. Zay whips Garcia into Matt, who has hit feet up and then Zay hits a neckbreaker. Jeff tags in and hits a diving splash for two. Zay tags in and works over Garcia in the corner. Garcia is able to slip out and pulls Zay’s leg off the ropes. He then hits a back elbow and drags Zay to his corner where they work over Zay with quick tags.
Zay is able to escape and tag in Matt, who runs wild. Matt hits a power bomb out of the corner for two. At that point, Garcia is able to take over and he sets up to dance, and Menard stops him. This sets off the tag team siren and all six men are in the ring. The Hardy drive their opponents front he ring as we go picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Matt has been the babyface in peril and both he and Menard are down and crawling to their corners. Jeff tags in and works over Parker, who also tagged in. Menard breaks up a pin, and Zay comes into the ring to take him out as Jeff and Parker regroup. It’s then time for everyone to get a finisher on the last person to get a finisher.
Matt gets a twist of fate on Parker, and then Jeff tags in, but Hager knocks him off the top; Zay gets a poetry of motion over the top rope and when he gets in the ring, Garcia hits him with a clothesline and is finally able to do the dance. He then hits a DDT on Zay for the pin and the win.
Winners: Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, and Daniel Garcia
The announcers push that Menard and Garcia are having issues and the team needs a leader.
Renee Paquette is with Penta about Rey Fenix, and Bullet Club Gold show up and Jay White mocks him for not having belts any longer. Penta calls White a thief, and Jay says Penta will get a chance to face him next week.
Jay Lethal w/the entire Jarrett Bunch vs Trent Beretta w/Chuck Taylor
Lethal attacks Beretta when he is checking to make sure the Jarrett bunch aren’t getting in the ring and then Lethal stomps him down in the corner. Lethal then looks into the camera and tells Eddie Kingston to watch this because he is going to be the next world’s champion. Beretta responds with chops and they run the ropes with Beretta getting a meteora in the middle of the ring. Lethal is able to pull Beretta into the turnbuckle and then hits a scoop and slam.
Beretta fights to keep the figure four from being put on. Beretta is able to score a hurricanrana and a cover for two. Jarrett gets on the apron and the ref makes him get down. They run the ropes and Beretta misses a cross body and goes through the ropes to the floor. Chuck grabs a chair to keep everyone away from Trent. Beretta and Lethal fight on the floor. Lethal rolls in and out of the ring and Sonjay Dutt grabs Beretta. Beretta nails Sonjay and Lethal takes the opportunity to pick up Beretta and drive him, swimsuit area first, into the ring post.
OUCH!
Excalibur says it was the knee, but…not the knee.
We go to picture in picture. When we return to full screen, Lethal has been working over Beretta’s knee. Lethal hits a knee breaker and a dragon screw. Jarrett and Sonjay get on the apron and they strut with Lethal doing so in the ring. This allows Beretta to get to his feet, and he and Lethal throw hands in the middle of the ring. Beretta hits a leaping knee to knock Lethal out of the ring and follows with a leap onto Lethal. Lethal is rolled back in the ring and Beretta goes for a backslide for two.
Beretta hits a German suplex, holding on for a second, and Lethal picks the leg to stop the second, Beretta shoots him off and Lethal tries for the Lethal Injection, only to be stopped by Beretta, who hits a half-and-half suplex for two.
Lethal is able to grab a figure four and Beretta scoops near the ropes, and Lethal drags his back to the middle of the ring and hits a kick. Lethal goes to the top and leaps, but Beretta gets the leg up, Lethal grabs it for the figure four and Beretta instead tries for a small package for two. Beretta gets a rolling elbow. Lethal tries for a standing suplex, but Beretta lands on his feet. Lethal hits a kick to the back of Beretta’s knee. Lethal then hits the Lethal Injection for the pin and the win.
Winner: Jay Lethal
We then get a sit down between Santana and Ortiz and they argue about their differences and they will handle it in the ring.
Emi Sakura vs Skye Blue
Skye is not her normal bubbly self and the commentary team says it is because of the black mist Julia Hart hit her with.
Emi dodges a lock up and Skye tries for a rollup and Emi holds the rope to block it. They trade chops and Skye instead hits a head scissors takedown. Emi dumps Skye to the floor and then dives into Skye against the steel steps. Skye is rolled into the ring and Emi gets a two count. Emi gets a surfboard hold and Emi’s shoulders are on the mat so Emi has to break the hold.
Emi lays in chops in the corners. Emi charges into a back elbow from Skye in the corner and then hits a high knee and a DDT for two. Skye locks in a full nelson and Emi escapes and bites Blue’s hand. Emi gets a stalling double underhook backbreaker for two. Skye gets out of a dragon sleeper and nails a kick followed by Code Blue for the pin and the win.
Winner: Skye Blue
It’s time for the main event!
Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta vs The Gates of Agony (Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun) W/Prince Nana
Yuta and Kaun start the match, locking up collar and elbow and Yuta is able to force Kaun down by switching to an arm back and moving to a hemmer lock. Kaun turns it to a side headlock and Yuta escapes with a head scissors. Kaun is able to escape and grab the rope for the break. Yuta grabs an arm bar and Kaun forces them to the corner for a break.
Yuta gets a scoop and a slam and then hits a senton for one. Claudio is tagged in and they get a pair of big boots before Yuta leaves the ring. Kaun grabs the ropes to force a break and Yuta tags back in. Yuta is whipped to the corner and Kaun follows with a charge. He whips Yutas to the tropes and when Yuta tries his slingshot from the ropes, Liona nails him in the back. Kaun then whips Yuta from the apron to the barricade. Liona then charges through Yuta as we go to picture in picture.
When they return to full screen, Yuta has been beaten down the entire break. Kaun whips Yuta to the ropes where he does his slingshot back and gets a German suplex on Kaun. Both men are down and crawl to their corners. Claudio gets the hot tag and he cleans house. Claudio sets up for the big swing on Liona, but Kaun makes the blind tag and grabs a quick rollup on Claudio for two.
Kaun gets a gut buster for two. Kaun tries for a butterfly hold, but Claudio reverses it and tries for the big swing. Kaun gets to the ropes, but Claudio pulls him off and gets the big swing with the Yuta dropkick to end it. Yuta covers for two with Liona breaking it up. Nana gets into the ring and Claudio chases him to the back. Kaun gets a double underhook facebuster for two on Yuta. Liona tags in and he fights them both off with chops. They hit a double clothesline and a big slam for two.
Kaun tags in Claudio stops the Gates from hitting a double slam on Yuta. He tosses Liona over the top and gives Kaun an uppercut and Yuta hits a sidewalk slam. Yuta goes to the top and Claudio grabs him for the fastball special for the pin and the win.
