BRETT WAYNE SAWYER PASSES AWAY

By Mike Johnson on 2023-09-09 12:16:00

Bobby Fulton announced the passing of Brett Wayne Sawyer at 68 years old:

Sawyer, real name Brett Woyan, was the brother of the late Maddog Buzz Sawyer, who trained Brett.  The brothers teamed in Don Owens' Pacific Northwast Wrestling in the late 1970s and early 1980s with Brett using the "Hacksaw" moniker.  He worked for Owens for many years, holding the Pacific Northwest title four times and holding the Tag Team belts multiple times as well.

Outside of the Portland territory, Brett and Buzz feuded with The Road Warriors, Hawk and Animal, in Georgia Championship Wrestling over the NWA National Tag Team titles.  Brett Sawyer worked for Jim Crockett Promotions in 1985 and 1986, teaming with Buzz and they also toured New Japan Pro Wrestling together in 1987.  In Championship Wrestling from Florida, Sawyer teamed with Jim Backlund (the future Jimmy Del Rey) as The Playboys.   He teamed with Chicky Starr in Southwest Championship Wrestling.

As a singles star, Brett Wayne Sawyer held the Central States Wrestling Championship in Kansas City.

Sawyer last wrestled in 1998 but had recently started to make autograph and photo appearances at conventions, including last month's The Gathering III in Charlotte, NC.
