It is Wednesday and this week, AEW Dynamite is coming from the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, SK Canada. The commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz.
Chris Jericho vs Komander
The announcers set the stage for the match with Jewricho having worked in Mexico in the early part of his career, and also showing highlights of Komander’s matches with him running the ropes, which IS impressive. It’s not long before Komander is flying around the ring and we hear about how Jericho needs to refocus after a string of high profile losses.
Jericho still preens when he is in control as a heel, so it’s pretty clear he’s going to join Don Callis. Kamonder is alright in this match, but as usual, all I know about him is that he does a lot of cool stuff in the ring. When he runs the ropes for a backflip onto Jericho, he was far enough away that it looks like Jericho had to really reach to even touch him. The match ends as Jericho grabs Komander attempting the hurricanrana, and Jericho then locking him in the Luion Tamer.
Winner: Jericho
An OK TV match, but I don’t think it’s a match that will cause people to be excited about the show. Jericho was kind of sloppy in the ring through the match, and their chemistry never quite gelled.
We then get the Chord Of Doom as Don Callis comes to the ring. Don puts over the rating they got when they were in the ring last week. He goes over their history complete with Video back when they were just breaking in together. Don says that back when they were with Bad News Allen, Bad News wanted them to remain a team.
We get a video filling us in on the feud between Jack Perry and Hook. Alex knocks on Perry’s car, and Perry says he won’t come out of the car until it’s time to wrestle because it’s an unsafe work environment. Hook gets into the car on the other side and attacks. They scuffle a bit and Perry gets in the car and it drives off.
In the back, Don Callis tells Renee Paquette he will be announcing who the 5th member of the Blackpool Combat Club team for Blood and Guts
We then get a video of MJF and Adam Cole at the bar. Cole says he lost the shirt when MJF asks why he isn’t wearing THEIR t-shirt. Four women go buy, giving them the look, and MJF says it would be two for him and two for Cole. Cole says he cares about Britt Baker, so MJF leaves with all four and Cole is left with the cameraman. MJF comes back and says he is spent.
Cole says he didn’t lose the shirt and he’ll wear it if they do what Cole wants to do next…which is to play Fight Forever. MJF starts to enjoy himself and says that video games are fun with a buddy. Cole asks if he’s ever played a multiplayer game and MJF says he didn’t have any friends to play with.
Cole then says that when they were forced to team up, he was going to blindside him. MJF says he was going to do the same. They decide to win the tag team titles because they are better than you Bay Bay.
Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy vs Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia in a tag team tournament match
Cassidy and Sammy start off and both do their schtick. Once Darby tags in, the silliness is over and he’s wrestling with fire. Cassidy tries a second rope tope and HE almost misses Garcia on the floor. Not a good night for leaping onto someone outside the ring. Garcia tags in, and he’s serious about the match as well. Give the match an interesting vibe with two guys treating the match seriously, and the other two working their typical style.
It also adds that Garcia is still working more like a heel and Garcia is turning face. When Cassidy gets the hot tag, he enrages Garcia so that Garcia makes a bunch of mistakes as we move to the near falls and attempted submissions. As the match goes on, I like the different dynamics to add something since these four have worked together quite a few times. My only problem is that the story with Cassidy was that he was the walking wounded, but while he still has the tape on, he’s wrestling like nothing’s wrong.
Prince Nana comes t o ringside and gives Darby's skateboard to Garica. Darby stops him for using it and as the ref takes the skateboard away, Swerve Strickland comes from the crowd and nails Darby. Sammy gets the GTH for the pin and the win.
Winner and moving on: Sammy Geuvara and Daniel Garcia
We see a little of Sammy and Daniel arguing and we go to the graphic. We then see Sammy talk to Darby and Orange, and Sammy shakes Darby’s hand.
We get a video about Nick Wayne, and how he lost his father at 9 years old, and he started training to continue his father’s name. I know he’s 18, but he looks like a 15 year old. They will have to be careful with how they present him.
In the back Renee is with Adam Cole who is on the phone with Britt Baker. Roderick Strong shows up and asks if MJF really does like this guy. MJF Texts Cole, and says after seeing Brian Cage he isn’t feeling good and can’t wrestle because he is sick.
Big Bill and Brian Cage vs MJF and Adam Cole in a tag team tournament match
MJF fist bumps EVERYONE one the way to the ring. He takes part in Cole’s entrance again. The crowd is actually chanting for MJF and Cole is wearing Their Shirt.
MJF says he will body slam Bill and after the bell, Bill lets him try. MJF tries, fails and yells “Mother of GOD!” and tries to go to the back, but Cole stops him. Cole and Cage do pushups. MJF and Bill tag back in. MJF tries again and barely gets Bill off the ground. Bill mocks him afterward and the crowd starts chanting “You can do it” until Bill drops MJF with a shot to the ribs. The match then begins. Nice stall job by everyone involved because the crowd was into MJF’s histrionics.
Bill and Cage dominate MJF into, through, and out of the commercial. MJF is finally able to get some offense by biting Bill’s hand and then he body slams Bill and the crowd EXPLODES. MJF is finally able to get the hot tag after poking Cage in the eyes.
Cage is abel to get the double fallaway slam with MJF and Cole in his grasp. However, afterward, MJF gets the heat seeker and Cole follows with the Boom Knee for the pin and the win.
Winners: MJF and Adam Cole
If they ever legit turn MJF, I think the AEW crowd will eat it up after seeing the reaction to the body slam.
MJF grabs a mic and cuts a pure white meat babyface promo. Sadly, they did not hit the double clothesline in the match. Cole then puts over their chances of winning the world tag team championship. They even team up to combine their catch phrases.
Renee and Jake Hager go into Jericho’s locker room, and Jake asks Jericho if he is considering joining Don. Jericho says he is thinking about it. Jake says he has history with Jericho as well and he deserves to know. He says until Jericho is straight with him, he can’t give him 100 and gives him…
…the hat.
Ruby Soho w/Toni Storm and Saraya vs Skye Blue by herself because all of the women not in The Outsiders are morons. Oh, and it’s in the Owen Hart Tournament.
The interference starts early, but Blue takes them out with kicks. After Ruby is dropped on the apron, Toni slams Skye into the ring steps in front of the ref, so he tosses Toni and Saraya. When we come back from commercial, Skye gets a flurry of offense and Ruby bounces around for her.
Ruby worked over the leg during the small screen and goes back to it for submissions. Ruby acts as if she busted her nose again to sucker Skye in, nails the No Future for the pin and the win.
Winner and moving on: Ruby Soho
We get a Harley Cameron video premier where she raps about The Acclaimed. Because we are terrible people and deserve to be punished, I guess.
Swerve Strickland vs Nick Wayne
I know Nick has been on the indies, but this is the first time I’m seeing him, and he had a few moves where he nervousness showed, but overall, he and Swerve had a spotfest that made Nick look good. Having him under the wing of Darby Allin is a great idea to get him over. Swerve attacks Nick’s arm and then gets the JML driver for the pin and the win.
Winner: Swerve Strickland
I don’t mind that Nick lost, since he’s a rookie and Swerve is the ruthless veteran. This is one of the few times when someone should lose their first match.
The Chord Of Doom is played and Don Callis comes to the ring to announce the 5th member of the Blackpool Combat Club team for Blood and Guts. Callis starts trashing Kenny Omega, and Omega comes to the ring.
The Blackpool Combat Club attack him and they are joined by The Bastard Pac. They drag Omega into the ring and hold him for Don Callis to nail Omega in the head with a kick. Pac grabs a mic and says Omega has no idea how long he has waited for this since Omega broke his nose, and now he’s the 5th member. They wrap a chair around his neck and put a mic next to hsi mouth.
Omega says they still have a few surprises and the lights go out.
They come back on and it’s time for Kota Ibushi to be shown on the big screen, Omega’s former partner from Japan. The Elite attack and clear the ring. Kenny gives a rah rah speech and next week we’ve got Blood and Guts.
