As PWInsider.com wrote about last week, tweets from Indie Pro Wrestling Hall of Famer Lufisto cryptically seemed to reference a previous tryout bout at AEW and how she felt she was blackballed from being hired by the company. This led some on Twitter to feel she was writing about Britt Baker, which she never did, but sources still felt that it should be noted that LuFisto was not speaking about the former AEW Women’s Champion.
Well, today, the chaos continued, but this time, there was zero doubt that LuFisto was taking aim at AEW talents, tweeting the following:
Had a one hour phone call with a current AEW talent.
— LuFisto (@LuFisto) August 4, 2023
The women who actually addressed the problems I did today were the ones sent home by Tony Khan.
There was a meeting to shoot on Thunder Rosa that Khan attended. Before leaving, he reminded them that...
... their segments were the lowest.
— LuFisto (@LuFisto) August 4, 2023
When some girls arranged a meeting to talk about Baker’s crew, one of them ran to Britt to let her know. The girls that wanted to address the problem were the ones punished.
Things didn’t better. They got worst...
The legitimate wrestlers believe Tony doesn’t give a damn about women’s wrestling and feel like they are going back to the Divas era.
— LuFisto (@LuFisto) August 4, 2023
Ask me who the fuck am I. Tell me I’m irrelevant and that I’m doing this for attention. Call me a liar. Tell me to kill myself...
You keep on closing your eyes and supporting human beings with shitty behaviour.

With the messages of support and especially this phone call I received from AEW employees…
This nobody did the right thing. pic.twitter.com/xD3E2KA8LY
Sources close to the situation tell PWInsider that the meeting Lufisto referenced was actually requested by Thunder Rosa and involved the women’s locker room and took place months ago. The meeting came across positive, with Thunder and various others sharing and addressing any concerns. In the end, everyone agreed to move forward and focus on the future. There had been issues among Rosa and several others at the time, but they all opted to try and resolve it by bringing it all out in an open discussion.
The timing of the tweets with claims that Tony Khan doesn't care about women's wrestling seems to be mis-aimed as Hikaru Shida vs. Toni Storm headlined the AEW Dynamite 200 broadcast. If Khan (or any other promoter) didn't care about it, they could easily just not book it.
Over the course of the day today, a number of AEW stars all took aim at LuFisto's comments, firing back at her, but not directly by name, leading a number of readers asking us what was being referenced in a number of these tweets:
My only statement. pic.twitter.com/Jf9s7A9GzV

If you listen to miserable people who never made it in this sport that’s not exactly the brightest thing to do.

Use your brain.
If someone’s been in professional wrestling for over a decade and you find them to be talented but they’ve never truly “panned out” there’s a reason…
We have an incredible women’s division that all look out for and support each other. I’ve never seen it be anything other than a safe space for a bunch of kick ass women that all want to see each other and all of @aew shine to their full potential. Women hating women is a real…

The narrative going around is very disheartening considering someone says they want the best for women’s wrestling but buries it in a number of tweets.. I will say being in this company close to a year, my favourite part is being with the girls in the lockerroom. They uplift,…

Every Wednesday I leave my daughter and husband and get on a plane. Every Wednesday I fly somewhere hundreds of miles away from my dad who is battling stage 4 cancer. And every Wednesday I walk into a locker room of women who motivate, uplift and genuinely enjoy one another! ????????????
— Madison Rayne (@MadisonRayne) August 4, 2023
This narrative that all the AEW women hate each other is quite frankly annoying. I’ve been there for 5 mths & every1, from the 2nd I walked in that building, has been nothing but supportive, hyping each other up & bad ass. Stop pinning women against each other it’s getting old.

All of this ????????????????????
— TAYNARA MELO GUEVARA (@taymelo) August 4, 2023
I never saw a group like ours, it makes me mad that people try to say shit they don’t know anything about it !!!!
Keep talking bc we will keep working hard and shining!!! https://t.co/kTguTbBT7o

One person’s PERSONAL experience is NOT

a) the gospel truth
B) facts
C) anything but one perspective influenced by PERSONAL experience and interaction
I’m sad, hurt, annoyed, angry, and honestly a little betrayed.. funny thing is it’s not by a single woman in our locker room??????????
And why is that? Because what you read on twitter must be true? I love AEW and I love our women’s locker room. https://t.co/dpACbLit8z
— Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. (@RealBrittBaker) August 4, 2023
False. Thunder called the meeting to discuss multiple/personal issues. There was no meeting to “shoot on” her - these are salacious Twitter rumors. I’m sure when she’s ready she can help clarify. https://t.co/fgrXwKmciZ

As one of the newest women in the @AEW roster , I have been welcomed , encouraged , inspired by my entire locker room -and the entire company. I love going to work every week.

In response, Lufisto tweeted:
Good that everybody at @aew got the memo to write as much shit on me as possible so I can be in seen as a waste of a human being not worth livin, even people who never had a single conversation with me.
— LuFisto (@LuFisto) August 4, 2023
Even better to see people I never did anything wrong being so desperate...
... to get a job, jumping on the bandwagon.
— LuFisto (@LuFisto) August 4, 2023
Soon, I'll see you hypocrites be part of Be a Star and mental health matters advertisements acting like you care.
Enjoy your paychecks and keep on stabbing each other in the back pretending this is normal.
I can only hope that...
... your hate towards me will get you to finally fucking work together for the best of women's wrestling, now that problems have been called out.
— LuFisto (@LuFisto) August 4, 2023
So many are miserable, frustrated and will whisper their anger, but never will stand and speak up.
I wanted to leave this world...
... knowing women's wrestling was better. It was for a while, but not anymore. The sad part is that you accept it without saying a word.
— LuFisto (@LuFisto) August 4, 2023
It is what it is.
What a waste.
One can only wonder if AEW talents will decide to fire back yet again.
I have been asked by several readers why I thought LuFisto was coming out publicly about all this. I can’t speak to her mindset, but I have had a number of people who work for WWE question to me why she would do this, given it gives off the appearance of someone who’s creating controversy and that could prevent others from wanting to book her. My feeling is that at 43 years old, Lufisto is perhaps at the point in her life where perhaps she doesn’t care if she scorches the Earth, even if it could burn back on her as well. She’s obviously not going to get an AEW gig at this point (especially after all this) and perhaps she doesn’t care, but what she has done is created a bunch of chaos online. If she can use it to her advantage, well, that’s a game well played but I don’t know what the endgame is here.
Only Lufisto can state what that might be, but I don't see it getting her a gig in WWE, Impact Wrestling, etc. out of this so perhaps she wants to just use it to level up her status on the independent circuit. Perhaps she feels maligned and wants her pound of flesh. My feeling is that incidents like this usually don't lead to positive moves forwards, just apologies later on. We will see if that's the case here - and no, none of this is a work.
