Wrestling Open Week 91

9/28/23 Worcester, MA

TWO CONSECUTIVE YEARS OF WEEKLY WRESTLING IN WORCESTER, MA (Wrestling Open till Present plus Season 2 of Uncharted Territory) - That is the theme for tonight. The community we’ve built and the people that have come up within it. And right away, we’ve got two relative up and comers in the Spotlight Match.

Spotlight Match: Hammer Tunis vs “The American Hammer” Matt Quay

Unsurprisingly, they trade hammer locks. Lol. Quay is flashy in his graps, getting the crowd clapping along with his legs at one point. Quay gets caught trying a slingshot right into a knee. Tunis with some heavy shots in the corner and trying to grind his eyes with the forearm. Quay refuses to get whipped, he tries to chop free but Tunis with the reversal hard whip to the buckle for two. Quay escapes an abdominal stretch, flying forearm! Body splashes, Sling blade! Fireman’s carry neckbreaker won’t keep Tunis down! He tries a slingshot elbow but lands into knees again. Tunis hits the hammerlock ddt for the win. Liked this one a lot.

Winner: Hammer Tunis

Paul Crockett & Brother Greatness are on commentary! Rich Palladino is our announcer! It’s Thursday! Let’s do this!

Match 1: Fancy Ryan Clancy vs “The Southern Flamingo” Kody Lane

I haven’t seen Lane work in a moment but this is a good matchup for his Open debut! Clancy locks him up early, send ms Lane to the apron and slingshots him back in. Clancy chasing him down but gets caught in the corner with a double stomp through the second buckle. Owww. Hard takedown but Clancy keeps gutting him on the knee over and over. Big dropkick! Lane in with a shoulder block trip to the buckles. Big shot electric chair powerslam! Lane powers out of the monkey flip! Spine buster! Fancy catches him running with a swinging backbreaker for the win. Really like Lane’s heel work with the crowd here.

Winner: Ryan Clancy

Rich Palladino is here to bring out Ray Jaz. Jaz calls Pedro Dones an absentee father. Jaz is about to get going about how he “stepped up” for Dones’ family…and Dones hits the ring. Pedro talks about how much he LOVES his kids…but this is about hate. And he hates Ray Jaz. Just like us! And he wants Jaz one on one and they are gonna settle this. He promises to show Jaz what his hate can do…and promptly chases him from the room.

Match 2: Steven Stetson (w/ Danny Miles) vs Prince Ahmed

Welcome back, Ahmed! This is mostly Stetson in the early going, landing hard as Miles chants for him to break the Prince. Ahmed with a cool arm drag with his leg but this is all the cowboy. Ahmed dodges out of the corner and starts landing hard rights! Killswitch into a knee! Yeeeeoow. Ahmed to the ropes but Stetson hits him from behind, blue Thunder standing powerbomb and a northern lariat ends the night.

Winner: Steven Stetson

Stetson grabs the mic and goes BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. I think he’s still mad at BRG.  Brett went to Open officials and wants a match with Stetson and Stetson is mad about that. I think that’s what he said. It might have been all that corn in his mouth.

Landon Hale is out here! He talks about how he moved up here but he didn’t expect the love he’s gotten from us. But the reason he’s here? He needs to talk to Love Doug, who still suffers from a broken heart. He says everyone loves Doug. We do. It’s true everyone has been through heartbreak…and we miss the old Love Doug. Hit Joe Ocasio’s music. Oh nooooo. Ocasio threatens Landon to get out of the ring…Hale faces him down but leaves Joel for Doug to fight.

Match 3: Love Doug (w/ Landon Hale) vs Joe Ocasio

Doug surprises Joe right out of the gate with some utterly aggressive offense. Joel has to say “what the hell” as he dumps Doug to the floor. Doug back in with a fury and will not let up until Ocasio suplexes him into the buckles. Wingman Landon trying to rally Doug! Ocasio with a corner spear! Doug getting battered by the Long Island Landmine. If Doug wants to feel pain, Joe has plenty to give. Doug ducks under a charge and snags a ddt! Big boot! Bulldog! Slice of Love  connects! Joe kicks out! Doug raging to his feet, beating his chest…he goes for another slice of love…Joe hits a stampede! “Cute story” Doug kicks out! Doug beats his chest, his heart, to life as Joe hits a flying head butt. He chokes Doug on the rope until Ref Bill has to disqualify him.

Winner: Love Doug

Joe tries to take out Landon while he tends to Doug but Hale stands up to him and trade blows until Joel goes running. Doug to his feet and shoves Hale away. They stare down as Doug leaves. Nothing really worked out for anyone tonight. Good match though. Really love this Loveless Douglas. Very excited for these prospective matches for Landon.

Match 4: “Kingpin” Brian Milonas vs GAL

Gal has been a powerhouse but even he gives up size and power to the Kingpin. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Gal take a one-sided beating like this. Slams and suplexes. Gal tries to fight back and Brian hits a swinging side slam. Gal dodges a seated senton. A dropkick bounces off the big man. Gal unloading lariats in the corner. He hits a world’s strongest slam on Milonas! Whaaat! He goes for the full Nelson. Brian powers out. He tries the fireman’s carry. No…no that doesn’t happen. Milonas hits the seated senton for the win.

Winner: Brian Milonas

Oh, Brian has the mic. He keeps knocking people down. He doesn’t wanna do this every Thursday forever. He feels like he’s in purgatory. Milonas says his resume stacks higher than the entire locker room combined…he trained under Killer Kowalski…unlike our IWTV champion, Alec Price. He challenges the champ to face him in the ring. Price is right in there nose to nose. Milonas calls Price undeserving of his spot and his championship and that he’s protected by the powers that be up here. He says he will be IWTV champion. Price is sick of this whining. Price talks about six years ago when no one could beat the kingpin and he was just green… it he was the champion of a small pond and Price owns the ocean. Milonas comes for the fight but Price drops him with an enziguri. He goes for the Suprize kick but Milonas shoves him off and gets to the curtain. Price says whenever Milonas is feeling froggy, he can jump.

It’s Church time. Tyree Taylor and Brother Greatness quote some scripture to justify their hospitalization of RJ Rude last week. Well, RJ has a big friend who is looking for revenge.

Match 5: Tyree Taylor (w/ Brother Greatness) vs Rex Lawless

Huge Thez press at the bell! Tyree just getting dropped to the mat and speared in the corner. This is the meat match and we be slapping. Tyree takes a beating but he blasts Rex in the lower back and it’s time to make Lawless repent. Greatness is overjoyed until Lawless catches a finlay roll and heads to the top. Tyree with a head kick sends him down. Kick out. Tyree slapping Rex across the face but that fires him up. Big boot in the corner! Cannnnnonballllll! Rex hits the Vader bomb! Tyre grabs the rope at two. Tyree blocks the chokebomb. Corner splash and a spinning wheel kick! He goes for the discus lariat but Rex hits the chokebomb! He goes for a Boston crab but Greatness uses the power of the word to compel Tyree to the rope! Cactus clothesline! Greatness helps Tyree up, Rex gets distracted and Taylor blasts him. Rex decks Tyree to the first row and tries to make the count but Brother Greatness holds his foot and it’s a double countout!

Winner: No One (Double Count out)

Rex tries to chokebomb Brother. Tyree makes the save and they battle towards the curtain. Greatness hits him with the collection basket. Rex is gonna kill him but Tyree blindsides him with the big chain and leaves Lawless laying!

Rich has another special guest. It’s TJ Crawford. Why. Oh, he pinned Ichiban in a tag match sooooooo he think that makes him number one contender. He calls the wrestling Open champion out to face him. Ichiban is here! TJ wants to send him a message. No one believed that TJ could be THE guy. But he pinned Ichiban so maybe he SHOULD get a shot. “Ichiban Number One”. TJ offers a warmup match next week. They can have another tag team match and he will prove he’s the man.

Match 6: Tina San Antonio vs Gabby Forza (2 out of 3 Falls match)

This is a “Sweet Dreams” match. The winner gets their dream opponent one on one next week. This two are one and one and this is a hell of a rubber match. They power the lockup around the ring. Tina with a slap and quickly tossed to the top rope. Gnomie with an atomic drop and spine buster! Huge press slam for two! Tina dodges a Vader bomb and tosses Gabby to the floor. That clearly hurt our homie and Tina focuses in on those abs. Kokeshi headbutt! Tina whips her chest first to the buckles. Tina is walking her down with hard shots. While we love Forza, San Antonio is using her veteran instincts to keep this relative newcomer grounded. Gabby with a side slam! Forza with a fallaway slam! Hard whip reversal to the corner! Vader bomb! Tina kicks out! They fight over a suplex, Tina knees her in the gut…she hits a ddt but Gabby reverses it to a bridge for three! Gabby 1-0

Tina attacks Forza during the 30 second break. This is apparently OKAY and Gabby is staggered with a closed fist. Tina stomping her out. Trip to the apron. Ddt connects again but Tina gets the three on this one. A brutal quick second fall to tie up the score. Tie 1-1

Tina rips up the gnome hat during the break. Tina right in and not letting up on those ribs. Gabby getting beaten post to post. Backbreaker to Forza! Gabby dodges a second bronco buster! Both are breathing hard as they throw shots back and forth. Tina dumps Gabby to the floor..but she pops back up with a slingshot spear! Tina looks dead but she gets a foot to the rope! She’s going for the win but Tina rolls her up. Feet on the ropes! Ref Bill catches it! Forza goes full Gnome-berg! Spear! Jackhammer! Forza wins!!! This was awesome.

Winner: Gabby Forza

Who is Gabby Forza’s dream opponent??? Rich Palladino is here to find out…next week, its’s Gabby Forza vs…..

MASHA SLAMOVICH!!!

Holy s***.

Main Event: Brick City (Julio Cruz and Victor Chase w/ Big Bacon Hollister) vs Miracle Generation (Dustin Waller & Kylon King) (Eliminator Cup)

Man, with Waves & Curls waiting on the other side of the bracket…I feel like we’re running back the Season 3 Discovery Gauntlet again…and I can’t be happier. It’s amazing to see how all these teams have elevated themselves in the past two years. It’s a face over but this just escalates right into a brawl. This is Brick City’s kind of fight, especially with Hollister at ringside. Dustin is taking a beating. He’s trying to fight back but this is a numbers game. Until he’s able to escape on the outside and dive to Kylon! King going wild! Huge suplex! Double northern lights! Did he just kill Julio? Kick out! Double superkick to Cruz. 450!!! Victor breaks it up. Side Russian bomb combo! Dustin fighting back! Double jawjacker! Brick city catches the handspring cutter! Dustin dodges the business is booming. Kylon flies into a double worlds strongest slam! Victor rammed into Julio! MG goes for the Powerplex but Dustin ends up splashing Kylon! Brick End to Kylon! Kick out! Kylon up in the shoulders….doomsday device? No! Kylon takes the hit right into a rollup! Victor caught up top! Powerplex! Bacon pulls ref Gina out! While she’s in his face, Ricky Smokes and Brad Baylor hit the ring. Dustin takes care of Smokes but Brad lariats Kylon in half! Brick City hits Business is Booming for the three. They advance! This was VERY GOOD and probably would have stolen the show any other week….had it not been heisted in the previous match for me ;)

Winner: Brick City

And that’s it! The finals of the Eliminator Cup are set for next week! We have a huge return to look forward too! Miracle Generation have some dorks to kill! This was a blast of a show. Some good longer matches and quite a few connecting segments to get our story train rolling full steam towards the end of the year!
