WOW EPISODE 41 RECAP

By Cory Strode on 2023-07-02 10:38:00

Our commentary team is David McLane, Steven Dickey and AJ Mendez.

WOW has been renewed for a second season, so I’ll be doing this for at least another year.

Episode 41: Newcomers

We start with a recap of last week’s main event and then we are told about this week’s main event.

Reina Del Rey and Wrecking Ball vs Chantilly Chella and Foxxy Fierce

Foxxy and Reina start and Reina shoves Foxxy to the corner. Foxxy is able to escape and hits Reina with a hip attack. Foxxy escapes a waistlock and tags in Chella, and Reina tags in Ball. They run the ropes and Ball is finally able to get a clothesline. Reina is tagged in and they double-team Chella. Reina and Ball work her over with quick tags. Chella finally gets a quick tag after Ball is shoved into her own corner.

Foxxy is tagged in, as is Reina, and Foxxy gets a series of drop kicks. Foxxy then gets a flying cross body for two, broken up by Ball.  The tag team siren goes off and all four women are in the ring. Foxxy is clotheslined to the mat and Chella is clotheslined over the top after two attempts. Reina drops Ball onto Foxxy and they pair for the pin and the win.

Winner: Reina Del Rey and Wrecking Ball

This match was a mess.  Lots of botched moves and stuff that didn’t look good.  If it couldn’t be saved in the editing, they should have either redone the match or just passed it over. I don't look for five-star matches from WOW, but since they are bringing in more indy women’s wrestlers onto the show, botchfests like this should be in their rear view mirror.

They have a video that explains Lana Starr’s Fabulous Four faction, and that Vickie Lynn McCoy’s job is to take out anyone who might go for the titles held by the other members of the team.

BK Rhythm vs Crystal Waters

Crystal Waters has, of course, a beach girl gimmick and is in a tag team called “Spring Break 24/7” with .  She has wrestled on the indies as Susie Crawford.

Waters picks BK’s feet and goes for a jack knife pin for two. She then gets a head scissors takedown and an arm drag and BK bails to compose herself. Waters chases her and BK gets in the ring first and meets Waters with kicks. BK gives her shoulder thrusts in the corner and then whips her to the opposite corner. When BK charges, Waters goes up and over for the sunset flip for two.

BK gets a kick to the midsection and then a suplex. BK hits a snap mare and pulls her up to slam her and cover for two. BK locks in an abdominal stretch. Waters escapes with a hip toss, hits an insigiri and then hits a bulldog for two. They fight in the corner and Waters gets a blockbuster for two. BK then gets a full nelson side slam for the pin and the win.

Winner: BK Rhythm

Odd that they would have waters lose on her first match, but BK does win more often than not, and they spotlight her more than many of the other performers.

In the locker room, Coach finds Ariel Sky in HER locker room.  OK hers and Randi Rah Rahs.  Coach wants her to leave, but Randi says that they should be a squad.  Coach reminds Randi that the last idea she had led to a whistle being glued to her mouth, but it might work. Coach calls them Teen Spirit (continuing the tradition of someone being called a teen LONG after they are old enough to drink).  The Coach/Randi stuff is silly enough that I like it.

Ice Cold and Genesis vs Randi Rah Rah and Ariel Sky

Cold and Sky start off and they trade wrist locks. Sky gets a head scissor takedown and Cold tags in Genesis. Randy also tags in and she and Skye do a double cartwheel into an elbow.  Randy gets a roll up for two. Randi turns a wheelbarrow into an arm drag.  Sky tags back in and Genesis drops Sky with a spin kick after Cold hits Sky with a kick from the outside. Genesis keeps up the attack with a leg drop for two.

Genesis gets a scoop slam and Cold tags in, mocking Randy before getting a cartwheel into a pin. She and Genesis keep Sky in their corner with quick tags. Sky escapes a basket toss with double elbows and Randi is tagged in to clean house. We then get the tag team siren and all four women fight in the ring. Coach blows her whistle to give direction and it distracts Randi and Sky so that Genesis and Cold get double rolls ups for the pin and the win.

Winners: Ice Cold and Genesis

Coach grabs a mic and says the way they win is when they listen to her and her coaching tips. She says they were told to do whatever it takes to win. From now on, they have to listen to her.

We then get a video spotlight on Selena Majors, who wrestled in WOW as Bambi. She discusses her eating disorder when her parents divorced as a teenager. She then discusses being a trainer in WOW. Really great video and when it is up on YouTube it’s well worth your time.

We then get a character video for Vickie Lynn McCoy.

Sandy Shore vs Vickie Lynn McCoy w/Lana Starr

Lana Starr joins commentary and we miss the initial lock up as they show her putting on her headset.

Shore gets a quick roll up and follows up with a crucifix rollup, both for two. Shore tries for a sunset flip and Vickie blocks it. Vickie nails Shore with a forearm, and then takes control with a beat down. Vickie dodges Shore’s drop kicks and goes back to tossing her around the ring. Shore tries for a hip toss and Vickie clocks it and instead hits a snap suplex on Shore. Shore gets a series of blows and a kick.  She then takes Vickie down with a drop kick to her knee and a facebuster for two.

Vickie gets a side slam out of nowhere for the pin and the win.

Winner: Vickie Lynn McCoy

Vickie grabs a mic after the match and says if they keep feeding her snacks, she’ll keep taking them down. No one will get near the World or Tag Team titles as long as she is around.
