7/23 NJPW G1 CLIMAX RESULTS FROM NAGANO, JAPAN

7/23/23 Results from New Japan's G1 Climax 33 from Nagano, Japan: 

1 - Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Alex Coughlin

Coughlin used his power to counter some of ZSJ’s tech style.  Coughlin can only get better from being in the ring with ZSJ.

ZSJ gets a submission win with a cross arm breaker.

2 - Tama Tonga vs. Mikey Nicholls

Tama catches Nicholls in a Gun Stun after Nicholls tried for a moonsault.    Tama hits another Gun Stun for good measure.

Tama pins Nicholls

3 - Hirooki Goto vs. Shane Haste

Haste started fast, going after Goto’s ribs which he hurt against Naito a few nights ago.   Goto grabs a sleeper and transitions to a crucifix pin.

Goto pins Haste.

4 - HENARE vs. Eddie Kingston

This was a stiff slugfest.   Good match. They traded strikes.   Kingston hurt his right arm.  HENARE hit a super kick.  Kingston hit a spinning back hand.  HENARE with a headbutt. Kingston with another stiff spinning back hand which dropped HENARE.   Kingston falls barely conscious on HENARE.

I am happy for Eddie Kingston and his progress in the G1.  He is in a tough block with heavy hitters, but he putting together good matches.  

5 - Toru Yano vs. Tetsuya Naito

Lots of comedy spots.   

Naito pins Yano with a Victory Roll Cradle.

6 - Tomohiro Ishii vs. Shingo Takagi

 Another brutal stiff match.   This goes 18 minutes.

Takagi pins Ishii after a wicked Pumping Bomber.

7 - Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Jeff Cobb

 Cobb hits his own Slingblade and a Tour of the Islands.

Cobb pins Tanahashi 

Good match.   They are building up Cobb to be a monster again.  Both he and Zack Sabre Jr are undefeated in the D Block.

8 - David Finlay vs. EVIL

The entire House of Torture comes to the ring with EVIL.  Gabe Kidd and Gedo accompanied Finlay.

Four referees come to the ring.  All four referees take bumps.  Complete chaos.  Finlay blocked EVIL’s attack and hit him with the NEVER Openweight Belt.   Finlay hit Into Oblivion.

Finlay pins EVIL

Finlay takes the top spot in the C Block after his win.

Zack Sabre Jr and Jeff Cobb are tired for the lead in D Block.
