COMPLETE AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2023-09-06 20:12:00

It is Wednesday and this week, AEW Dynamite is at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, IN.  The commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz.

Orange Cassidy comes to the ring to start the show. He says he was told to stay home and he says he says he would be at AEW every week.

As he walks to the back, Jon Moxley is on his way to the ring. We see Cassisy watching as Mox does his entrance.

Jon Moxley (AEW International Champion) vs AR Fox

Mox starts with brawling and Fox gets to show a dive onto Mox on the floor early on.  Mox cuts Fox off quickly. While Claudio is at the ring with Mox, Darby Allin and Nick Wayne are watching on a TV in the back. Fox gets a slight rally after the commercial break.  It’s strange that they put him in the ring with Mox, where he pretty much has to lose after his babyface turn.  Mox wins after the hammer and elbow elbows and a death rider for the pin and the win.

Winner and still International Champion: Jon Moxley

Odd choice for an opening match. After Mox leaves, Darby shows to shake Fox’s hand. The announcers put over that this is probably unsettling for Nick Wayne.

In the back, Christian Cage and Luchasaurus show up to talk to Nick Wayne. Cage insults Nicks’ dad and says he would be a better mentor that Darby.

Kris Statlander (TBS Champion) vs Emi Sakura

Sakura is shot out of a cannon as the match starts, hitting big moves and screaming as she wrestles. Emi is great, and she’s also a brawler, so her style matches well with Statlander’s new persona. Emi gets Statlander in a double underhook vertical hold and keeps her there a long time, which shows Emi’s strength. Stalander then starts revving up toward the finishing and hits Wednesday Night Fever for the pin and the win.

Winner and still TBS Champion: Kris Statlander

Emi is a good veteran, but we haven’t seen her win in a long time.  She needs to get some wins so that we think she has a chance when she’s on the screen.

We then get Roderick Strong talking about his childhood with The Kingdom, and he says he grew up alone and he will win the Grand Slam Tournament alone.

Don Callis comes to the ring with the Chord of Doom playing as he joins commentary.

Chris Jericho and Sammy Geuvara vs Aussie Open (Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher)

The story of this match is that Chris is looking to get back to the top of the ladder, this time as a tag team with Sammy, who is his only ally left. Jericho and Davis start off and neither gets an advantage. When Sammy tags in he and Fletcher work a faster style with more high flying stuff. Sammy and Jericho hold Fletcher up in a stalled vertical suplex for a LONG time before dropping him as we go into the picture in picture.

The crowd cheered this move, and when we come back to full screen, Jericho is working with Fletcher as Jericho transitions to his big moves. Sammy gets a big dive and Jericho rallies the crowd to cheer louder for him. Aussie Open then rallies and gets in their big moves on Jericho. Fletcher cuts off the Walls and we move into near falls.

The crowd comes alive for this match, since they were not all that into the first two matches of the show. Jericho runs into Sammy on the ap[ron, but Jericho finally hits the Judas Effect for the pin and the win.

Winners: Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara

After the match, Sammy is not happy about what has happened, and the announcers say there were a few incidents of friendly fire. Sammy and Jericho get into a shoving match and security shows and Sammy leaves through the crowd.

We get a strong promo from Ricky Starks about how he will not quit no matter what happened at All Out with Bryan Danielson.

They are shown when Samoa Joe shoved MJF out of his way at the pay per view, leading to them getting into it.

In the back, Don Callis and Takeshida are with Renee Paquette, and Don reuses the line he had when he joined commentary. He has another covered easel and we are told he will unveil the painting next week and they announce their next target.

MJF comes to the ring wearing two belts and with a microphone. He gets the cheap cheers and then tells us MJF has to wrestle again on September 20th, which is Grand Slam. He then says someone will have to taught a lesson, and the crowd chants for Samoa Joe.

And he arrives before MJF can name him.

Joe comes to the ring and MJF allows him his spotlight. Joe says he wanted a front row seat for what MJF was about to say, and then says “What seems to be the problem…kid.”

They throw barbs back and forth. MJF then throws a few insults Joe’s way. JOe throws one back and then calls MJF Kid again.

LOTS of R rated chants from the crowd during their promo.

MJF talks about how Regal blew him off. He then says there was a time he was going to be security for Samoa Joe for an entrance, but Joe shoved him into a brick wall and laughed. He says Joe did it because he could, but he can’t do it any more.  Lots of fire from MJF and he brings the crowd along for the entire promo.

Joe says there is one problem with his promo. He didn’t think of MJF as a kid. He thought MJF was a little b!tch.

MJF slaps Joe. Joe says he won’t take the bait so he doesn’t lose his chance at the title. Instead, he will win the tournament and beats him down.  And as MJF leaves the ring, Joe beats him down and holds the AEW Title up. MJF hits Joe with a low blow and stomps him down. Joe recovers and goes for a muscle buster, but Adam Cole shows to run Joe off.

As MJF is being helped to the back, Roderick Strong and The Kingdom get into a shouting match on the ramp. Roddy goes to the ring for his match and Cole goes to the back.

Roderick Strong and Trent Beretta in a Grand Slam Tournament match

Roddy takes off the Bobby Heenan neck brace for the match. They work a hold/counter hold style, and Roddy looks really good as they do. They have a sequence where Roddy is outside the ring selling his neck, and when Trent comes out, he is told to back off. When Trent goes back to the ring, Roddy recovers and shoves Trent into the ring post and then drops him on the apron before we go to picture in picture.

The Kingdom wearing shirts that say “Neck Strong” is pure gold.

Trent is mounting his comeback as we come back to full screen. When Roddy cuts him off, it’s time for near falls and Strong is showing no ring rust. He and Trent work smooth in this match. Roddy wins with a back breaker for the pin and the win.

Winner and moving on: Roderick Strong

The Kingdom comes into the ring and put the neck brace back on. We see the brackets for the tournament and we are getting two matches on Rampage for the tournament.

Next up is Toni Storm and Renee Paquette.  Toni says she can't’ remember what happened at All Out, and we need to look forward instead of looking back. Toni then says Renee is awfully nosy and next week, if she’s nice, she’ll share a part of her life with us.

And Toni throws a shoe from off screen.

This is my favorite thing going right now.

In the ring, Tony Schiavone is with Adam Page who says he flew in when he heard about the battle royal at All Out, flew in, won, and gave the money to an education fund. He then says he wants to talk about what he will do with the rest of the year.

This calls out The Embassy and Prince Nana does his dance to Swerve’s theme. Swerve comes to the ring, glaring at Page.  Prince Nana dismisses Tony. Swerve says after being in a coffin for two weeks, you get some clarity. He says he has been thinking about Page. He then says the charity Page did was a waste of time. He says that Page was on the pre-show and not in the main event, and if Page isn’t ashamed of that, he will be ashamed for him.

He then says AEW has built their success on his back, and Page doesn’t want it any more. He says Page was handed opportunities. He then tells Page to either ride out his contract so he can take Page’s place. Or, Page can cowboy up and show people what he is really all about.

He then mocks Page as Page walks to the back.  Page charges back to the ring to get into Swerve’s face, but Brian Cage shows and power bombs Adam Page.

Darby Allin vs Nick Wayne in a Grand Slam Tournament match

Both Nick and Darby are all taped up, and they work a fast style going into the picture in picture. We see Darby miss a dive as the screen shrinks, and Nick plays that he didn’t want that to happen to Darby as if he’s acting in a silent movie. When we return to full screen, both men are wrestling like the walking wounded, hitting a big move and then wincing in pain and taking time for the next move.

As they fight, Darby tells Nick he hits like an 18 year old and to act like he wants to win this match. Darby puts his hands behind his back and Nick hits a super kick for two.

This brings out Christian Cage and we go picture in picture, so the show will have another overrun.

We come back to Darby and Nick fighting on the apron, and Cage is at commentary. In the back, Roderick Strong and the Kingdom are watching as well. Wayne hits a Wayne’s World off the top onto Darby on the floor and rolls Darby into the ring for two. Darby sets up for the coffin drop, but can’t do it and covers Nick instead for two. Darby gets a series of two counts. Darby then gets a submission hold where he has Nick’s head down and arms behind his back. He stomps on Nick’s head  and Nick has to submit

Winner and moving on: Darby Allin
