NEW WSW WOMEN'S CHAMPION CROWNED, YOUNG VS. CARDONA, SPEARS VS. KAZARIAN AND MORE: 10/7 WSW FULL THROTTLE TOUR RESULTS FROM MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

By Mike Johnson on 2023-10-07 14:10:00

Australia's World Series Wrestling continued their one week Full Throttle tour on 10/7 in Melbourne, Australia, streaming live on FITE.

They announced that Steph De Lander had been stripped of the WSW Women's Champion after being injured last night and being removed from the tour.  Given she came all the way home to Australia for the tour, the timing and bad luck there is pretty awful.  They will have a Gauntlet match to declare the new champion.

The show opened with former WSW Champion Matt Cardona coming out for a promo after losing the title to Shawn Spears on Night One.   Cardona claimed to be the true champion and said was screwed in the Melbourne Screwjob.  He called Spears a "p**sy" because he moved last night and tricked Cardona into knocking De Lander through a table.  Cardona promised to make Spears and Cassie Lee's lives a living hell.  He said he's always ready but this place is an unsafe working environment so he won't be wrestling tonight.  He said he hates everyone in the promotion and Melbourne, so he's leaving.  The lights went out and Eric Young made his way to the ring.  He said it was going to be them tonight in the ring.

Eric Young defeated Matt Cardona.  To the best of my knowledge, this was their first ever singles bout, although they have worked against each other in tag bouts in WWE.  The crowd was all over Cardona chanting "Chelsea's better."  Cardona did a lot of stalling early on.  After being on the wrong end of the offense early, Cardona pretended to act like he had respect for Young and Australia.  Cardona offered a truce and said they should shake hands and go get a few beers.  Of course, he then tried to turn on Young but was caught and hit with a big backdrop.  Young went for a piledriver but Cardona escaped.  Cardona was sent to the floor and immediately said he was taking back all the nice things he said.  He said he was going to leave.  Young took the mic and said this tour wasn't going well for Cardona and if he walked out, the tour will continue to melt down for him and Young will take his man card.  Cardona will go home to an empty house because Chelsea Green thinks he's an a-hole too.  An incensed Cardona hit the ring but Young cleaned house on him.  Cardona came back with the Reboot in the corner and scored several near falls.  Cardona grabbed a steel chair from under the ring but when he swung it, Young ducked and Cardona smashed himself when it rebounded off the ropes.  Young nailed a piledriver for the pin.  Really good stuff that saw everyone involved play their role perfectly and get the fans going.

ABC defeated The Velocities.  Good action here.  Velocities doubleteamed Chris Bey for some time, scoring several two counts.  Austin finally got the hot tag and scored several near fallsH on Chris Di Silva.  Di Silva and Austin battled on the top.  Austin was sent crashing down into the ring but evaded a top rope frog splash.  Jude London looked really strong hitting dropkicks and a dropsault on Bey and Austin, then took both down at once.  He nailed a great stunner on Austin for another two count.   He nailed a double stomp off the top on Bey but Austin broke up the pinfall at the last second.  They nailed a double boot on Austin, sending him to the floor.  Bey hit a nice flip dive to the outside on both.  ABC nailed the Ultimate Finesse followed by The Fold.  This win made ABC the top contenders for the WSW Tag Team titles.  Velocities meshed well with ABC here.

WSW Champion Shawn Spears defeated Frankie Kazarian.  The usual good action you'd expect between two veterans at this level early on.  Kazarian really has impressed since leaving AEW across the board, like he found his wind and passion again.  Spears was wrestling hard as well and seemed to be really enjoying the chance to just go in the ring.  Kazarian caught him with a Russian Legsweep and went for the crossface chickenwing but Spears evaded it.  Spears went for the Pedigree but Kazarian evaded.  They battled back and forth until Kazarian missed a legdrop on the apron.  They battled to the outside, chopping each other.  They went almost counted out but realized at nine and dove back into the ring.  They went nose to nose in the ring and began slugging it out.   Spears nailed a superkick but was caught with a running dropkick.  Spears nailed a brainbuster across his knee but Cardona hit the ring and attacked both.  They announced a no contest, which was disappointing as the action had been good.  Eric Young hit the ring and ran Cardona out of the ring.   Young and  Cardona brawled through the crowd and back into the ring.  At the same time, Spears and Kazarian began brawling again.  Everyone ended up back in the ring.  Young and Kazarian bumped into each other and went after each other.  Spears and Cardona started fighting.  Everyone brawled to the back, at which point, intermission was announced.  The post-match fracas was a lot of fun.

The Parea defeated WSW Tag Team Champions Warbeard to become the new champions.  Lot of brawling around ringside with the champs laying down the beatings.  Parea worked over Matt Basso for some time.  The referee was bumped, which allowed Erik Redbeard (Rowan) to be nailed with a low blow.  Parea attacked Basso on the floor and they tried to cuff him to the guard rail outside.  Redbeard was nailed with a chain.  Basso was then drilled with one on the floor. They tossed the referee in and faked a tag, which was funny.  Redbeard sat up like Undertaker and began dishing out chokeslams.  They rolled up Redbeard and scored the win.  Parea showed some good, cocky attitude during the bout.

WSW Australia Champion TJP defeated Speedball Mike Bailey and Brian Cage.  As you might imagine, a lot of action here.  For time, TJP and Bailey worked together before turning on each other.  TJP was tossed over the top to the floor by Cage.  They did some spots to showcase Cage's power, including slamming both opponents at once.  Cage chopped the hell out of Bailey.  He nailed a backbreaker over the knee on TJP.  TJP grabbed hanging front chancery.  Bailey and TJP went for a double suplex but Cage reversed, which got a big pop.  Cage was sent from the ring, allowing Speedball to hit all his signature moves on TJP.  He almost scored a three count with the running shooting star press.   TJP came back with a perfect tornado DDT for a two count.  He went to the top but Cage returned and knocked him of the top.  Bailey hit a moonsault to the floor on TJP.  Cage and Bailey battled back and forth.  Bailey nailed a kick to the chest and hit the flip into the double knee strike.  They continued with some fun action.  Cage did a double backslide on both.  Lots of unique submission sequences as well as they were stacked atop of each other.  Cage ate several superkicks but drilled them with a double clothesline.  Bailey nailed several martial arts kicks on Cage but was sent upside down by a big lariat.   He nailed a powerbomb in the corner on Bailey, smashing him into TJP.  Bailey nailed a rana, several kicks and Ultimate Weapon but missed.  Cage nailed the Drillclaw but TJP rolled up Cage for the pin.  Really damn entertaining stuff from bell to bell.

Cassie Lee (Peyton Royce) survived a Gauntlet to win the WSW Women's Championship.  Harley Cameron and Aysha kicked this off.   Aysha has a good look and plays a good, condescending heel.  I like her work.  Cameron won.  Jessica Troy was out next and worked over Cameron's wrist and shoulder.  Cameron caught her with a DDT.  Cameron was eliminated, bringing out Cassie Lee.  They battled back and forth with kicks and forearms with Lee finally getting the better of the exchange.  Lee nailed a kick to the side of the head but was caught with a pump kick.  Troy went to the ropes and nailed a tornado DDT for a two count.  She grabbed an armbar and drilled Lee with a series of elbows.  Lee battled to the ropes to force the break but was pulled to the center before she could be successful.  Lee finally used her legs to break the hold, getting to the ropes.  They battled back and forth until Lee nailed a spinning brainbuster.  Troy is really smooth in the ring.  Lena Kross, Troy's partner, was the final competitor.   Kross has something that makes her stand out and her offense looked legit.  She spent some time trash talking Lee, saying she was washed up.  She nailed a big sidewalk slam for a two count.  Lee was sent through the ropes to the apron but nailed a Scorpion Kick as Kross charged.  Lee nailed a double stomp across the back for a two count.  Lee went for the brainbuster but was kicked in the head.  Kross nailed a kneestrike for a two count.   She went for a Firewoman's Carry but Lee pulled out and nailed a sunset flip for a two count.  Kross pulled her up on the shoulders.  Lee used the ropes to escape but was drilled with a bicycle kick.  Kross went for a powerbomb but Lee turned it into a sunset flip and scored the pin.  A solid gauntlet with the most logical finish here with Lee, easily the biggest name, going over.  Kross attacked Lee after the bout and held up the title, obviously setting up a grudge rematch for later in the tour.  Cardona came down, aligning with Kriss.  Shawn Spears hit the ring to stop the beating.  There's Cardona's partner for later in the tour confirmed.

For the second show in a row, a good outing for WSW as the fans absolutely enjoyed themselves and everyone worked hard up and down the show.

Brian Cage vs. Ace Austin and TJP vs. New Japan Pro Wrestling's Kosei Fujita is set for 10/8.

10/10 will feature Cardona and Kross vs. Cassie and Shawn Spears.
