FIGHTT PRO - Round 2

6/20/23 - IWTV.live

It’s our second week of big fights with a pretty savage Premier Contenders main event on the book between Delirious & Victor Benjamin. A quick refresher on the FIGHTT PRO rules and where the rankings stand after last week:

Jason Heat and Pelle Primeau are on commentary. Let’s do this! We start off with a message from Logan Laroux’s lawyer. Prince Nana tried to fine Logan after last week’s action…but Laroux says nah and demands the foe is lifted and he get an apology. Regardless, he ain’t here this week until Prince apologies.

Back in the ring, Prince Nana says he’s fined Laroux. As a result, he forfeited his match against Eli Isom. Isom doesn’t want a win that way and asks Nana for a match. LSG is more than happy to oblige…he comes to Nana with his hat in hand and apologizes to Nana for being upset about not having a spot on the roster…Isom accepts LSG as a challenge tonight!

We get a look at the division that instantly formed between tag partners Leo Sparrow & Matt Quay last week. Quay says that he’s apologized but Sparrow isn’t responding to him. He’s asking Prince Nana for a shot at the hybrid division if Leo won’t get back to him…

Match 1: Tag Team Division: Busky Brawlers (Joe Keys & Eric Martin) vs Action Andretti & Breaux Keller

We have another established tag team against a thrown together tandem. The crowd just pops for Andretti & Keller. The Brawlers are just upset about this. Keller calls Keys for just being all talk in the face off…the bell rings as the Brawlers go right at their opponents. Keller and Andretti go high flying early and keep Martin down. Keys with a cheap shot but the ref misses the violation. Keys just dropping hard kicks to his former tag partner, Keller. There’s so many violations happening right now but the ref just ain’t seeing any of it. Keller with a reversal to a neckbreaker…makes the crawl…Andretti in hot! He takes out both Brawlers…moonsault to both of them…kick out! Keller with a tag in but the ref missed it. Did Martin get briefly KO’d? Keys gets caught shoving Andretti off the buckles and draws their first warning. They take advantage of it though and just starts working Andretti over. Body slam and a running shooting star! Joe Keys enters the ring to break up the pin and draws a violation. Keys tags in proper…Keller tags in too…sunset flip roll up out of the blue and Keys is down for the three! This was a good bit of fun to start us off!

Winners: Keller & Andretti (3pts)

Match 2: Hybrid Division: The Mecca vs Matt Quay (alternate)

Looks like Matt Quay is getting his wish for a shot in singles as a division alternate…but he’s got a huge test in one angry Mecca. As usual, this could result in Quay being ranked in the hybrid division with a win! Mecca just shouts in the mic about not caring about the rules and Quay not having a chance. Mecca draws an immediate warning for a closed fist. Huge hard whip to the corner. Mecca is super aggressive and just taking Quay apart. Mecca draws a violation for hair pulling! This is very one sided…but Mecca may be his own worst enemy in this one. Quay starts to fire up and Mecca powders…that’s a violation too! Mecca is in trouble just by virtue of not caring about the rules he should have read. HUGE lariat connects but Quay kicks out at 2.9999. Quay trying to fire back up, dvd neckbreaker for two! Mecca with an eye poke before sinking in a deep crossface chicken wing…but the ref stops the match and awards it to Quay via Violation Forfeit!

Winner: Matt Quay (2pts)

We get a video promo from Bobby Shields, who will be making his debut against #1 seed Rhett Titus

Match 3: Hybrid Division: Bobby Shields (alternate) vs Rhett Titus

Bobby Shields has been in every iteration of FIGHTT PRO (this being the third) and he’s looking to get a win and get into the hybrid division as well. Shields is ready to show why he was a main event player before…but Titus is the top seed for a reason. Titus and Shields going hold for hold early on, testing their ability and experience to escape from various chokes. Shields with a slam and a cover. Hard chest chops, Shields with a neckbreaker for two. Titus sends him flying with a monkey flip. Belly to belly toss. Lot of torque on that one. Titus stretching Shields, will he give up and concede the road to retirement? Titus takes the back and forces Bobby to kick out while he crushes his ribs. Bobby with a reversal to a STO! The crowd starting to get behind Bobby …falcon arrow for two! Titus with a double chicken wing airplane spin slam for two! Titus with a deep crab…Shields grabs the rope for the break. Rhett with a series of backbreakers…gutwrench suplex…Bobby kicks out again! Titus is shocked! The crowd chanting for Bobby! Shields won’t stay down and demands Titus take him out. Rhett with a slap and comes running into a stiff knee! Gory bomb almost seals the three!!! He tries it again…Rhett reverses…Shields transitions to a pin! Shields keeps the pressure on but Titus pushes him back and lands the KO shot with that dropkick!

Winner: Rhett Titus (4pts)

Post-match, Rhett puts Bobby over huge and gives him the respect he deserves. As Titus starts talking about sponsoring matches and wrestlers, the Mecca starts screaming his way back into the ring. Mecca starts getting really personal and Titus KO’s this loudmouth with a stiff dropkick.

Match 4: Hybrid Division: Anthony Bennett vs Moses

After getting KO’d last week, Bennet really has a bad draw tonight against the much larger Moses. The crowd definitely doesn’t think he has much of a chance in the face off. Bennett comes in with knees and kicks to the head to stagger the big man early. This is his only strategy. Unfortunately he decided to take a sip of an appletini and Moses gets his wits back. Bennett taking huge shots. Moses with a Sea Splitter (a sitout Michanoku driver) for the win. This was a steamrolling and Bennet knows how bad this looks for him.

Winner: Moses (3pts)

Match 5: Grappling Division: Damaris Dawkins vs Janai Kai

Damaris Dawkins is a hometown hero but she’s also looking to come back from a tough loss last week. Janai Kai isn’t going to give her an easy time though. Damaris respects her in the face off…but she’s here to fight. Janai is silent and tries to punk her. Damaris is here for it and steps in. Ring the bell, Janai already trying for that KO kick but Damaris is doing a great job of dodging and reversing. Janai will not be denied and starts unloading those huge kicks. Janai picks up a hair pulling warning but this looks unintentional. Kai trying to separate the shoulder, twists it up and drops boots into it. Owwww. Kai has a great murder face and she arches back in a choke. Dawkins out…and booted right in the face. Kai is stalking her prey. Huge kick to the back as Damaris gets choked into the rope on the shot. Dawkins still ain’t done and comes swinging! Janai smiling through it, Dawkins with a huge northern lights. Kai with an up kick as Damaris comes in. Kai connects with a kick to the back of the head…Damaris cannot make the 10 count and Janai picks up the win and rockets to the top of the Grapplers Rankings.

Winner: Janai Kai (4pts)

Match 6: Hybrid Division: LSG (alternate) vs Eli Isom

This is LSG’s shot to get into the hybrid division. He thanks Isom from the bottom of his heart for the chance to make it in. Considering how aggressive and angry he was in the last two episodes…I don’t ENTIRELY trust this. Isom isn’t just gonna hand over a win though, he still has something to prove since he only won via time limit violations last week. These guys know each other well and they are slowly feeling each other out, trying not to get caught. LSG speeds it up with arm drags and tries to wring that arm off. Isom escaping a body splash and he’s going finally. Sliding lariat for two! LSG fighting off the waist lock and flies in with an elbow. Good swinging neckbreakers, LSG is going for it but Isom keeps finding ways to stop his rally. Isom with a big whip and corner spear. suplex for two! Isom grabs a front headlock and tries to grind LSG out. LSG with a flurry…neckbreaker…enziguri! Fisherman’s suplex for two! Full back and forth scrambling as they are both trying to get this pin. LSG eats a bridging German for two. This is a war! Isom with a huge spinning back suplex for another close fall. Isom trying a suplex…LSG with a knee to the head..huge clothesline for two! Crowd going full on this is awesome. LSG is frustrated and screaming that he belongs here. Pin trap after pin trap, Isom sends LSG into the buckles and spikes him with a brain buster for the three! Crowd chanting for Both These Guys…but LSG is not going to be in the hybrid division after all.

Winner: Eli Isom

Both guys are struggling to their feet, Isom extends the hand….LSG takes it and hugs Isom. Great show of sportsmanship….until LSG drops to a knee and hits a blatant low blow! LSG has a chair. The ref is begging him to stop….LSG with a spike ddt into the chair. Ryan Mooney hits the ring to run LSG off. Prince Nana is out here. He’s furious that LSG went into business for himself and has him thrown out of the building! Nana just suspended LSG for these actions, no one is above the law! The ring fills to help peel Isom off the mat.

Backstage with Anthony Bennett, Prince Nana and Ernie Osiris. Nana warns Bennett that if he goes to 0-3, he’ll be cut from FIGHTT PRO. Nana says he likes him but he needs to loses the drink and the glasses and he will give him a tag partner for next week and prevent getting to that 3-loss mark. Nana clearly sees something in Bennett…but he’s gonna have to fight for his spot.

Main Event: Premier Contenders: Victor Benjamin vs Delirious

Rhett Titus is hanging out on commentary for the main event. Can Delirious hang onto his spot as the Premier Fighter for another week? I love seeing Delirious featured like this in 2023. He comes right at Victor’s feet but he’s ready for it. Delirious is just barking insanity at Victor and challenging the big man. Victor runs him right into the corner and starts landing big shots to the mid selection. Commentary starts talking about Victor’s potential resentment after coming up through the ROH dojo with Delirious’ guidance. Victor just landing hard kicks to the ribs. Big reverse brain buster into the knee. Hard elbows to the head but Delirious isn’t done yet. Victor trying to take the arm but Delirious bites him! Warning! Victor retorts with a closed fist! Warning! Delirious pummeling him with short lariats in the corner…and fails to break the five count to get a violation! Delirious with a short ddt crunches Victor’s surgically repaired neck. Victor with a follow up flying knee and sliding European uppercut. Delicious with a trip…Running knee! Shadows over Hell connects! Victor kicks out! Delirious with a flurry of strikes but Victor hits a elbow, spinning kick and a flying knee! Delirious crumbles and the ref has to pull Victory off!

Winner: Victor Benjamin (New Premier Fighter)

But then…as the the cameras went off.

Rhett Titus still wants a piece of Delirious at FIGHTT PRO….in the future. Outside the venue, Nana takes a phone call. He says this is THE CALL?!?! He has to go? He leaves FIGHTT PRO in the hands of Ernie Osiris! Ernie is….NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS but Nana promises he will tell him everything later. Will next week be more or less chaotic?

And that’s it for this week’s FIGHTT PRO Round 2! I really enjoyed the pure drama of LSG/Isom. It was the clearly the MOTN by just crowd response. LSG is awesome to watch but Isom has had back to back fantastic showings. He’s almost found the spot of FIGHTT PRO’s “Good Match Machine”. THAT SAID, I would make an argument for my favorite match this week being Mecca/Quay. Mecca’s pure aggression…and pure disregard for the rules and unwillingness to follow them leading to his loss was a joy to watch. And in a promotion where the rules are supposed to matter? These are what the consequences look like! Kai/Dawkins put on a really good show, as did Delirious/Benajamin. It’s WILD that we had three KO’s this week. I like that Bennett was not ENTIRELY a sacrificial lamb for Moses and this might lead to a good longer-term story here as he tries to ditch the silly stuff and take the competition more seriously. The “will not quit” drama between Bobby Shields and Rhett Titus was really good but I didn’t expect Shields to get the W. Not with that kill shot Titus is establishing in play. Overall, good action top to bottom this week. This was a two-hour block that really flew by for me. Let’s go Round 3!
