How do you determine your favorite website? And once decided as a favorite, how often do you access that site? Websites that you use regularly will be some of the first you access upon opening your web browser, so how do you do this?
There are several ways to access your favorite websites when you log into your internet browser. You may choose to use the autofill setting to bring up the URL when you begin typing the name of the website or use the favorites function and create a list of sites that you can access.
Favorites Option
The favorites function, although an old option, is still popular as it works for what you need it to do. You can save as many websites as you would like into your favorites and then can separate them by using folders to make groups of similar websites.
You could label a folder ‘best slot sites’ and then add all of your favorite slot websites into that one folder so you do not need to scroll through the list of favorites you have saved. You can choose to save the link for your favorite as what it is labeled by the website creator, or you can rename it so you can easily see what each link leads to.
Having an organized favorites folder on your web browser is an excellent way to navigate the websites you need or want to access. If you work predominantly online and access multiple websites to complete your work having a folder for all of the sites you use daily can be a quick and easy way to access everything you need.
You can use the favorites option on several browsers for the same or different websites, so if you use specific browsers for certain sites or systems, it is possible to set each browser up the same so you can access everything quickly and easily across multiple browsers.
Autofill Option
Autofill is a slightly quicker option for accessing your favorite websites, as all you need to do is type the first few letters of the website you wish to visit, and Autofill will complete the URL. This is slightly quicker than opening the favorites folder to access the websites you need.
However, there are a number of issues that could affect you using this option. Firstly, if you do not enable the setting, this option will not work. You can search online how to enable the setting to ensure that you can use the function to access the websites you need to use.
Also, this option relies on you knowing the first few letters of the URL for each website that you use daily. This is not an issue if you use a small number of websites, but for a larger number, this may become difficult to remember.
If you have to clear your cache and cookies, you may lose the autofill saved data too. If you are having issues with your browser or just regularly clear your cache, autofill could be cleared with this meaning you will lose all of the saved website information. You will then need to type the full URL or search for websites again to continue using them.
In-Private or Incognito
If you use the in-private or incognito browsing functions through your web browser, this will automatically delete all browsing history from the device that you are using when you close it. Your internet provider is still able to access the data of which websites have been accessed, but there will be no record of it on the device.
This means that you will not be able to use the autofill function on your browser, as no information is saved to store autofill details. While you may find that incognito or in-private is necessary when using your device, it will mean that saving your favorite sites is unlikely to be possible.
So, if using this function on your browser, you will need to ensure that you remember to write down or memorize the URLs of your favorite sites so that you can easily access them.
Shared Devices
If you are using a shared device, there are two ways to save your favorite websites. Firstly, you can set up individual profiles on the device; this is common in workplaces and can be easier for home devices. Individual profiles with a password enabled will help to ensure privacy when you are browsing the internet.
If you choose to use individual profiles, then all of the above options will apply to each profile on the device. You will not be able to access the browser favorites of other users of the device if they have their own profile.
If you choose to use the same profile, then again, you can use any of the above methods of accessing your favorite sites. However, they will all be visible to others who use that device. If this is the option you choose, we recommend that you use the favorite folder option if you have multiple sites to save.
Using the favorite folder in the browser is the easiest option, as you can create a folder named for each user of the device. You can then save all of your favorites within this folder or separate them with subfolders by topic or type of website within that folder.
It is best to note that you should be careful what you access and how much personal information you enter on a shared device. Especially a shared device without individual profiles because if the autofill function mentioned above is enabled, then your personal information could be saved.
Autofill can also be used to complete forms in addition to website information. If you fill in a form with your personal information and autofill is enabled, the details will be stored on the device. If another user then begins to fill in a form, they will have access to the personal details you have previously entered.
You can easily stop this from happening by clearing the cache and autofill when you log out, but this would then clear any saved URLs which could not then be used to access favorite websites.
