COMPLETE AEW BATTLE OF THE BELTS VII COVERAGE

By Cory Strode on 2023-07-15 22:33:00

Battle of the Belts begins immediately with Ian Riccaboni and Nigel McGuinness.

Jushin Liger shows to hand over the cup after Ricky Starks wins the Owen Hart Tournament, and Starks grabs the Owen Hart Cup from him and goes to the back.

Orange Cassidy (AEW International Champion) vs Lance Archer w/Jake Roberts

Archer attacks immediately and goes for the Black Out, but Cassidy fights him off.  Archer tries again, and instead Cassidy grabs a sleeper from the Black Out position. Archer drops Cassidy and then hits a shoulder tackle. Cassidy rolls out of the ring and when Archer chases him, he rolls into the ring, across the ring and out the other side. Jake is there and goes to punch him, but Cassidy stops him to put his hands in his pockets.

In the ring, Tony Schiavone is there to interview The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn. Billy Gunn puts over Calgary and says he will scissor everyone. Anthony Bowens accepts QTV’s challenge. He then says that next Saturday, they get a rematch for the Trios titles.  Bowens puts over the crowd and The Acclaimed.

Toni Storm (AEW Women’s Champion) w/Ruby Soho vs Taya Valkyrie

Toni charges as the bell rings and stomps down Taya in the corner, but Taya fights back and Toni rolls out of the ring. Toni rolls back in and Taya beats her down, ending with double knees in the ropes and covering for two. Toni rolls out of the ring again. Toni gets on the apron, and guillotines Taya on the top rope, and follows up with face washes. They go to the floor, and Toni tosses Taya twice by her hair. Taya recovers as Toni is yelling at Taya’s friends and tosses her onto the floor as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Taya hits a Blue Thunder Bomb for two. Taya hits a hip attack on Toni in the corner and covers for two. We have a problem with the feed and the screen goes dark. They throw on commercials.

We come back from the ads to the match from last week between Juila Hart and Bambi Hall.

We then cut to Ian and Nigel who say severe weather knocked out the satellite and they send us to Tony Schiavone for the Owen Hart Tournament cup presentation.

By this time, the ref sees it. Cassidy gets on the apron and gets a few kicks as Archer on the floor and tries for the hurricanrana, but Archer catches him and slams him into the barricade. Archer then goes after security and Cassidy gets a drop kick on Archer into the barricade. Cassdidy then puts the three security guys on top of Archer.

Archer is up and shoves Casdidy into the barricade. They both roll in the ring at the same time. Archer picks up Cassidy and beats him down in the corner as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Archer suplexes Cassidy across the ring. Archer blocks a Stundog Millionaire and then picks him up. Cassidy tries to hit a spinning DDT but Archer blocks it. Cassidy gets out of the Black Out and nails Archer’s knee. Cassidy keeps on Archer’s knee until he is on his knees. Cassidy gets a super kick and tries for an Orange Punch, but Archer grabs and slams him for two.

Cassidy rolls out of the ring again and Jake sets up for the DDT but Archer stops him. Cassidy gets a drop kick on Archer's knee and then hits a DDT on Archer. They trade blows on the apron as the ref counts. Cassidy knocks Archer off the apron and drop into the ring and the ref counts ten.

Winner and still AEW International Champion as the result of a countout: Orange Cassidy

Cassidy gets medical attention for his hand.

Dr. Martha Hart talks about how she is so proud to have this tournament during the Stampede. She talks about Stu Hart and Owen. She congratulates Willow Nightingale and Ricky Starks. She then tells them to carry them with pride as they carry the legacy of Owen Hart.

We still aren’t told who won the Toni Storm match. It was Storm.

Luchasaurus w/Christian Cage and one of them is the TNT Champion vs Shawn Spears

As Shawn Spears gets a series of blows, we are finally told Toni Storm won her match and it will be on the TNT app.

They go to the floor and Luchasaurus is driven into the ring. Spears rolls into the ring and gets a guillotine on Luchasaurus, but Luchasaurus nails him when he tries to leap into the ring as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Spears gets kicks on Luchasaurus and tries to drop him with a clothesline, but Luchasaurus stays on his feet. Spears finally takes him down after Luchasaurus misses with two clotheslines. Luchasaurus goes to the outside and Spears gets kicks on Luchasaurus. Spears turns his attention to Cage and choses him, grabbing his jacket, but it allows Luchasaurus to slam him through a table at ringside.

Luchasaurus drags Spears into the ring and sets up for a chokeslam, but Spears is able to rollup for two. Luchasaurus then hits a chokeslam for two. Cage gets on the apron with a chair and wedges it behind the turnbuckles. Luchasaurus charges, and Spears dodges, with Luchasaurus ramming into the chair. Spears gets a rollup for two.  Spears tries for the C4, but sees Cage start to get on the apron and charges.  This allows Luchasaurus to get a clothesline from behind, the cover, the pin and the win.

Winner and still TNT Champion: Luchasaurus.

Another Battle of the Belts where no titles changed hands, and the last match was a dud after a whole bunch of great matches.
