One of the major questions we have been asked in recent weeks is why LA Knight has not been featured more prominently.
WWE sources indicate this is all by plan and that Knight's standing with the company is held extremely high by executives. Internally, he's been praised for getting himself over and breaking the mold of what was given to him creatively and being an even stronger character than was once envisioned for him on the main roster. One person we've spoken with even compared his Max Dupri run to Steve Austin as the Ringmaster in terms of lighting a fire under Knight to over-excel. Dave Scherer made the same Ringmaster-Dupri comparison on The We Don't Need No Stinkin' Name Show earlier this week, which is streaming now for Elite subscribers.
PWInsider.com is also told that while there are plans for Knight in the near future, the company wants to line the timing right before they pull the trigger. We are told that recent merchandise sales numbers have been used as evidence that Knight is on the rise, as have pops in non-televised segments, including a recent dark segment on a Smackdown taping in Madison Square Garden.
We are told that the company has him in sight for a push and are just waiting for "the right moment in time" to hit the ground running. Until then, he had been specifically used in a way that wouldn't waste his appearances.
Knight is slated for this Saturday's Summerslam Battle Royal.
