AEW RAMPAGE REPORT

It is Friday and this week, AEW Rampage was recorded after AEW Dynamite at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, CO. Our commentary team is Taz and Excalibur.

The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) and Billy Gunn AWE Trio Champions vs The Hardys (Matt and Jeff Hardy) and Brother Zay

Bowens and Zay lock up, collar and elbow, and they trade wrist control and headlocks until Bowens gets a takedown. Zay and Bowens each get an arm drag, and Bowens blocks Zay’s second arm drag, and Zay follows with a tejaris. Bowens gets a pair of kicks and then a flying leg drop. 

Bowens tags in Max and Zay tags in Matt, who tags in Jeff for a splash off the second rope. Jeff gets a back kick and Max escapes to tag in Gunn. Matt is tagged back in and the pace slows for each to do their hand gestures. Gunn gets a shoulder tackle on Matt and whips him to the corner. Matt stops Gunn’s charge and hits the Deletes into each turnbuckle. Jeff is tagged in and he tags in Zay and they attack Gunn in the corner, which sets off the tag team siren and everyone in the ring. Hardy’s team is thrown out, and Zay has to take the Scissor Me Timbers as we go picture in picture.

When they return to full screen, Zay had been worked over by The Acclaimed and Gunn tags in to work him over in the neutral corner. Matt has words with Gunn, and Gunn knocks him off the apron. Gunn charges at Zay in the corner, but Zay dodges and Gunn wipes out and does the Flair flop. 

Gunn gets up and Zay gets an insigiri and tags in Jeff, who runs wild. The sequence ends with Jeff hitting the Whisper in the Wind on Max and Bowens. Gunn gets a Twist of Fate from Matt. Jeff hits a swanton for two, broken up by Bowens. Matt gets double teamed by the Acclaimed. Zay tags in as does Bowens and gets a modified DDT and low bridges Gunn out of the ring. Zay hits a moonsault on Gunn on the floor.

The Acclaimed double team Zay and hit him with a two person slam for the pin and the win.

Winners and still AEW Trios Champions: Acclaimed and Billy Gunn

We are told that The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn will defend against TMDK from New Japan at WrestleDream. 

Backstage, Jay Lethal confronts Eddie Kingston and says he isn't worthy of being the ROH Champion.

Backstage, Lexy Nair interviewed Andrade el Idolo, who says he will see Juice Robinson in Seattle.

Eddie Kingston (New Japan Strong Openweight Champion) vs Rocky Romero 

They lock up collar and elbow and move to waistlocks and wristlocks. Rocky hits a drop kick and gives a shoulder shake. They lock up again and Rocky gets a side headlock. Ricky tries for a shoulder block, and Eddie doesn’t  move. Rocky gets a head scissors takeover which takes Eddie to the floor, and Rocky then gets three dives, but Eddie catches him, on the third and hits a vertical suplex on Rocky on the floor as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Rocky gets a snap suplex on Eddie. Rocky hits a series of mocking kicks and Eddie gets to his feet and drops the straps. They trade chops and Edide is able to drop Rocky. Rocky gets a back insigiri and covers for two. Eddie hits an ura nage and short arm clothesline for two. 

Rocky gets a leaping knee strike and then a kick to the chest in the ropes. Eddie yells “Is that all you’ve got” and Rocky hits a pair of strikes and a leaping kick for two. They fight to the corner and Eddie hits the machine gun shops and they go to the top. Rocky hits an avalanche sliced bread for two. Rocky then  hits the forever clotheslines, and Eddie is able to cut him off with a pair of back fists and then follows with the stretch plumb, and Rocky has to tap out. 

Winner and still New Japan Strong Never Openweight Champion: Eddie Kingston

Katsuyori Shibata comes out, marches to the ring and they shake hands.

Aussie Open promise to take the AEW Tag Team titles at WrestleDream.

The Righteous (Vincent and Dutch) vs The Already In The Ring Caleb Crush and Gunner

Gunner gets the tar beat out of him by Vincent, and Dutch hits sidewalk slams on Gunner and the Crush. Vincent hits the assisted spinning DDT on Gunner and it’s over.

Winner: The Righteous

They do a video package building Ortiz vs. Santana.

Nick Wayne vs. Luchasaurus is set for WrestleDream.

Zack Sabre Jr. cut a promo saying he was fresh from his flight from Japan and would send Bryan Danielson into retirement on Sunday.

It’s Time for the Main Event

Ruby Soho vs Hikaru Shida - Winner gets a whole title match at Title Tuesday

Saraya goes to the back when Ruby heads to the ring. 

Ruby grabs a side headlock after they charge into each other. Shida shoots her off and hits a shoulder tackle. Ruby rolls to the floor to regroup and then she attacks Shida in the corner with shoulder trusts. Shida escapes and starts working over Ruby, who ducks out to escape. Ruby is not so lucky the next time, and Shida hits a series of blows and then gets a leaping cross body out of the corner. Shida then gets in the ten punches in the corner and Shida follows with a drop kick off the second rope as we go picture in picture. 

When we return to full screen, both women are down and struggling to their feet. Once they are up, they trade strikes. Shida is able to win the exchange with a dumping knee followed by a brain buster for two. Shida sets up for the katana kick and Ruby dodges and rolls out of the ring to regroup. Shida follows her as Ruby goes to get something under the ring. Shida hits a drop kick from the steel steps and then sets  up for a back breaker on the floor. Shida carries Ruby up the ramp and Ruby is able to escape and they fight on the ramp.

They have to run to the ring to beat the count. Ruby gets a head butt, a rising knee strike and a suplex for two. Ruby grabs Shida’s Kendo stick. The ref sees it and grabs it from her, While the ref is getting rid of it, Ruby goes for the spray paint. Ruby and Shida fight over it and the ref gets nailed with it. As he is down, Ruby hits Destination Unknown and the ref isn’t there to count it.

Ruby grabs the Kendo stick and Shida grabs it and uses it on Ruby, hits the Katana kick and no ref to count. A referee runs to the ring and Ruby kicks out at two. Shida goes for a meteora, and Ruby avoids it.  Ruby hits a back heel trip and then goes to the top. Ruby tries for a senton, but Shida gets her knees up.  Shida hits a falcon arrow for two., 

Ruby tries for No Future, but misses, and Shida hits the Katana kick for the pin and the win.

Winner and moving on for a AEW Women’s title match: Hikaru Shida

Saraya comes down to the ring to show off the title and we are desperately out of time.
