AEW President and Tony Khan took part in a media call today to promote tomorrow's Blood and Guts edition of Dynamite and Friday's ROH Death Before Dishonor:
On the idea that there might have been a Blood and Guts match with women's competitors this year, Khan said there was some momentum for it at one point with Jamie Hayter as the AEW Women's Champ but injuries to the division curtailed it. Khan said the match would remain a TV attraction when asked about it graduating to its own PPV. Obviously, that could change down the line.
Khan said details on where All In: London will air will be released in "due time" but that the show will air live in Primetime in the UK and in the afternoon in the Eastern United States. He noted traditionally those events have aired on Bleacher Report but didn't state that specifically. The card will come together soon. He praised AEW as the industry leader in the UK.
On the banned moves document, Khan confirmed what we reported, that a version of it has always existed. He didn't want to comment on detail but referred to it as a reference guide for referees and talents. It's more or less a case by case basis he implied - if Kenny Omega asked about doing a big move that might otherwise not be cleared, it would carry more weight than a younger talent - which to be fair, is how it should be.
On adding more PPVs, Khan said they have spoken with Warner Bros. Discovery about it and that traditionally no company that expands that window is unsuccessful. So, he didn't say it's happening, but it's happening at some point.
Khan praised the debut of Kota Ibushi.
Khan praised Eddie Kingston and said that after the G1 Climax run, he should be in a better position.
On potentially adding a third hour to Dynamite (Mike: PLEASE NO, NO, NO) based on how well Collision and Battle of the Belts did together. Khan pretty much said future BOTB installments will be on Fridays but the idea of adding more content to Dynamite was an interesting question. He did not comment on doing three hours more consistently.
On Bryan Danielson, Khan said the injury was worse than initially expected. Bryan has not been coming to events. He's been in constant contact with Khan. The silver lining was they were able to bring PAC in for Blood and Guts.
Death Before Dishonor has been one of the more challenging shows to put together. The plan is to reveal Claudio Castagnoli's challenger after Dynamite. He said there are other things coming including a TV Title situation fans "won't believe" and that he held off on announcing Athena vs. Willow Nightingale due to the Owen Hart Foundation tournament - I am assuming he meant the delay in Nightingale's matches due to injury in Japan. Eddie Kingston was to have big role that changed due to the G1. Mark Briscoe had injuries he kept quiet from even AEW doctors.
