7/30 NJPW G1 CLIMAX RESULTS FROM AICHI, JAPAN

7/30/23 Results from the G1 Climax 33 From Aichi, Japan:

1 - HENARE vs. David Finlay

Finlay pins HENARE after hitting Into Oblivion.

Good match.  No excessive cheating by Gedo or Finlay.

2 - Toru Yano vs. Jeff Cobb

Yano sprays Cobb in the eyes with his spray bottle.  

Yano pins Cobb with an inside cradle.

3 - Mikey Nicholls vs. Eddie Kingston

Kingston hits a spinning back fist and pins Nicholls.

Good stiff match.

4-  Tetsuya Naito vs. Alex Coughlin

Naito pins Coughlin after a Destino.

5 - Tomohiro Ishii vs. EVIL

Dick Togo hits a low blow and EVIL follows with Everything is Evil.

EVIL pins Ishii.

6 - Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Shane Haste

ZSJ pins Haste with the European Clutch.

Fun match between TMDK teammates. 

7 - Tama Tonga vs. Shingo Takagi

First time singles match between Takagi and Tama.  

Both fight to a draw.

Good match.  They kept kicking out of each other’s finishers.  Their future matches should be awesome.

8 - Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Hirooki Goto

Tanahashi pins Goto after a High Fly Flow.

As Tanahashi was coming to the ring, you could see him walking slowly and tentatively.   His age is showing.   Goto was also suffering a reported rib injury and had his abdomen taped up.  The match moved at a much slower pace due to these factors.

Tanahashi, if he is not ready to retire, should think of an Undertaker-style schedule, with only a handful of matches a year.   Which means no more G1.   The High Fly Flow takes too much out of his knees.  Then he plays the air guitar and jumps in the air and falls to the mat grasping his knees.   The crowd appreciates his charisma but it is risky for a career ending injury.
