TONY KHAN ON AEW'S NYC RETURN

Last week I spoke with AEW President Tony Khan about a number of topics, including the promotion's Wednesday 9/20 return to NYC for Grand Slam III at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

On the return, Khan commented:

"That's really important to us. I'm very much excited about coming back to New York. As far as our TV shows, that's our biggest week of TV all year and that's how wrestling works. People in the world of professional sports are always stunned when I explain to them there's no off season. And I work with people in the biggest sporting leagues in the world, whether I'm talking to the directors of the top Premier League clubs or top NFL teams or the league offices. Whenever I see and visit with people, I get asked about AEW and the schedule, and people are blown away that we do this 52 weeks a year, but that's pro wrestling. It's supposed to keep building and building and feeding and one great show can lead into the next. Certainly what we do at Wembley Stadium is the biggest thing we've ever done, but we're going to keep building and trying to grow that momentum after that. And we'll go into New York City and I want Grand Slam to be our best grand slam show yet. I'm really excited about it.

We have a great opportunity there and I'm very proud of the relationship we built with the USTA and the fans in New York to make Grand Slam a reality. Because it was one of those things when I first stumbled onto the idea and I came up with the thought of wrestling in Arthur Ashe Stadium, I was stunned. Nobody had done it before and I wondered if it was because they were opposed to the idea and it was quite the opposite. It was something they wanted to do and they were very into the idea. So I felt very fortunate that we've been able to build this relationship and we've been the first to do pro wrestling in Arthur Ashe Stadium, which is one of the true iconic sports venues in America and the world."
