CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING FROM MEMPHIS TO PREMIERE ON WMC-TV'S ACTION NEWS PLUS SEPTEMBER 1st

By Mike Johnson on 2023-08-22 09:03:00

Championship Wrestling from Memphis will be moving, but it will be to a very familiar place for long-time Memphis area professional wrestling fans.

The promotion's weekly TV series will premiere on WMC-TV's Action News Plus digital channel on Friday 9/1 at 11 PM local time followed by a Saturday 12 Noon replay.  This renews a relationship between the WMC family and professional wrestling, one that started back in 1949 with bouts taped at the now-defunct Ellis Auditorium.  The WMC-TV Studios themselves were the home for decades for a live 90 minute broadcast every Saturday designed to pump up Mid-South Coliseum events.  In their heyday, those broadcasts would pretty much mean the entire city of Memphis bunkered down to watch.

The new series will be taped at the Memphis WrestleCenter, where CWM operates a training academy lead by former USWA Champion King Cobra and regularly holds TV tapings.

Championship Wrestling from Memphis owner, promoter and announcer Dustin Starr and I will be sitting down tomorrow to discuss the move and more for Elite subscribers.
