NEW WSW CHAMPION CROWNED, SPEEDBALL VS. ADAM BROOKS STEALS THE SHOW:10/6 WSW FULL THROTTLE TOUR RESULTS FROM MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

By Mike Johnson on 2023-10-07 01:10:00

Australia's World Series Wrestling kicked off their one week Full Throttle tour on 10/6 in Melbourne, Australia, streaming live on FITE.

*The event opened with WSW Champion Matt Cardona and WSW Women's Champion Steph De Lander cutting a promo knocking Melbourne.  Shawn Spears came out and challenged Cardona to face him for the title.

*WSW Australia Champion TJP defeated Chris Bey in a very good bout with a Detonation Kick and then a submission with an Octopus.  This was really good as their chemistry clicked and Bey had some great offensive sequences.

*AEW's Harley Cameron & Cassie Lee (Peyton Royce in her first match this year) defeated The Rebellion's Jessica Troy & Lena Kross.   Lee was worked over for a long time by Troy and Kross.  Troy had some really good looking forearm strikes.  Troy and Kross were very good as heel team working over their opponents.  Troy worked over Cameron's shoulder. Lee almost scored the pinfall with a Perfectplex.   At the end, all four slugged it out in the ring with forearms.  Kross was sent to the floor.  Troy was nailed with a backstabber and pinned by Cameron.

*AEW's Brian Cage pinned Impact Wrestling's Ace Austin with a Drill Claw and a lariat.  This was a really entertaining back and forth bout with Cage and Austin really taking it to each other with some great work.  This was one of the better Cage matches of late in my opinion.  Cage, who has worked here a lot, was super over and the crowd loved him.  Austin really wrestled his heart out and got a big ovation after.

*Impact Wrestling's Frankie Kazarian defeated Eric Young and Slex in a three-way bout to become the top contender for the WSW title.  Good action here.  Young went for a superplex when Slex was out of the ring but the Australian star returned and nailed a Tower of Doom.   There was a sequence where everyone went for a kick and their leg was grabbed by the other.  They all slowly put their legs down to the mat but then began drilling each other with right hands.   Kazarian nailed a slingshot legdrop on Young and yanked Slex into the ring with a cutter.  Kazarian went for the crossface chickenwing on Slex but Young nailed them and sent Slex to the floor.  He drilled Kazarian with an awesome flying elbow for a two count.   The finish saw Kazarian make Slex tap to the chicken wing just as Young tried to break it up.  Everyone shook hands after.

*WSW Tag Team Champions Warbeard, Erick Redbeard (Rowan) and Matt Basso defeated The Velocities.  Basso was worked over by the Velocities early.  He was drilled with a dive to the outside.  Redbeard was nailed with a tornado DDT for a two count.  Paris De Silva was caught on the top with a big boot by Redbeard.  Mat Diamond distracted Redbeard, allowing De Silva to nail a top rope frog splash for a two count.  Basso grabbed De Silva with a big chokeslam.  Warbeard retained with a Doomsday Device variation.  The crowd really enjoyed this, especially chanting "War!"

*Adam Brooks defeated Speedball Mike Bailey.  This was damn great and should get Brooks some well deserved attention internationally if there's any justice.  The Bailey showed all his karate style offense while Brooks hit everything perfect offense that really looked like he was doing damage.  His timing was absolutely perfect.  Bailey looked great with a mix of submissions and his aerial moves.  Brooks' forearms were just brutal looking and his kicks to the face were equal to that.  Brooks worked this like he was taking all his aggressions out on Bailey and he looked just badass.  They battled to the apron outside, where Brooks went for a German suplex that was blocked.  Bailey took his legs out and nailed Ultimate Weapon on the apron, which looked good.  He went for it again off the ropes but Brooks moved.  Bailey nailed kick to the face and hit Ultimate Weapon.  Brooks ate a roundhouse kick but kicked out at the last second.  They exchanged submissions and near falls.  Bailey hit a roundhouse kick but missed Ultimate Weapon off the ropes.  Brooks nailed a double knee strike off the top but no pinfall.  Brooks nailed a reverse superplex and then floated over to a crossarm crossface submission.  Bailey tried to hold on so Brooks pummeled him with forearms to the back of the head and trapped him again, forcing Bailey to tap.  They shook hands after.

*WSW Champion Matt Cardona with Steph De Lander defeated Shawn Spears.  Cardona is now channeling the Macho King era of Randy Savage's run.  The fans chanted "We want Chelsea" (Green, his wife) to get under Cardona's skin.  Cardona was full 80s heel here with some stalling tactics and even getting into it with a fan dressed as animated character Shrek in the crowd.  De Lander distracted Spears on the floor as he went to pull a table out, which allowed Cardona to attack.  Spears fought him off and grabbed a chair, playing off his AEW Chairman persona.  The referee took it away.  Spears caught him with an inverted atomic drop and rained down with punches in the corner.  De Lander ran interference, playing Sherri Martel to Cardona's Savage very well.  Cardona dropkicked Spears to the floor and then worked him over, choking the challenger.  Spears finally mounted a comeback, nailing a series of chops, a flying forearm and some kicks.  Spears nailed a clothesline and stomped him.  He went for a Pedigree, which he promised Cardona would "eat" in the show opening promo but Cardona escaped.  Cardona nailed the ropes, crotching Spears.  Cardona nailed the Reboot in the corner for a two count.  Spears came back to score several near falls but Cardona snatched the rope to break them up.  Spear was lowblowed as the referee was shoved aside.  Cardona nailed Radio Silence but Spears kicked out, which got a nice pop.   Cardona grabbed a title belt but the referee grabbed it.  That allowed Cardona to nail Spears with a chair but Spears kicked out at the last minute.  Cardona's facial expressions reacting to the kickout was very good.   Cardona went for a Pedigree but Spears kicked him off, which resulted in the referee being bumped out of the ring.  Spears nailed a spear but there was no official.  The crowd counted pinfalls for a long time as Spears covered him but alas, no referee.  Spears brought the official back in and caught Cardona going for a chair.  Spears teased using the chair but Cardona went down as if he was already hit, so Spears nailed him across the back with it. He nailed a DVDR but the referee was pulled out before he could count three.  Cardona went to nail Spears with the title belt but he ducked and the champ instead nailed De Lander, who crashed off the apron through a table in a scary looking bump.  Spears nailed The Pedigree and scored the pin.  Entertaining 90s WWE style bout with all the twists and turns.  Cassie Lee ran out to celebrate with her husband to end the show.

An entertaining few hours of wrestling.

Steph De Lander tweeted she's been pulled from the remainder of the tour after hitting her head on the concrete taking the bump:
