10/9 NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING DESTRUCTION REPORT

10/09/23 Results from New Japan’s DESTRUCTION in Ryoguku From Ryogoku, Tokyo Japan:

Preshow - Takahiro Katori, Kengo, Jun Masaoka, Kazuma Sumi and Takeshi Masada vs. Oskar Leube, Ryusuke Taguchi, Tiger Mask, Toru Yano and YOSHI-HASHI

Taguchi taps out Masaoka to an ankle lock.

1 - “Heat Storm” Yuya Uemura, DOUKI and Taichi vs. SHO, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and Yujiro Takahashi

Uemura, the former young lion, is the new member of Just 5 Guys.

Uemura pins Yujiro with a double underhook suplex.

Uemura looks impressive after returning from excursion.

2 - Chase Owens vs. Tanga Loa

Tanga Loa taps out Owens to the Operation Jado Killer.

3 - Callum Newman, Great O-Khan, HENARE and Jeff Cobb vs. BUSHI, Yota Tsuji, Shingo Takagi and Tetsuya Naito

Naito pins Newman after a Destino.

4 - IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship:  Kevin Knight and KUSHIDA vs. Clark Conners and Drilla Moloney

Very competitive match.

Moloney hit a Drilla Killer on KUSHIDA.   War Dogs hit a pop up spear on Knight.  War Dogs finish off KUSHIDA with Full Clip.

Moloney pin’s KUSHIDA.

War Dogs retain the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.

5 - Best of Seven - Match 7:  Shota Umino, Master Wato and Yuji Nagata vs. Ren Narita, El Desperado and Minoru Suzuki

Umino pins Narita with a Death Rider.

The best of seven series between both teams ends at 3-3-1.

After the match, Umino offers his hand to Narita and they shake hands.

Desperado shakes fingers with Wato.

Nagata and Suzuki slap each other in the face and also shake hands.

6 - Strong Openweight Tag Team Championship:  El Phantasmo and Hikuleo vs. Gabe Kids and Alex Coughlin

ELP pins Coughlin with Thunderkiss 86.

El Phantasmo and Hikuleo win the Strong Openweight Tag Team Championship.

7 - NEVER Openweight 6-man Tag Team Championship:  Josh Alexander, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelly vs. Tomohiro Ishii, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada

Kevin Kelly and Chris Charlton described Okada’s relationship with Sabin and Shelly during his time in Impact.  Kelly heels Vince Russo.   Hilarious.

Awesome stiff match.  Ishii hits Alexander with a headbutt that knocks his head gear off his head.  Alexander and Ishii beat the crap out of each other.

Tanahashi hits Twist and Shout on Shelly.  A Slingblade and a High Fly Flow.

Tanahashi pins Shelly.

Tomohiro Ishii, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada retain the NEVER Openweight 6-man Tag Team Championship.

8 - NEVER Openweight Championship:  Tama Tonga vs. David Finlay

Both men fought in and out of the ring and into the crowd.   Brutal stiff match.  Both men know each other well after this tour.   

Tama hits a Styles Clash and a Jay Driller.

Tama pins Finlay.

Tama Tonga wins the NEVER Openweight Championship.

Good night for Guerrillas of Destiny.

9 - IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship:  Mike Bailey vs. YOH vs. Hiromu Takahashi

Lio Rush could not participate in this match due to a stomach illness that hit a number of wrestlers on this tour.  According to Chris Charlton, Lio Rush got it the worst.   YOH pinned Hiromu last week and is Lio’s replacement.

Great match.  All men were exhausted.

Hiromu hits a Time Bomb II on YOH and gets the pinfall win.

Hiromu Takahashi retains the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship.

Mike Bailey screams for one more match.

The lights go out.  Taiji Ishimori appears in the ring, back from his neck injury, and attacks Hiromu.   Ishimori tells him the Time Bomb’s time is over

Hall of Famer Keiji Mutoh came to ringside for commentary.

10 - IWGP World Heavyweight Championship - Lumberjack Death Match:  EVIL vs. SANADA

Just 5 Guys and House of Torture will be the lumberjacks.

Lots of interference as expected.  Really good match.

SANADA hits EVIL with Everything is SANADA.   SANADA hits the Shining Wizard and hit a Dead Fall.

SANADA pins EVIL

SANADA retains the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.   

SANADA is presented with a giant poster from the New Japan sponsor.   

Keiji Mutoh presents the belt to SANADA.

Tetsuya Naito comes to the ring.   He promises he will recite the Los Ingobernales de Japon Roll Call after the main event at Wrestle Kingdom.  He leaves.

SANADA tells the story that 18 years ago he had a try out for New Japan Pro Wrestling.   The only one who passed was Tetsuya Naito.  He failed.   But now he is the Champion and Naito will be facing me. 

SANADA asks to dim the lights.  The crowd lights the Ryogoku with their cell phones.  He thanks the crowd and tells everyone “see you next time.”

Super Jr. Tag League begins on October 21.

Kevin Kelly says he will call Wrestle Kingdom as one of his last events as a part of New Japan.
