WWE has released Matt Riddle, PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources. We are told the release took place around 5 PM this evening.
Riddle has been off TV the last several weeks with what talents were told was a "medical issue." That happened shortly after a recent incident at JFK Airport where Riddle alleged that a Port Authority Police Officer had sexually assaulted him in social media postings, an allegation that he later deleted. An investigation into the altercation was opened. There is no word where that investigation currently stands.
Riddle, a former UFC fighter, was signed to WWE in 2018 after training at New Jersey's Monster Factory and competing for EVOLVE.
After a run in WWE NXT, Riddle was drafted to the main roster in 2020. He was one half of RK-Bro with Randy Orton and had just started a storyline with Drew McIntyre that seemed fated to have McIntyre turn heel on Riddle.
Riddle's run, despite his popularity, was not without controversy. He had taken time off for what was believed to have been a rehab stay after failing several WWE Wellness Tests and several years ago, was accused of sexual assault by independent wrestler Candy Cartwright leading to a lawsuit that was later dropped.
Riddle's final WWE bout was a 9/4 Monday Night Raw match, teaming with Drew McIntyre in a loss to the Viking Raiders.
Riddle's exit comes just a little over a week after Endeavor, which owned UFC, purchased and merged WWE and UFC under one parent company, TKO Holdings. Riddle's exit from UFC years ago was anything but amicable.
