7/11 NWA POWERRR SEASON OPENER REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2023-07-14 00:48:00

It’s time for NWA Power, our commentary team is Tim Storm, and Joe Galli.

Now that Power is back and I have some time away from work, here’s your update on this week’s show!

The Brothers of Funstruction (Yabbo and Ruffo) vs La Rebellion (Mecha Wolf and Bestia 666) w/ Vampiro (NWA Tag Team Champions) Non Title match

Yes, the Brothers are clowns. No, I mean literal clowns in makeup and the whole nine yards.

They start with a face off and all four men in the ring.  Yabbo sprays Le Rebellion with a flower. La Rebellion then attacks the two of them. The clowns are whipped into the ropes, and they take down La Rebellion and the bell finally rings.

They double-team Mecha until Ruffo covers for a two.  They fight in the corner with Ruffo missing a splash, but able to throw hands with Mecha until they get to the middle of the ring. Ruffo goes to the ropes, but Bestia grabs him for Mecha to charge, and then Mecha goes after Yabbo on the apron.

Bestia is tagged in and they take out Ruffo with a double kick. Ruffo gets worked over in La Rebellion’s corner as they tag in and out. Ruffo fights his way out of the corner, crawls for the hot tag, but Bestia knocks Yabbo off the apron so no tag can be made. They go back to working over Ruffo in their corner. Ruffo is able to break free and dodge Mecha’s splash in the corner and finally gets the hot tag.

Yabbo cleans house.  He and Ruffo do a bit where after Yabbo kicks Mecha, the Bestia, he kicks at his partner Ruffo, who spins him so that Bestia gets kicked again and rolls out of the ring. Ruffo slams Mecha, and Yabbo covers for two, broken up by Vampiro. Vampiro stays in the ring and takes off his jacket as the ref tells him he has to leave.

Bestia takes advantage of the distraction for a low blow on Ruffo, and Mecha gets a kick on Yabbo. La Rebellion both give Yabbo a buckle bomb followed by a Big Rig for two. Ruffo and Bestia fight on the floor as Vampiro gets in the ring to attack Yabbo, who is being held by Mecha.  Ruffo pulls Vampiro out of the ring.  Yabbo escapes Mecha’s grasp and gets the most devastating move in all of professional wrestling, the surprise roll up for the pin and the win.

Winners: The Brothers of Funstruction

Ricky Morton vs Koa Laxamana

Koa, who says he is honored to be in the ring with Ricky, gives him a Lei. Ricky tosses them to his son, Kerry, who tosses them over his shoulder

They take time to lock up and Ricky points out his son, saying, “The Champ is in the house” as Kerry is the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion. When they lock up, Koa gets a side headlock and shoots Ricky into the ropes, knocking him down with a shoulder tackle. Koa gets a hip toss on Rocky. Kerry sees that Kerry is talking to his valet, and tells Kerry to back off, allowing Ricky to get a free shot.

Ricky gets a back body drop for two. Ricky grabs a hammer lock and Koa breaks free with a punch. Koa gets in a series of blows and sets up for a spear, but Kerry trips him from the outside. Ricky gets a destroyer for the pin and the win.

Winner: Ricky Morton

The match’s job was to put over that Ricky has turned heel.

May Valentine is with Colby Corina and Samantha Starr. She asks them about their positions of power in the NWA. Starr puts over her family connections and she will take on Kenzie Paige for the title next week. Colby talks about how his dad won the NWA championship and he has to show he’s a real #1 contender against Alex Taylor.

Zyon w/Austin Idol vs the Already in the Ring Rolando Freeman

We are told we do not know if Zyon is Austin Idol’s son, who was known as Cyon.

Zyon works a mat style with technical wrestling for the short match.  Rolando doesn’t get any offense. Zyon puts on a series of submission holds, but Rolando gets a cannonball on Zyon, tries for a cross body, but Zyon catches him and hits three backbreakers in a row. Zyon grabs a version of the Money Clip choke hold and Rolando has to tap out.

Winner: Zyon

Danny Dealz has a DLZ segment and interviews Mario Pardua about his match with Thom Latimer next week.

May Valentine is with Alex Taylor, Kerry Morton, and Thrillbilly Silas Mason. She asks them what they think about Ricky Morton’s match. Alex says to address them with respect. Kerry says they should be asked about their actions because they only care about winning. Silas talks about his match with EC3, because EC3 thinks about matches and he just fights.

NWA Women's Champion Kamille, Ruthie Jay & and M95 (Madi and Missa Kate) vs Natalia Markova & Pretty Empowered (Roxy, Ella Envy and Kylie Paige)

An 8 woman match. Oh boy.

Kamille and Markova start off in each other’s faces, then shoving into each other and when Markova is bumped back to her corner, Envy tags herself in. Envy gets a slap and then Kamilla whips her pillar to post for a two count. Madi tags in and Envy gets a slap to the face and tags in Markova.

Madi catches the big boot from Markova and uses it to slam her as she tags in Missa. Missa gets a running knee and covers, but Envy breaks it up. Envy tags herself in again and shoves her partner Markova out of the way. Envy drops Missa, takes her to her corner and tags in Roxy and they work Missa in their corner. Missa finally gets an insigiri on Envy and is able to get the hot tag to Ruthie, who cleans house.

Envy ends her flurry with a side slam after breaking up a two count. Madi comes in and gives Envy a facebuster. Everyone gets a finishing move on the last person to come in until we finally get back to Ruthie and Kylie trading blows. Kylie gets a destroyer on Ruthie for the pin and the win.

Winners: Natalia Markova & Pretty Empowered (Roxy, Ella Envy and Kylie Paige)

Nothing I dislike more than the same finisher used in different matches on the same show. The point of the match seems to be showing friction between Ella Envy and Natalia Markova.

May Valentine is with the Country Gentlemen A.J. Cazana & Anthony Andrews. Andrews says he is excited about the US Tag Showdown and will show they are tag team wrestling the way it’s meant to be.  She asks Cazana about their upcoming match with Odinson and Jordan Clearwater’s match. He says when you step in the ring with them, they have you one way: Dead to rights.

EC3 (NWA National Heavyweight Champion) vs Thrillbilly Silas Mason w/Pollo Del Mar

Silas attacks immediately with a splash in the corner and then tosses EC3 across the ring. He then picks EC3 up and hits a spinning slam for two. Silas chops EC after stretching him in the ropes and then hits shoulder thrusts in the corner, followed by a clubberin’.

EC3 goes to the outside and regroups. When he gets back in the ring, Silas whips him to the corner, following with a clothesline. When Silas charges again, EC3 gets a boot up. Silas charges again, and EC3 dodges, and Silas goes through the ropes into the ring post. EC3 goes after the injured shoulder. EC3 works over Silas in the corner. He then hits a slam while holding Silas’s injured shoulder.

EC3 then locks on an arm bar. Silas gets to his feet and EC3 hits a leg sweep. They slowly work to their feet and Silas gets a pair of clotheslines. Silas gets a scoop and a slam and charges into EC3 in the corner. He goes after EC3 with right jabs and hits a big boot. Silas tries to get the thrill ride, but EC3 is able to stop the spin. EC3 hits Silas with the 1% twice and covers for two.

EC3 leaves the ring and grabs his title belt. Pollo grabs the belt when EC3 is on the apron. They fight over the belt as Pollo enters the ring as EC3 pulls the belt away. Silas shoves Pollo out of his way, and runs into a belt shot by EC3, who is able to get the pin and the win.

Winner and now having won enough matches to get a shot at the World Title: EC3

EC3 drops the belt and leaves the ring as we see Silas is busted open.
