It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs, CO. Our commentary team is Excalbur, Taz, Tony Schiavone, and Bryan Danielson,
Orange Cassidy (AEW International Champion) vs Swerve Strickland
Parker Boudreaux and Swerve’s other Mogul Associate seem to have quietly vanished, and Orange Cassidy’s back is fall taped up.
Both of these guys can do a lot of high flying stuff, but they do a lot of mat based stuff and some body manipulation after t6he opening flurry. We also get a return of Cassidy doing the comedy style, which we haven't had in a lot of these title matches. As the match goes on, Cassidy loses the tape on his back.
As the match goes on, it seems to be led by Swerve, who likes a choppy, spot style rather than the more “slow breakdown” style we have had in the last batch of Cassidy matches. The difference in this style is that in the last few matches, there has been a feeling that Cassidy is on the verge of losing in the back half of the match, but this doesn’t have the feel. In some ways, it makes Cassidy feel dominant over Swerve.
They have also had two corner bugs and announcements that Tony Khan will be announcing the first main event for Colission.
They trade a LOT of finishing moves before Cassidy is able to win with a roillup and a handrful of tights.
Winner and still AEW International Champion: Orange Cassidy
The Mogul Embassy runs to the ring and the lights go out. EWe hear a fan shout loudly WHO IS IT, since it can only be either Sting or The House of Black…
IT’S THE MAN CALLED STING!
We are told again about T9ony’s announcement after the Mogul Associates are run off by Sting and Darby Allin.
Jay White and Ricky Starks have a video for their match later tonight. They need to do more of this, building the main event as an actual main event.
Bryan Danielson is out and they let us know he has challenged Kazuchika Okada for Forbidden Door. He joins commentary so the Blackpool Combat Club is up next.
Chaos (Rocky Romero, Chuck Tyalor and Trent Beretta) vs the Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli)
Chaos attacks the BCC before the bell and once the bell rings, Chick and Yuta start off with Yuta taking a pile driver. It doesn’t take long for things to break down again and everyone is fighting. The story of the match is that the BCC is trying to show domination over members of Okada’s team (since the Best Friends are in Chaos when they compete in New Japan). The action is so fast we really don’t get a babyface in peril section of the match.
Throughout the match, Bryan talks about the technique of the people in the ring, pointing out how the BCC is better at the fundamentals, and focusing on the sloppy pins and other flaws of Chaos. It adds an extra dimension to the match, which is a well worked, but rather standard match by the BCC finally getting to dominate as they turn the match into a brawl. At the end fo the match, Mox has Rocky in the Bulldog choke, and Rocky has to tap out while Yuta nails Chuck with the hammer and anvil elbows.,
Winners: The Blackpool Combat Club
We then go to the Young Bucks and Adam Page in the back, where they say that they are challenging the BCC to fight without Takeshida and Bryan Danielson next week.
Bryan Danielson accepts and says he will end them.
We get a video package showing the feud between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay from New Japan, and they will be meeting again at Forbidden Door for the IWGP US Championship.
MJF is on his way to the ring, will he ask them to cut his music? Yes, he does!
His line of attack is that everyone in Colorado is a pot head. He then goes into how there is no competition for him in AEW. He also says something rude about the crowd’s mothers.
Adam Cole then comes to the ring.
MJF says he is excited because finally he has some worthy competition. MJF then talks about how after Punk abandoned him, he started watching Ring of Honor, and the only person who was any good was Adam Cole. He then mocks Cole for his Twitch channel and how Britt Baker runs the show. He also mocks how Cole’s body has slimmed down and looks frail.
MJF then talks about how Vince McMahon didn’t see top guy potential in him, and at first he thought it was a mistake, but now being in the ring with him, he thinks Vicne was right.
Cole then asks if that was the best MJF has, and he’s just coming off as an internet troll. He then breaks down MJF's attacks and says out of the two of them, he is the only one who could pass a drug test. Cole then mocks MJF as a coward because MJF won’t challenge him to a fight.
MJF then says he will wrestle him 8 days a week and beat his ass. And Cole then says it’s Rabbit season and they have themselves a match.
OK, he doesn’t say rabbit season, but he did use the old Bugs Bunny gambit to get the match. Second time they have done the “MJF gets outsmarted into a match”.
We then get Matt and Jeff Hardy with Brother Zay, and Ethan Page’s contract is now under Matt’s control. Matt says he will use this to make Ethan Page into a better man.
Hook and his slightly less unfortunate hair and Jungle Boy vs Dralistico and Preston Vance in a Texas Tornado match
Dralistico and Vance attack before the bell and it doesn’t do them much good as Hook and JB take control quickly. It doesn’t take long before Dralistico has a cable in the ring to attack JB while Hook and Vance fight in the crowd. JB is able to turn things around and goes for Dralistico’s mask as we go picture in picture.
When we go back to full screen, Vance has a chain around Hook’s neck and Hook is able to escape and wraps the chain around his hand before using it for a punch. We have tables set up at ringside, and Vance is busted open. Blood for a feud that’s a week old, yet again, they are pressing the fast forward button on the violence. Dralistico and Vance double team Hook, but Hook is able to rolls Dralistico into the ring so it becomes Hook and Vance fighting into the ring.
JB hits a chair shot on Vance’s head (but at least Vance gets his hands up to take the blow) before Vance is put through the tables.
We’re left with JB and Dralistico. Jose the assistance comes in to interfere, but Hook takes him out so JB can get the snare trap on Dralistico for the win.
Winners: Hook and Jungle Boy
For such a violent match, it was a one week feud and a team that hasn’t been together in ages. It just didn’t feel like it meant anything.
Tony Khan’s announcement this week is that the Main Event on the First Collision is Jay White, Juice Robinson, and Samoa Joe vs FTR and CM Punk.
Konosuke Takeshia w/Don Callis vs the already in the ring Damon Ace
Takeshita comes to the ring without music. We get a demonstration of Takeshita working as a heel and the match is over with a driving knee strike in about 90 seconds.
On the big screen, they repeatedly show Callis backstabbing Kenny Omega.
Winner: Konosuke Takeshita
Don Callis grabs a mic and he is booed louder than anything else on the show. He takes credit for every good thing Kenny Omega did and all of the bad things are because of Omega. He says he will cut the Elite out of the company for good.
In the back Alex Marvez knocks on Christian Cage’s dressing room, and he and Luchasaurus have beaten up Brock Anderson in revenge for what Arn Anderson did at Double or Nothing.
Kris Statlander (TBS Champion) vs Anna Jay w/Matt Menard
After a couple of months, it looks like Anna Jay is connected to the Jericho Appreciation Society again.
This is a spotlight match for Statlander to show the crowd what she does and she’s a valid champion. Menard is a great addition to Anna Jay as a comedy/goofball manager to draw heat. Taya Valkyrie is watching backstage and looks annoyed at the whole match. Once again, Statlander has a good “meat and potatoes” match winning with a tombstone piledriver.
Winner and still TBS Champion: Kris Statlander
Ricky Starks vs Jay White (Juice Robinson and FTR not allowed at Ringside)
They start their fight on the ramp and Starks charges to attack White. Starks then keeps up the attack outside the ring after the bell rings. Starks looks around the ring for weapons, and White tries to head to the back as he does. They fight on the stage and they fight down the ramp back to the ring. The match has simply been a fight, but this one feels earned, as Jay has been going after Starks for a while. It also helps Starks, since he shines when he is able to elt his anger run wild.
When we come back from the commercial, White is in control and has slowed the pace for his methodical work. They also have a super plex and both men sell how much it hurts to hit that move. When they move to neater falls, both of them get good, solid covers that look hazard to kick out of. As the match goes on, White does an excellent job of the little things, showing his back still hurts, making his misses look real, and Starks is always doing things out of anger.
We get a ref bump, and as the ref is down, the Gunns attack Rikcy Starks and take off into the crowd. White then hits the Blade Runner for thew pin and the win.
Winner: Jay White
