COMPLETE AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2023-08-09 20:16:00

It is Wednesday and this week, AEW Dynamite is at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH. The commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz.

The Jericho Appreciation Society is in the ring and Matt Menard calls Jericho out for their Family Meeting so that he gets the sing along. Chris starts going on and on about how he is their friend and Daniel Garcia cuts him off and says that last week Jericho took advantage when he was hit by a baseball bat last week. He then says he changed who he was for Jericho and why can’t Jericho choose him. Garcia says he can’t do this any more and leaves.

Jake Hager is next. He says if they have to cut tires, he has a lot of options. He says he doesn't appreciate Jericho and leaves.

Jericho says that their careers are better since they joined him.

Tay Melo says she is no longer proud of being in a group with him and she will go have her baby and come back next year to be a champion without him. And she quits.

Anna Jay says that maybe she helped them, but he helped himself more. Tonight is about winning the Women’s World Championship and it’s not about appreciating him.

Angelo Parker loves being a sports entertainer and he has given him everything. But Jericho has given him nothing. He doesn't want to do this but has no choice and has nothing left to give Jericho.

Matt Menard says Jericho was his childhood hero. He talks about how Jericho helped him get a job when he had nothing. But it never sat right with him why people who came up with him hated Jericho’s guts, and now he does.

Sammy Guevara is the only one left and he knocks the mic out of Jericho's hand. He says that he won’t walk out on Jericho because he was his friend. He then says Jericho has a lot fo stuff to work out and when he does, maybe he’ll be here.

Jericho is now a man who stands alone as we go to break. I like that they gave reason sfor breaking up that have been shown, and each member underlined their reasons why for the faction to be done.

As Jericho does the sad Charlie Brown walk in the back, Don Callis shows up. Jericho says he has made up his mind and he will announce it next week!

The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) vs The Hardys (Matt and Jeff Hardy)

Weird that the Bucks came out along and the Hardys came out with Brother Zay and Ethan Page. Berandon Cutler comes to the ring when no one is looking, however.

In a lot of ways, I see the Hardys as who the Bucks could become if they learned how to do more than just spotfests, since the Hardys became famous as spot monkeys (as Matt Hardy calls them) in their early days. The Hardys lead the match to start with, and as we move toward the commercial break, the Bucks start with their big spots.

When we come back, Matt gets the hot tag, and we get Jeff Hardy and Nick Jackson, and they worked well together now as much as they did at the start of the match. When they are done with their section of the match it pretty much is all four men in the ring for the rest of the match. Rick Knox is just there to count the pin, I guess.  The Bucks hit the BTE trigger for the pin and the win.

Winners: The Young Bucks

These two teams have had blow out matches in the past, but this was a toned down TV match. It ends with handshakes all around.

Matt Jackson grabs a mic and calls out FTR who show as he says their name. All four men face off in the ring and have words. Matt says All In and FTR hold up the belts.

And we get another tournament to see who will \be in a four way match for the Women's title at All In. I hate four way matches.  The tournament is a good way to build the match, I guess, but I am one of the few people who likes tournaments. So there’s me, Tony Khan, and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

We then get a video of Adam Cole and MJF celebrating that they will be the main event at All In.  Cole says they will be going to a Trampoline park instead of going out with some…um…ladies who like wrestlers.  MJF is bored until he finds out they have dodgeball. MJF then takes out ALL of the kids playing dodgeball.

Cole tells MJF he can’t do that to kids until a little girl calls them nerds for being at the park, and then flips them off.  Then, Cole is fine with MJF taking her out.

We then get a video from the Blackpool Combat Club saying the Best Friends should have learned their lesson now, and they will take out the Lucha Brothers. They also claim that they took out Pac for turning on them.

Jack Perry (FTW Champion) vs Rob Van Dam  - FTW rules

Perry attacks RVD before the bell, and it doesn’t take long before they are fighting on the floor. Perry stalls and tries to attack from behind, but whenever it’s a straight up match, RVD dominates. When we come back from the commercial, we’ve got chairs and a table involved in the match. RVD breaks out the greatest hits, but looks winded as the match goes on.

Time comes for us all, man.

We get a chair thrown at the ref and he’s out. There is a sign in the crowd that says “If Perry Wins We Boo.”

Perry gets put through the table and then RVD hits the frog splash and covers for the crowd to chant ten. Another ref runs from the back to count two. Perry hits a low blow, rams RVD into a chair in the corner and rolls him up while holding the tights for the pin and the win.

Winner and still FTW champion: Jack Perry

A ref bump in a FTW rules match so that RVD can get a pin that doesn’t count and Perry can cheat anyway.  I get why they did it, but the ref bump seemed lazy to me for some reason.  Still, nice to see RVD.

Renee Paquette is with the Lucha Brothers for their interview. They talk about how they fight in the spirit of competition, but the Blackpool Combat Combat Club fights to hurt people.

MJF and Adam Cole come out to the ring.

MJF says the footage of him saying the midwest is Mid is highly edited and fake. He then says God should strike him down if he doesn't think the Midwest is the best place in the USA.  And no lightning strikes.

Cole starts to talk about the match at All In, and MJF says he must want to do a promo battle and he throws out a few insults (including a gratuitous Hulk Hogan slam) before Cole stops him. Cole says they should go All In on making history. He says they should have the Ring Of Honor tag team title and he owes his career to Ring of Honor.

He then says they should challenge for the Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions at Zero Hour before All In. MJF agrees even though he thinks wrestling twice in one night is perverted.

Roderick Strong, still in Bobby Heenan’s neck brace, comes out to complain that he wants to go for the ROH Titlers with MJF instead of him.  MJF tells him to go home, go to bed, cry into his pillow, and listen to Taylor Swift.

The crowd has turned on Strong and he asks if Cole will just let MJF talk to him like that.  Strong says that The Kingdom was right about Cole and leaves. The Kingdom show to console Strong and help him go backstage. Cole is NOT happy with MJF and they have words. MJF tells Cole to check on Strong after they hug.

The Lucha Bros (Rey Fenix and Penta) vs the Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli)

The Bros attack BCC from behind before the bell. As the match moves forward, the Bros are just tossed around and beaten down by the BCC.  We even have Yuta nailed Fenix with a belt when the ref isn’t looking.  When we come back from the commercial, Fenix has a GREAT move dodging the doomsday machine while on Claudio’s back. That’s about all he gets, though, as the BCC take over again and cut off the Bros every time to get an offensive move in.

It’s strange how the Bros are being treated like an enhancement team in this match, other than the match going for about fifteen minutes. We get a long sequence of Penta and Mox throwing hands in the middle of the ring and then Penta hits an assisted stalling pile driver for two. Fenix hits a moonsault onto Yuta on the floor who was attacking Alex.  This allowed Mox to tear off Penta’s mask, and rolls him up for the pin and win with a handful of tights.

Winners: Blackpool Combat Club

The BCC beat down the Bros after the match and they mock Penta by taking hsi mask after they leave through the crowd.

Kenny Omega is backstage and is asked what he will be doing at All In and he says he will be sitting down with Jim Ross next week to talk about it.

Swerve Strickland with the Mogul Embassy comes to the ring. Prince Nana has the mic and the crowd is quiet until he tells them to shut up.  Swerve says this is their year and there is no authority over them. They are above the law. AR Fox then calls Darby Allin out to the ring.

Darby comes out and says he called Fox and Fox never picked up the phone. He says Fox had his demons and he had to go. But Fox made it to AEW on his own. He will always credit Fox for changing his life, and while Fox has some new friends, he has friends too.

The lights go out.

When the lights come up, Sting is in the ring and Fox is down. Sting cleans house and then goes after Swerve with his bat. Sting points at the All In sign and Swerve bails.

Kind of a slow slow in a lot of ways.

Hikaru Shida (AEW Women’s Champion) vs Anna Jay

Once again, the women get the main event.  Anna Jay comes to the ring with Matt Menard and Anglo Parker.

They have a solid opening sequence where the match feels 50/50 and the announcers go over their history and how Anna has been improving since her first match in AEW with Shida. Anna is in control through the picture in picture. Shida fires up as we return to full screen.

Parker and Menard stop Shida from doing her leap off a chain on the floor, which allows Anna to get the upper hand. Anna gets Shida in the queenslayer for a long time before Shida gets to the ropes. Anna locks it on again and Shida climbs the ropes to drop onto her back to break the hold. Shida hits the Katana knee, and Parker tries to pull Anna to the ropes, but it doesn’t work and Shida gets the pin and the win.

Winner and still AEW Women’s Champion: Hikaru Shida.
