CBS will premiere reality series Buddy Games on Thursday 9/14 at 9 PM EST.
The series is based on WWE Studios' 2020 film The Buddy Games, which starred Josh Duhamel and featured WWE star Sheamus is a supporting role.
The original film featured the following plot: "A group of friends reunite to play The Buddy Games, a wild assortment of absurd physical and mental challenges. In the process, they'll heal old wounds, right past wrongs and figure out the true meaning of friendship...or die trying." It came out during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, hampering its money-making abilities.
The film was loosely based on Duhamel's real life group of friends. He appeared on the June 26, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw when the project was officially announced.
A sequel to the film had previously been announced without WWE's involvement.
“Being able to bring Buddy Games to CBS is truly a dream come true for me,” Duhamel told Deadline.com several months ago. “This is something my buddies and I have wanted to share with the world for a long time as we knew there was a relatability to it with other people doing similar things to strengthen their friendships. For me, getting to executive produce and host Buddy Games while observing these groups of friends let loose and become part of this big family has been an honor and will be a lot of fun for viewers to watch.”
The CBS series will feature Duhamel appearing as host. WWE was not mentioned in any of the publicity material for the film.
