Rick Allen, professionally known as Sunny Beach for Herb Abrams' UWF and as Sandy Beach for the WWF, underwent a heart surgery yesterday, several years after undergoing a quadruple bypass surgery and a heart attack back in 2019.
On his Facebook page, Allen, 59, noted, "I’d like to thank all my family, friends and God Almighty for the huge outpouring of love ,support and healing prayers checking in on me and my family during and after my heart surgery yesterday afternoon it was rescheduled from Wednesday Morning due to a broken computer part in the operating room that had to be ordered and shipped and Installed before my surgery yesterday afternoon. It took longer then expected over Five Hours but the Doctors say it was a successful procedure. Very thankful to my surgical team Dr Veseli and staff at Southside Hospital who operated on me . God Bless you all. I should be getting discharged later this morning and heading home to recover."
Allen worked for WWF in an undercard role for four years after working as a stuntman and being noticed on the set of the WWF film No Holds Barred.
After his WWF run, Allen worked for a number of different promotions including Herb Abrams UWF, where he won the Tag Team titles with Stevie Ray as Wet and Wild, the GWF in Texas, Gordon Scozzari's AWF and Stampede Wrestling, among other promotions. His feud with Mick Foley on the independent scene in the Northeast has been credited by Foley as helping him evolve into a main event performer in between WCW stints. Allen also promoted independent events in the NYC area.
Allen, who retired from the business in the 1990s, now works in training security professionals.
Our best wishes to Allen and his family for a quick and painless recovery.
