AEW RAMPAGE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2023-09-15 23:24:00

It is Friday and this week, AEW Rampage was recorded after AEW Dynamite at the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, OH. Our commentary team is Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho, and Excalibur..

Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Butcher and Blade vs The Lucha Brothers (Rey Fenix and Penta) and the Hardy Boyz (Matt and Heff Hardy)

Sonjay Dutt, Karen Jarrett and Satnam Singh come out with Jarrett. Bunny, Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford come out with Butcher and Blade.

Alex Abrahantes comes out with the Lucha Brothers. Brother Zay comes out with the Hardy Boyz.

So, it’s pretty crowded at the ring.

Jarrett and Penta start off with their normal gimmicks, Jarrett then gives Penta a kick, drapes him on the second rope and hits a big boot, followed by strutting. Penta drops him with a superkick. Lethal tags in and whips Penta into the ropes where Rey gets a blind tag and hitsd a missile drop kick from the top on Lethal. Penta and Rey clothesline Lethal, Butcher tags in and they drop him with a double superkick.

Jeff is tagged in after Rey works over Butcher in the corner. Jeff tags in Matt and they work over Butcher. Matt works on Butcher's arm and then he and Jeff keep working on Butcher with quick tags. Lethal and Blade try to interfere, but the Hardys cut them off. Jarrett is able to attack Matt from behind and Butcher uses that to take control.

Matt is then the babyface in peril as Jarrett’s team work him over with quick tags and they go into the picture in picture.  When they return to full screen, Matt and Blade clothesline each other to the mat. Jarrett’s team knocks everyone on Hardy’s team off the apron, but Fenix is able to spring back up as Blade holds Hardy to keep him from tagging. Matt is finally able to break free and tag in Rey, who cleans house.

Penta comes in to help Rey and hits a dive onto Jarrett’s team on the floor. Blade grabs Rey and drags him onto the floor.  As they fight, Alex goes to the top. First Sonjay pulls him down and he knocks Sonjay down, Kip does the same and gets the same result, Alex leaps into the waiting arms of Satnam, who slams him, but it gives Rey time to break free and dive onto Jarrett’s team.

Rey returns to the ring and throws hands with Blade. Rey gets a ab breaker on Blade for the pin and the win as the two teams fight up the ramp.

Winners: The Lucha Brothers (Rey Fenix and Penta) and the Hardy Boyz (Matt and Heff Hardy)

The Righteous show up as the Hardyz are out flat on the ramp to stand over them, menacingly.

In the back, Renee Paquette is with Britt Baker, and Baker says the last few months haven’t gone as planned. She should be a two time world champion. So, she will do what she does best, make history, but she will hold the World Title and the TBS Champion and will go for the TBS title on Collision tomorrow night.

Matt Sydal and Christopher Daniels vs The Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett)

Daniels and Bennett start off, and they trade side headlocks. They start to run the ropes, but Bennett stomps down Daniels when he drops down. Bennett works over Daniels in the ropes and then whips him to the opposite side of the ring. Daniels comes back, slips through Bennett’s legs and hits him with an arm drag. Danielsthen gets a drop toe hold and tags in Sydal. Daneils slams Bennett, slams Sydal on top of Bennett, and then Sydal gets a standing moonsault onto Bennett.  Bennett escapes and tags in Taven.

Taven shoves Sydal away, Sydal gets a kick and then a hurricanrana. Daniels is tagged in and they drop Taven with double team moves. Bennett comes into the ring and gets knocked to the outside. Daniels charges at Bennett in the ropes, and Bennett sends him up and over to the floor.  Taven nails Daniels with an elbow strike and we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Daneisl has been beat down by The Kingdom the whole break, but Daneils gets the hot tag and Sydal ruins wild. Sydal ends his flurry with a meteora for two, broken up by Bennett.  Taven hits a blue thunder bomb for two, broken up by Danielson. Daniels is tagged in and Sydal and Daneils hit an assisted belly to back suplex for two. Bennett hits Sydal with a Death Valley Driver.

Bennett holds Daniels as Taven hits a running kick for the pin and the win.

Winners: The Kingdom

Taven grabs a mic and put over that they are the OGK. They have to get back to the hospital to check on Roderick Strong. He doesn’t blame Samoa Joe for what happened, he blames ADAM! ADAM! Cole. And they want to take their tag team titles. Bennett says if someone doesn’t believe in neck health, you punch them in the weiner (yeah, he said weiner) and give them a pile driver.

We then go to Renee with Prince Nana, Brian Cage and Swerve Strickland. Prince Nana complains about the Young Bucks putting their feet in his face. Cage says he will go after the Bucks, as does Swerve. Swerve says that Page ran to the Bucks for help, so they will take on the Bucks and Adam Page at Grand Slam.

The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) and Billy Gunn(AEW Trios Champions) vs The Outrunners (Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd) and Peter Avalon

I’m sure that this will be a competitive match and…

…we get some Billy Gunn shenanigans, the Outrunners and Avalon do their silliness and Avalon has to take the pin after a scissor me timbers, a famouser, and a mic drop.

Winners and still AEW Trios Champions:  The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) and Billy Gunn

Dark Order break up the scissor party and John Silver says that the Acclaimed are mean, and they are the good guys. The Dark Order says they are the good guys here. Bowens asks why the Dark Order should have a shot at the titles.

Evil Uno says they have been climbing the ladder for four years. They are tired of good things happening to bad people. He says the Acclaimed do the same thing every week (he’s not wrong). He then says they need to show they are worth the Dark Order’s time, and tomorrow one of them will face one of The Acclaimed.

Billy says they will decide who to face the Dark Order with Rock, Paper, Scissors, but they always choose scissors every time until Uno stops them. Bowens says he will take the match.

Aussie Open (Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher) vs The Already In The Ring Damian Chambers and Lord Crewe

Aussie Open swarm when the bell rings and then slam Crewe and Chambers into each other. They hit the Coriolis on Chambers and then on Crewe for the pin and the win.

Winners: Aussie Open

It’s time for the main event

Kris Statlander (AEW TBS Champion) vs Jade Cargill w/Mark Sterling

They lock up collar and elbow and go into the ropes, then back to the middle of the ring and break. They lock again and go into the rings, this time with Jade hitting a knee to Stalander’s midsection.  In the back, Britt Baker is watching. They charge into each other and then clothesline each other and neither goes down. Jade hits a knee and Statalnder tries for a cross body, Jade tries to toss Statalnder, but she goes up and over. Jade tries a leaping cross body and Statlander catches her.

Statlander slams Cargill. Jade goes to the floor, catches Statlander and tosses her as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Cargill has been beating down Statlander. Statalnder and Jade keep trying to suplex the other, and Cargill finally gets the stalling vertical suplex. Statlander holds on and gets a blue thunder bomb on Jade and both women are down. They both kip up and start throwing hands. Statalnder is able to win the exchange and beats down Jade in the corner.

Statlander is whipped to the corner, but she goes up and over Jade, and then hits her series of running uppercuts and a knee strike on Jade. Jade escapes Friday Night Fever but gets hit with a blue thunder bomb for two. Statlander pulls Jade to the corner and Sterling gets on the apron. He says if Statlander hits him he will sue, so Statlander gets out fo the way when Jade charges, and Jade pulls up short.

Statlnder swings at Jade, but Jade pulls Sterling into the blow and then hits a pump kick on Statlander. Jade sets up for Jaded, but Statalnder turns it into a rollup for two. Jade hits a choke slam for two. Jade tries for Jaded again, and Statlnder backs her into the corner. Statlander gets a discus lariat, a scissor kick and then the Friday night fever for the pin and the win.

Winner and still TBS Champion: Kris Statlnder
