Today is the 35th anniversary of Jim Crockett Promotions' Great American Bash '88 PPV in Baltimore, Maryland, the first PPV other than WWF to be available across the entire PPV universe at the time. If you've never seen the show, it's on the WWE Network and has several excellent matches including The Midnight Express vs. The Fantastics, Sting & Nikita Koloff vs. Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson and Lex Luger vs. Ric Flair. Flair is at the top of his game here and the crowd truly believed Luger was going to win the belt. If you want a true accounting of what it meant to be OVER with the audience, watch the reaction when Sting makes his way to the ring, as he was one of the most popular talents in the world at that point. There's also a big angle with Dusty Rhodes as he wrestles Barry Windham and the one and only Tower of Doom match as well that culminates a Jimmy Garvin vs. Kevin Sullivan storyline over Garvin's wife Precious. It's an excellent show.
It was announced over the weekend that Matt Cardona will debut for MLW at their next FITE+ PPV on Sunday 9/3 in Philadelphia, PA at the 2300 Arena. The really funny thing about that is Cardona JUST lost a Loser Banned from 2300 Arena match to Bully Ray just a few weeks ago.
