LOOKING AT THE JULY 1st AEW COLLISION

It was another strong edition of AEW Collision. Some might even say we got a taste of nostalgia this week with the Ring of Honor callback with Samoa Joe vs Roderick Strong. I think this week’ edition could set up some fun stories. Here is just a few quick thoughts I have from AEW Collision: 

World title match

A hot opener with MJF issuing a open challenge for the AEW world title. I like that this happened. It just shows that Collision is just as important as Dynamite. I hope that we can continue to see the world title up for grabs on Saturdays. I think this was a strong showing from Ethan Page. Page has all of the potential to be one of the biggest babyfaces in AEW within the next five years. 

CM Punk vs Samoa Joe 

With Samoa Joe’s win over Roderick Strong, Joe will now face CM Punk in the semifinals of the Owen Hart Tournament. A highly anticipated match. The two have not met  in singles action since 2005. I am very curious as to how this match will end. Do we see a run in from Jay White? Or does this match end clean with a show of respect at the end? I would also hope that Punk and Joe cross paths on a PPV at some point as well. 

Punk heel turn looming? 

Since CM Punk’s return on June 17th the self-proclaimed king has been on a slow rise to becoming a heel in my opinion. I do expect to see CM Punk in the finals of the Owen Hart Tournament. I think it would be great if Ricky Starks faces Punk in the final and picks up a hard-fought victory. I believe this could launch Punk’s heel turn. Punk goes ballistic after the upset and lays out Starks.  Just imagine the promo wars between CM Punk and Ricky Starks. It would make for an interesting storyline which could lead to Punk joining forces with Bullet Club Gold to take on FTR and Starks. I am very intrigued to see how the Owen Hart Tournament plays out and to see when Punk will become a full-blown heel. It is certainly bound to happen.
