If there is one actor/wrestler, who can be called the face of WWE after the infamous, but quite retired, Undertaker, it is JOOOOOOOOOOHHHHNN CEEENAA! The actor has years of professional experience as a pro wrestler, winning titles in multiple formats before slowly yet surely transitioning over to mainstream acting. Granted, not everyone can dominate two vastly contrasting fields but Mister Cena has done so with incredible zest and dedication to win over fans & viewers alike.
We’re going to go ahead and hover over his hard work, both as a five-knuckle shuffling wrestler and as a versatile actor. Maybe even pepper in a bit of his personal life and moments where things took a bit of a…spicier…turn.
So come on along, let’s dive into the life of The Champ!
John Felix Anthony Cena hails from California and originally wanted to pursue a career in bodybuilding before shifting over the wrestling. Cena entered the wrestling universe through Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), which could be considered a pre-requisite to joining the WWF back in the day. Having not undergone any training to look good while landing punches, the OVW spent a good chunk of time perfecting our hero; helping him win a bunch of domestic titles before letting him move on to Smackdown in 2002.
After a couple of years on the grind, Cena went on to win the WWE Championship in 2005 and cemented himself as the face of the franchise. His look changed, going for a clean-cut, army style and opting to salute the fans before sliding into the ring.
Cena dove head-first into film by starring in The Marine, a film produced exclusively by WWE Studios to pay tribute to American Marines and the life they endure in and out of battle. The title was extremely successful and made $7 million at the United States box office with plenty more revenue coming in from all over the world later.
His next two films, 12 Rounds and Legendary were released in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Each of these helped amass a large number of followers and revenue for WWE as well as the star-studded actor. With so much success stacking up on John’s plate, this positivity helped cascade a duo career for the Champ. He then focused on creating more movies but those, which had a lighter theme to them, for children.
Fast forward to the present, Cena still has a lot more titles incoming for audiences to enjoy on the big screen. The latest of which is his standalone show called Peacemaker where John is depicted as an anti-hero, who loves serving justice in his own conflicted, gory yet oh-so-awesome way. You'd want the best internet connection if you’re looking to stream his movies and for this we recommend setting yourself up with AT&T Internet deals. The company has a vast array of choices to take your pick from and guarantees that all the knuckle-pounding action will be provided in vivid HD.
For those of you who don’t already know, Cena has a side hustle as a rapper as well. He’s been signed up with Colombia Records and the WWE Music Group on multiple occasions. The superstar was particularly active in this department from 2004 to 2005 and then had his passion resurface in 2014 as well. Cena went so big that he performed his fifth WWE theme song, “Basic Thuganomics” which went on to be featured in the WWE Soundtrack album, WWE Originals.
The actor started out with his mainstream music career by publishing his debut album, You Can’t See Me, produced exclusively by him and his cousin, Tha Trademarc. This album even had another song, The Time is Now, that went ahead to become his entrance theme for quite a while.
Cena has been instrumental in raising his voice against bullying. From late 2011 until Wrestlemania XXVIII, John Cena wore multiple shirts, all of which had a “Rise Above Hate” Slogan printed on their back. It was because of his efforts that many raised their voice and efforts against the concept of bullying. Not just in schools but also in professional spaces.
Similarly, Cena wore pink and black shirts in 2012 that said “Rise Above Cancer” to help promote awareness about the severity of breast cancer. A movement of his that was appreciated worldwide and saw him become a voice for the betterment of people. Cena even went ahead to donate $1 million donation to Black Lives Matter in June of 2020, a decision that won him respect and admiration worldwide.
That’s a wrap on some of the juiciest bits we have pertaining to the life of John Cena. Loved and respected by fans worldwide, Cena is still kicking in high gear as he uses his charm, talent, and warmth to make the world a better place. Not every wrestler or actor can present as great an example as Cena is.
