How does the Bloodline story end? I don't want it to yet, but of course it will. What's the way to end it?
I don’t know and that is one of the best parts of the storyline. It seems like it could be Jey Uso taking on Roman, which would take the storyline on its full arc. My hope is that it doesn’t actually end so much as it morphs into something else. It’s the best story that the business has told in decades.
So, Punk tries to reach out to the Bucks (EVPs of the company he works for...) and is hit with replies from attorneys telling him not to contact them. In what world is an employee not permitted to speak to their "boss"? Sounds like a wonderful company structure.
Mike Eps and I made that exact same point on The FMB on Saturday. If I am Tony Khan, I strip them of their EVP Titles, and the compensation comes with it, immediately. Then if they don’t want to talk to talk to a fellow wrestler, fine, don’t.
Also, I've read some reports that WWE might have interest in the Elite should they become available. Why on Earth would WWE want anything to do with those children?!
Mike Eps and I also talked about that on the show if you want to listen. I think there would be some reasonable interest in Kenny Omega. If they could bring him in and produce him in a way that he was New Japan Kenny, and not the AEW version who quoted Steve Urkel, I could see WWE considering it. The Bucks? They make a rumored 7 figure salary. I don’t see WWE even talking to them if that is what they would be looking for. Even if they agree to work for less, we all see how they usually cause viewers to turn off Dynamite when they appear. We all see that they had a hand in the CM Punk blow up. We all see that their first night back on TV they mocked CM Punk like children, even though they were officers in the company. We also all see that two guys who are barely Cruiserweights like to wrestle as if they are The Road Warriors. Would there be some interest from WWE? Maybe. How much? Well if we all see the negatives attached to them, I am sure Paul Levesque does as well.
This really isn't an attack or meant to come across disrespectful. I know how things can look in words. I just wanted to ask a couple of questions about what can be perceived to be (and perceived isn't always right) being pro WWE against AEW. The first would be when TNA failed, a lot (and perhaps not Dave) called them WWE lite and urged them to offer an alternative product to WWE. In the Q and A from 6/17 Dave urges AEW to copy WWE re The Bloodline story despite AEW offering an alternative. Is offering an alternative to WWE surely not a good thing? It will never be the biggest company in town but it gives other fans what they enjoy. Can’t that just be respected?
When TNA was copying WWE, it was bad Vince Russo booking copying bad Vince McMahon booking. Of course people wanted something different because they wanted something good to watch. I never said copy The Bloodline story. That would be lame. I said develop characters that fans care about and put them in good stories, which doesn’t happen on Dynamite to the many people who don’t watch the show. Why can’t AEW be in the biggest company in town? Why does it need to be a niche product? It’s owned by a billionaire with TV slots on two major networks. It doesn’t have to be a niche product. To me, the goal of every business is to grow it to the biggest possible point. AEW is clearly not there, hence my offering ways to attain that position. All of the fans who currently “get what they want” would still get what they want if the product is tightened up and improved. But the fact of the matter is there are a lot of fans out there who would watch AEW if the product was better.
NXT over the earlier years focused on dream matches and good wrestling. Dave really liked that. Yes there was storylines but I've just watched a really good AEW segment between Adam Cole and MJF furthering their feud without a move in sight. And I've seen great AEW moments without wrestling too.
NXT did not do dream matches every week or do them just to do them. They BUILT to them. That’s a big difference. And, you’re citing the MJF-Cole angle proves the point I made above. Sure, you liked it because you know all of the inside stuff. The average fan, who wants stories to be explained to them? They look at that promo and wonder what the hell they just watched. That leads to them turning off the show. Contrast that with CM Punk on Collision. He did some inside stuff that the fans like you would understand, but the fans who don’t care to know the inside stuff would also enjoy. That’s the difference.
