It is Friday and this week, AEW Rampage was recorded after AEW Dynamite from Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, IN. Our commentary team is Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho, and Excalibur.
Jay Lethal vs Penta in a Grand Slam Tournament Match
They start by shoving each other and they move to trading arm bars. Penta gets an arm drag. Lethal calls for a hand shake and when Penta refuses, Lethal struts. Penta gives him a kick and then struts as well. They trade chops and Penta moves to kicks. Pewnta misses a tejaris and they move to the top rope with Lethal getting chops. Penta knocks Lethal down to the second turnbuckle, stomps Lethal and covers for two.
Penta kicks Lethal off the apron to the floor and starts to dive, but Lethal gets out of the way. When Lethal tries to get in the ring, Penta kicks him down again. Penta tries to dive, but Satnam Singh catches him and slams his back into the ring post. They roll Penta into the ring and tie his mask in the ropes, and the ref sees the last part of their actions. So, Jeff Jarrett and Lethal’s entourage are OUTTA HERE!
After we come back from picture in picture, Lethal is beating down Pewenta in the corners. Lethal puts Penta in the ropes, hits a chop and whips Penta across the ring. Penta comes off the ropes and takes over with a sling blade and then dives into Lethal on the floor. Lethal rolled into the ring and Penta hits a double stomp from the top turnbuckle for two. Lethal recovers for a Lethal Combination for two.
Lethal sweeps the leg and goes for a figure four, but Penta kicks him off. Penta whips Lethal into the ropes and follows him in with a kick and a two count. Lethal rips off Penta’s mask and Lethal crawls over to grab the guitar. Alex pulls it out of his hands. Lethal goes for a Lethal Injection, but Penta turns it into a back stabber. Penta then snaps Lethal’s arm, hits the Fear Factor, and gets the pin and the win.
Winner and moving on the in the tournament: Penta
Jericho’s commentary is pure heel commentary.
We then get a recap of the issues between Jericho and Sammy Guevara.
Sammy then comes to the stage with a microphone, and Excalibur says this was Jerichoi’s time. Jericho leaves commentary and Sammy says Jericho is pissing him off, but he knows he is pissing Jericho off. They both say they want to punch each other in the face. Jericho says they are getting on each other’s nerves, but they are brothers. He says they need to settle their issues. Jericho says they need to fight like friends in a bar and get the crap out of their system by having a match.
Sammy asks where they want to do that, and Jericho tells them they will do it at the Grand Slam in New York. They can figure it out and get back on track. Sammy says Hell Yeah, and they shake hands. They hug and smile at the camera.
Sky Blue, Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida vs The Bunny, Taya Valkyrie, and Anna Jay w/Penelope Ford
Bunny and Blue start out, Blue tries for a hip toss, but Bunny blocks it. Skye reverses it into a surprise roll up and a bridge for two. They trade waistlocks and Blue is able to get another roll up for two. Bunny tags in Taya. Thedy trae forearms and chops. Blue tries an arm drag off the ropes, but Taya slams her instead and we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Blue has been the babyface in peril and she nails Taya with an elbow and a kick to escape and tag in Shida. Anna is tagged in and Shida drops her with strikes. She picks up Anna in a fireman’s carry, and Taya comes in and nails Shida with a kick and tosses her into her corner. Bunny tags in and it is time for each woman to hit the last person with a finisher until Baker is tagged in and she knocks Bunny down. She grabs her glove and calls for the lockjaw.
As Bunny and Baker fight, Shida leaps from the top to help, but Shida and Baker knock heads accidentally. Bunny covers for two, but Baker reverses it into the lockjaw and Bunny has to tap out.
Winners: Sky Blue, Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida
Baker and Sghida have words after the match and Shida storms off.
We get a video of Hook at All Out winning the FTW title back.
Matt Menard and Angelo Paker w/Jake Hager vs The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson)
Parker and Nick start off and Matt tags in immediately and they work double team moves of both Parker and Menard. Parker pokes Matt in the eye and gets a strike before Matt hits a series of Northern Lights suplexes. Matt runs in to be a part of the third suplex and both Menard and Parker roll to the outside.
Matt goes to run the ropes and Hager grabs the leg and this allows Parker and Menard to work over Matt in their corner. Menard runs into Matt’s boots in the corner, and Matt then leaps over him to tag in Nick. Nick cleans house on Manard and Parker. Matt comes in and assists with the beat down, hitting the BTE trigger on Menard for the pin and the win.
Winners: The Young Bucks
MIke Santana says he can’t depend on anyone to have the same passion and drive as him, and the road that must be taken must be taken alone. He’s not here to make friends, he’s here to make money.
Our Main Event
Samoa Joe vs Jeff Hardy in the Grand Slam Tournament
Jowe rolls his eyes at Jeff Hardy’s playing to the crowd. Jeff dodges a strike from Joe in the corner and hits a series of kicks on Joe. Jeff gets a diving lariat on Joe for two. Joe quickly reverses an arm bar and gouges Jeff's eyes before starting to work as we go picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Jeff is starting to fight his way back, hitting a jawbreaker and 0 knocking Joe down. It’s weird that the majority of this main event match was on picture in picture, as it started with 8 minutes left in the show. Joe hits a sliding drop kick on Jeff, knocking Jeff to the floor. Jeff rolls back in the ring at 8 and Joe peppers him with blows in the corner. Joe whips Jeff into the corner, and Jeff hits an elbow and then a whisper in the wind. Both men are down, and Jeff is up first. Jeff hits clotheslines and back elbows, and drops on Joe’s lower abdominal area for two.
Jeff calls for Joe to get up. Jeff gets a flip kick, but Joe is able to get the Coquina clutch and Jeff is put to sleep.
Winner and moving on in the tournament: Samoa Joe.
