LIVE, ONGOING AEW DYNAMITE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2023-06-21 20:24:00

It is Wednesday and this week, AEW Dynamite is coming from the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, IL. The commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz.

The Hardys (Matt and Jeff Hardy) vs The Gunns (Colton and Austin)

The Gunns have a new entrance that starts with the lights out and then the camera circling them.

Matt starts out with Austin, and we get a HUGE delete chant. They lock up collar and elbow and go to the corner with Matt in control. They break clean, and then lock up again, with Matt bringing Austin to his corner to tag in Jeff. The tag team siren goes off and all four men are in the ring as the Hardys double team the Gunns. Jeff gets a whisper in the wind and a two count. Jeff is whipped into the ropes, where he holds on, but is hit from the apron by Colton.

Colton tags in and stomps down Jeff in the corner before mocking his dance to the crowd. Colton suplexes Jeff for two. The Gunns start getting quick tags to work over Jeff and keep him from tagging out. Jeff finally gets a corkscrew kick and escapes for the tag, letting Matt come in and clean house. Matt ends the sequence with a Twist of Fate and a two count on Austin, broken up by Colton putting Austin’s feet on the ropes.

Colton is able to get a guillotine on the top rope, and Austin covers with his feet on the ropes by two. Matt tries another Twist of Fate, but Colton holds onto his brother to block the move. Colton tags in and Jeff is able to come in and works over both Gunns, ending with a double DDT.  Jeff then hits a double leg drop on them. Jeff gets a Twist of Fate on Colton.

Jeff goes to the top and Bullet Club Gold rush the ring with Jay White distracting the ref and Juice Robinson knocking Jeff off the top so that the Gunns can hit the 3:10 to Yuma for the pin and the win.

Winners: The Gunns

Bullet Club and the Gunns beat the Hardys down after the match, but Ricky Starks rushes the ring, as does FTR. And finally, CM Punk.

FTR, Starks, and Punk hold the ring as the Gunns and Bullet Club stand on the stage.

Punk says if they want to fight, they can do it on Collision!

It's 5 Star Strode.  ^_^

We then get a video package of the issues between Mark Briscoe and Jeff Jarrett for their concession Stand Brawl.

Mark Briscoe vs Jeff Jarrett in a concession stand brawl

Mark attacks and works Jeff over as they go through the concourse. Mark sets up a table again a pillar and tosses Jeff into it, and then nails him with a trash can. They go back to the original concession stand and start fighting at the hot dog stand. One fo the concession stand workers sprays Mark with mustard, and we learn it’s Karen Jarrett.

Mark sets Jeff on a table and finds a ladder, but when he gets to the top, Sonjay Dutt shows and shoves him off into the table as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, they have brawled down to ringside. Jay Lethal has joined in and all three of them are beating up Mark in the ring. As Jay Lethal is yelling at someone at the timekeeper’s table, we discover it is Poppa Briscoe, and he choke slams Lethal through the table. In the ring, Poppa Briscoe runs through Jarrett, but Karen nails Poppa with a low blow.

Mark works over Jeff and sets for the Jay Driller as Satnam Singh comes to the ring and choke slams Mark. Christopher Daniels and the Best Friends run to the ring as do the Lucha Brothers and its a brawl on the floor. In the ring, Penta hits Jeff with a super kick and Mark then gets a schoolboy on Jeff for the pin and the win.

Winner: Mark Briscoe

That was NUTS!

We then go to a pre-tape in the back with the Blackpool Combat Club, Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita and Mox challenges The Elite to a five on five at Forbidden Door. Danielson then talks about how Kazuchika Okada is going to get called out tonight.

This week's show is SUPER fast paced.  And Suzuki doing the "Slowing I turn" bit to Darius Martin made me laugh pretty hard.

We then get a video package of CM Punk’s return on Collision as well as the matches and returns.

Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki vs Action Andretti, AR Fox, and Darius Martin

Sammy starts with Andretti and quickly move from collar and elbow to side headlock, and then into mat wrestling, and then a stalemate of kicks. Suzuki and Martin both tag in. Tiem for a chop fest. Suzuki no sells the chops and forearm, and when he throws his forearm, Martin drops.  Jeircho tags in and he and Suzuki do the Le Sex Gods pose.

Fox tags in and he whips Jericho to the corner and gets a lariat and then a drop kick. He misses a leap from the top, but get the mule kick. Jericho pulls the ref in the way, so Fax stops his attack, and then drops Fox with a clothesline after Sammy hit Fox with a knee from the outside and we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Sammy and Fox are in the ring, and Sammy is keeping Fox from tagging out. Jericho is tagged in as is Andretti, and they run the ropes. After taking heavy shots from Jericho, he leaps onto Sammy on the outside and then hits a shotgun drop kick on Jericho back in the ring. Andretti tries for the split legged moonsault, but Jericho dodges and Suzuki comes into the ring behind Andretti for the sleeper.

Darius nails Suzuki to break it up and they face off again.  I love how Suzuki did the “Slowly I turn” before dropping Darius and then Suzuki goes for a pile driver on Andretti, but Fox hits an enziguiri. Sammy then gets a double DDT on Fox and Andretti from the top. Fox and Jericho struggle for control, and Fox is knocked off the apron, and Andretti rolls up Jericho for two. Andretti gets a leaping kick from the ropes and follows with a shooting star press for two.

It’s time for each person to take out the next sequence. Darius ends it with a DDT on Jericho for two. Darfius goes to the top and Leaps, but Jericho grabs him into the Lion Tamer and Darius has to tap out.

Winners: Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki

Again, it was a crazy spotfest.

Renee Paquette comes to the ring and asks about the faceoff with Sting last week. Jericho says it was a monumental moment for everyone but him. He knows how selfish and egotistical Sting is. He challenges Sting and Darby to find a partner and face Le Suzuki Gods to a match at Forbidden Door.

And then, IT’S THE MAN CALLED STING who comes to the ring with Darby Allin.

Sting says it was a great moment, but he needs some time with him, so they accept. And they tell Jericho he’s made a lot of enemies and he will find out their partner is at Forbidden Door.

It’s time for the drawings for the blind Eliminator Tournament where random people are tagged together. Tony draws two names but doesn’t tell us who it is.

This show has been much faster paced than even a normally fast paced Dynamite. Hard to keep up and impossible to catch your breath.

The Elite answer the challenge of the Blackpool Combat Club, and their 4th person is Eddie Kingston, and since he doesn’t trust them, he will choose the 5th person, someone who will have his back.

Adam Cole comes to the ring, microphone in hand. He says he did everything in his power to beat MJF, but MJF didn’t win either. He then tells MJF to come to the ring and talk about their rematch.

MJF comes out. After heelign the crowd, he then congratulates Cole for coming back better than ever. He then says that even though time ran out, he had Cole beat (which is the opposite for true). He then tells Cole, no rematch because he cares about his health. Cole then says if they can’t have a match, so instead, let’s just fight.

Tony Schiavone says he has an announcement, and both Cole and MJF tell him to shut up.  Tony then says the first names he chose was there, and they are now tag team partners.

Hiroshi Tanahashi shows on the screen to challenge MJF for Forbidden Door. And then Cole says that MJF thinks Tanahashi is better than him. Cole gets the crowd to chant Coward, and MJF accepts, so Cole can talk MJF into any match, it seems.

We then get the brackets for the Owen Hart Tournament.

Orange Cassidy and Katsuyori Shibata vs Zack Sabre Jr. and Daniel Garcia

Shibata and Cassidy fist bump, but Garcia and Sabre won’t shake hands.

We start with Sabre and Shibata start off with mat work. After they break, Sabre and Shiabat face off, as does Cassidy and Garcia as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Shibata tags in and he and Sabre go back to mat wrestling, hold and counter hold. They each try to put on an abdominal stretch and not allowing the other to completely lock it on. Garcia tags in and Shibata hits a series of forearms. Cassidy tags in and Garcia does his mocking dance, and Cassidy makes fun of it. They then trade waistlocks and Cassidy breaks free with hands in the pockets.

Sabre tags in and Sabre tells him to start his tricks. Sabre picks the leg during the soft kick and they move to hold and counterhold. Sabre nails Cassidy with a snap mare into a neck twist. Sabre ties Cassidy up until Cassdidy gets to the ropes, Garcia tags in and gets a snap suplex for two. Garcia and Sabre work quick tags and double teams on Cassidy to keep him in the ring. Cassidy rolls to the outside for a break as we go picture in picture.

When they return again to full screen, Casdidy is able to get stundog millionaire and tags in Shabata. He works over Sabre and when he goes to the ropes, Garcia nails him in the back, and Shibata retaliates with a strike and goes back to Sabre. Sabre si able to get a kick to Shibata’s arm and tags in Garcia, who attacks the arm with kicks.

Shibata is able to hit a series of strikes and knocks Garcia to the mat. Garcia looks like he has a split lip as Cassidy comes in the ring. Cassidy and Shibata hit Garcia with soft kicks, and Garcia is up and enraged. Sabre comes into the ring. Shibata and Cassidy work them over int he corners, ending with stereo drop kicks.

Cassidy dives into Sabre on the outside and Shibata nails Garcia in the corner and hits a suplex for two. Garcia goes back to working Shibata’s leg and locks in the Dragon tamer. Shibata reverses it and Sabre gets in the ring and hits the neck twist on Shibata. Cassidy gets the swinging DDT on Sabre. Shibata and Garcia fight int he middle fo the ring and Shibata locks on the sleeper. Sabre tries to break it up and Shibata drops him.

Cassidy tries to get the Orange Punch on Garcia, but he ducks and Shibata is hit instead. Garcia gets the surprise roll up for the pin and the win.

Winners:  Zack Sabre Jr. and Daniel Garcia

Garcia and Sabre hold onto the Pure Title, and Shibata goes to grab it, and then Cassidy joins the calm group.  Sabre and Garcia let go, but Cassidy and Shibata don’t as we see they will face each other at Forbidden Door.

In the back, Alex Marvez is with Will Ospreay shows and is asked why he is insulting Canadians. Don Callis shows and says he will allow Will to use his military grade security.

We get a video from Toni Storm and Willow Nightingale about their feud.

Kris Statlander (TBS Champion) vs Taya Valkyrie

Statlander dodges Taya’s first attacks, and then hits a shoulder tackle. Statlander gets chops in the corner on Taya, and they move to another corner and Statlander keeps it up until Taya gets an open hand slap. They trade chops and strikes in the middle of the ring until Statlander gets a leg sweep and a cover for two.

They fight to the floor when Statlander gets a moonsault from the apron and rolls Taya into the ring. As the fight continues, they go picture in picture.

When they return to fullscreen, they are throwing hands in the middle of the ring. Statlander runs into Taya repeatedly in the corner and Statlander hits a slam for two. Statlander tries for a gut wrench, but Taya blocks it. Taya gets a double underhook slam for two. Taya gets rolled up for two, and then Statlander gets a discus lariat for two. Taya gets a spear and then an elbow in the corner. Taya hits her German Suplex while Satalander is hung up in the ropes.

Taya goes to the top and Statlander meets her there. Statlander gets a superplex and then hits Wednesday Night Fever (a modified pile driver) for the pin and the win.

Winner and still TBS Champion: Kris Statlander

This match showed why Taya was not the one to break the streak. She had a few stutter steps, a few times where she was out of position, and Statlnder looked like she hadn’t had any time off.

Eddie Kingston is on his way to the ring as we start the final segment. He says the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega have left. He says Mox has a problem with him teaming wit h the Elite, but he just hates Claudio Castagnoli. Mox comes to the ring and says that Eddie is drawing a line, and Eddie says Mox started it by teaming with Claudio.  Eddie then says the 5th man is Tomihiro Ishii.

As he comes to the ring, the rest of the Blackpool Combat Club attack Eddie, and they take out him and Ishii.

Bryan Danielson calls out Okada, and the Rainmaker Kazuchika Okada has arrived. Yuta attacks Okada from behind. He holds Okada for Bryan to hit the psycho knee, and Okada dodges, so Yuta takes the knee. Okada then hits Yutas with the Rainmaker clothesline and we are desperately out of time.
