WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN SUNDAY IN LONDON: THE AEW ALL IN TIP SHEET

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson, Cory Strode & Richard Trionfo on 2023-08-25 11:00:00

AEW All In: London takes place this Sunday.  Here is our take on what should happen!

Zero Hour: ROH Tag Team Champions Aussie Open vs. AEW Champion MJF & Adam Cole.

Cory: This is a storyline match and not a “who is going to win” match, because Aussie Open is going to keep the titles.  The question is, how will it end.  My guess is that they will bookend the tag team title match they had with FTR by having Adam Cole cost them the match, and him being upset about it and MJF telling him it is OK to build for the main event.

Dave: The only reason to add this is for storyline purposes.  Knowing Tony, he will have Cole and MJF win, then when Cole turns heel on MJF in the main event, they will have to be a team even though they hate each other.  Suffice to say, that is not what I would do.

Richard:  I was almost hoping that The Hardys would have won the titles on Wednesday night (with help from Max and BFF Bay Bay) so they would have a better chance of winning on Sunday, but thankfully that didn't happen.  Aussie Open is a very good tag team that somehow runs under the radar of some.  They will prove how good they are but for some reason I think there is a better than 50% chance that we see new champions because there will probably be tension between them after their main event.  I will fight that compulsion and Roddy (with his neck brace) and friends will cost Cole the titles.

Mike: I don't like this match taking place as if they are going to full a full-on AEW style, that leaves the potential for injury wide open and Adam Cole has gotten hurt numerous times on big shows.  So, given the storyline-driven nature of the story, I wonder of MJF and Cole are going to swerve Aussie Open and instead The Kingdom faces them.  If not, they'll win the title themselves.

Stadium Stampede: Eddie Kingston & Penta El Zero Miedo & AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy & Best Friends vs. Blackpool Combat Club's Jon Moxley & ROH Champion Claudio Castagnoli &  Wheeler Yuta & Santana & Ortiz

Cory: “There will be Blood”. The Blackpool Combat Club has been winning every encounter with the Luchas, the Best Friends, and everyone else. Are they going to lose in England, which happens to be where Blackpool is?  They should to end the feud, and Eddie can get his final victory over Claudio, but since we don’t know who the BBC’s three other members are, I am going to go out on a limb and say that the BCC will win yet again, simply because they are being shown to be unbeatable.

Dave: I remember the classic line from Slapshot where one of the Hanson Brothers, talking about Dave "Killer" Carlson, said, after a hockey brawl, "Dave's a killer."  One of the saner players countered, "Dave's a mess".  That's what I expect here.  I don't see this being fun like the first Stampede given that Grim Bleeder Moxley is involved.  I hope I am wrong.  I hope the BCC loses when Eddie pins Claudio.

Richard:  With Dave mentioning Slap Shot, I almost want to discuss that more than this match.  They found a way to get Fenix out of the match and I was not completely surprised that Santana and Ortiz were added to the match because it makes sense to put someone else in the match who doesn't like Eddie or the other guys on his team.  Santana looks like he spent 80% of the time rehabbing in the gym.  Moxley and Cassidy will probably be doing a lot together in this match if they go in that direction for All Out next week.  Keep this match shorter than it has to be.  The momentum for the BCC seems to have waned a bit, but I think adding Santana and Ortiz to the team will be enough to give them the victory.

Mike: I expect lots of cameos here, at least from Trent Beretta's mom.  I also expect Santana and Ortiz are going to go all out given this is their biggest moment in a long, long time.  This is going to be a lot of blood and brawling, so if you don't like it, you knew what they were promising going in.  Live, the crowd will go nuts for this as they always do.  If I am AEW, I pre-tape a bunch of stuff backstage and then have them come out for the big climax.  I don't see Kingston and Cassidy losing here and if it was me, it's Eddie pinning Claudio to set up a title match at Grand Slam in NYC.

Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi & Adam Page vs. Juice Robinson & Jay White & Konosuke Takeshita with Don Callis.

Cory: The storylines Omega and Page are involved in are usually much longer than just a match or two, so Kenny, Ibushi, and Page need to lose so that Kenny can keep chasing Don Callis. The only person on Callis’ team that has current storyline issues with Omega is Takeshita, and the Bullet Club is still being built into a top act, so Kenny and his team will lose.

Dave: The Kenny overacting on last week's Dynamite was truly horrible.  I felt so bad for Jim Ross that he had to be a part of it.  My guess is that give the size of the crowd, they will let the faces go over here.

Richard:  One of the teams in this match has momentum and the other has Kenny Omega in it.  The brawl on this week's show did something to add a little to the match but it would have been nice if Ibushi was there.  Takeshita will be a star, but when he gets rid of the other Canadian guy who gloms onto any popular act.  Juice, Jay, and Konosuke should win the match but I can see a Buckshot Lariat and Golden Trigger to give Kenny and friends the win.

Mike: On paper, this can be very good. The right finish is Takeshita pinning Omega to set up the big singles match at All Out.  Will they do that?  I don't know.  It seems to me this may be about the big AEW names getting happy moments to make the crowd happy.

Will Ospreay vs. Chris Jericho.

Cory: This feud is one of lost opportunities. I said on last week's audio that if they took 6 weeks to build this, it would be something we cared about. Because they powered through a month’s worth of stories in 5 minutes, and Will Ospreay has no issue with Jericho AT ALL. Jericho winning this match does no one any good at all,so normally I would say he will win because of that. However, since Ospreay is a big name in New Japan, I don’t think they want him losing to Jericho.  Ospreay wins.

Dave: Speaking of horrible things from last week's Dynamite, man the Chris Jericho angle with Don Callis, wow epic awful.  If that was an attempt to turn Jericho face, they totally blew it.  If it's me, I have Ospreay win.

Richard:  My biggest fear about this match is that Jericho beats Ospreay and that causes the anticipated Ospreay/Omega III match for Wrestle Kingdom to become a Triple Threat Match for the NJPW UK title.   I hope Jericho cares as much about this match as he does about his attempt to be Freddie Mercury at Live Aid by performing his entrance music.  Ospreay should win and do so convincingly to send Jericho on tour.

Mike: Chris Jericho gets zero out of beating Ospreay.  His moment is singing his song live.  I don't even feel outside talents should be on this show, but Ospreay means a lot to the UK fans.  He should win here to set up future rematches and take his place as the top UK talent of the current era, enjoying the moment.  They should do the old Ron Garvin-JJ Dillon deal where Callis pays Ospreay a ton of money so we find out he was a bounty hunter for Callis all along.

Sting & Darby Allin vs. Swerve Strickland & Christian Cage with Prince Nana- Coffin Match.

Cory: Sting is not losing in front of 80,000 fans.

Dave: What Cory said.

Richard:  With Strickland's recent history of 'partners', does Christian really want to work with him?  Who am I kidding, Christian is as much of a jerk as Swerve has been.  Sting losing is about as unlikely to happen as a wrestler in AEW selling a dangerous move (Nick Wayne was booked like he was Wolverine on Wednesday night the way he kicked out of everything)

Mike: I hope we get to see lots of Prince Nana dancing.  My guess is Swerve is going in the coffin.  You know Darby is going to go all out nuts with big moves here.

AEW Trios Champions The House of Black versus The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn

Cory: The House of Black has been dominating every team they face, but Billy Gunn has done a LOT of AEW since the first All In. They have given him a solid story for revenge, and while The Acclaimed have lost a kit of their shine in the last few months, giving Billy Gunn his title win in front of a monster crowd is the only way this story can end.

Dave: If you bring back Billy, you do it to win the Titles.  I hope Tony resists the urge to do a senseless turn.

Richard:  I guess someone is motivated by Mick Foley because you knew that a 'wrestling retirement' was not going to be adhered to.  It would be a good moment to have Billy win a title in front of more than 80 thousand people.  They don't need the titles for long, but do these titles mean any more than the 100 other titles in AEW?

Mike: The Gunn stuff would have worked much more if he was retired for say, 3-6 months, but AEW runs on ludicrious speed sometimes.  The Acclaimed should be the top act in the company in my mind and they should win here.

AEW Women's Champion Hikaru Shida vs. Toni Storm vs. Saraya vs. Britt Baker.

Cory: I am of two minds on this.  First, I can see Saraya winning the title in England in front of the biggest crowd of her life. I can also see Shida being given that big win as a thank you for carrying the title during the pandemic era. If it were ME, I’d have Saraya turn on Toni Storm (whose new character is AWESOME) so they can feud. In a lot of ways, it is a coin flip, but I am going to say they give the win to Saraya as the hometown girl.

Dave: I will say what I always say, the champ should not lose the Title in a four way.  Hopefully Storm and Saraya get in each other's way and Shida retains.

Richard:  Does Saraya win in her home country?  Will Saraya and Toni cost each other the title since they will put their personal success over group success?  Is Britt Baker still content being on the outside looking in at the Women's Title?  I don't think it is time to take the title off Shida.  I think Shida beats Saraya just so people are shocked that Tony had a 'home town' wrestler lose.

Mike: I don't see them not having Saraya win here.  Do that and then have her drop it to Britt in Chicago.  I'm not big on playing hot potato but this is the right place and moment for a big "moment" for Saraya.  Her run here hasn't really clicked but if you are going to do something with her, this is the time and place.

AEW Tag Team Champions FTR vs. The Young Bucks

Cory: The Bucks have shown they have no problem putting people over. They let the BCC dominate in their feud, and they have not bulldozed the tag team ranks, preferring to do the Young Bucks show with teams they like to work with. FTR has also been knocking it out of the park in their matches since getting the title. FTR will get a good match out of the Bucks and keep the titles.

Dave: Before Cash Wheeler's arrest, I would have said FTR with no hesitation.  I still say FTR should win.  They are hot.  As the viewing patterns show, The Bucks or not.  Maybe if they put over FTR they can win back some of the people who have turned on them.

Richard:  This is an interesting match when you look at the two teams and maybe even try to overanalyze who has Tony's ear.  If FTR retains, does that mean that Collision Man Phil is Tony's favorite?  Will they look past the legal issues for Cash (considering they booked stuff after he had filed a response).  FTR has had some of the best matches of the Collision era and they have produced good numbers.  I see FTR retaining.

Mike: This should be about FTR winning, but if they go the other way and get the belts off Cash and Dax because of the legal stuff, I'd understand that.  I predict this will be the best Bucks match in some time.

AEW "Real" World Champion CM Punk vs. ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe.

Cory: They will tear the house down, and CM Punk keeps the title so they can build toward unifying the titles.

Dave: This should be great and Punk should get the win.  He's the star of Collision.

Richard:  While they had a decent match recently, I think too many people are hoping for a repeat of what we saw almost 20 years ago.  This will probably be shorter than their Collision match but the crowd will enjoy this match.  Punk should win so his claim to be the 'real' champion.  Do we get him versus the winner of Cole/MJF at All Out or do they save it for Full Gear?

Mike: This should open the show, because 80K singing Punk's song sounds like a hell of a way to open things.  Out of everything on the show, this is the match I am looking forward to the most, given how much I loved their ROH trilogy.  But, they are older and I don't expect them to go 60 minutes.  I just hope for a good, intense brawl.  In the end, I'd like to see Joe choke out Punk since he's the ROH TV Champion and all, but I don't know that's going to matter.  So, I suspect Punk wins.

AEW Champion MJF vs. Adam Cole.

Cory: I have had a theory about this match since they started the “MJF and Cole are friends”.story.  EVERY time someone tells Cole about how MJF will betray him, Cole has told them to trust him, he has it all under control.  MJF has tapped back into the character of the bullied kid who doesn’t trust anyone he has used off and on. The crowd LOVES cheering for MJF, and the only other big feud he could have as a heel at this point is CM Punk. As much as Punk vs MJF at All Out has massive appeal to me, I think the seeds have all been planted and Cole will turn on MJF, beat him, and form a new faction with Roderick Strong and The Kingdom by his side.  The best thing about this main event is that they could do something completely different, and it could work as well.  This is the stuff Tony Khan needs to be doing, taking TIME on his stories, letting the changes sink in so that the audience can tell you what they think, and leave options so that it doesn’t feel like there is only way to go with things.  Just think about how, this story is the longest one going for this show, and it’s the one people are invested in the most.

Dave: Like I said above, I expect Cole to turn on MJF and honestly, that would be what I would do.  He has told Roddy Strong all along that he has it under control.  The fans want to cheer MJF so let them.  He is the face who got screwed because he trusted someone.  Now he can be the angry guy looking for revenge and getting his Title back.  Note I said angry, like a Steve Austin, not a heel.

Richard:  Is the real story of this match Cole and MJF or is it what will Roderick Strong (and maybe The Kingdom) do in this match?  This is the biggest story on Wednesday nights.  I think they will use some of the things in the trust building segments for this match.  Will one of them call for the DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE and then realize it was a singles match?  I think MJF retains and he does it with the KANGAROO KICK.

Mike: At some point, Cole will do something underhanded and it will be MJF shocked that he of all people was suckered in after all the things he's pulled for everyone.  At this point, they go to war.  If Roderick Strong appears, I could see them doing the interference deal to set up a title change and big MJF babyface turn, but to me, MJF should win here.
