LIVE NOTES & PERSPECTIVE FROM AEW DOUBLE OR NOTHING 2023 IN LAS VEGAS

Walking into the T-Mobile arena there is a bar called BeerHaus that is playing AEW & WWE themes. 

Easy entry into TMobile. Lots of people in AEW shirts hanging outside who will miss the dark matches.

Tony Khan comes out and greets the crowd. Says “thank you” the fans.

Reneé Paquette and RJ City introduce the preshow with Paul Wight & Stokely Hathaway, they go over the card. The biggest pop are for BCC vs The Elite.

RJ City interviews Arn Anderson and asks him about strategy. They ask if Arn is packing heat & Arn tells RJ to “ask his mother”. Renee goes over The Outcasts vs Jamie Hayter & friends rivalry. Follow by Jericho vs Cole promo video. Stokely & Wight have differing views on who will win. 

Jim Ross comes out. Excalibur & Tazz wait for him ringside. 

Justin Roberts announces the first bout. Ass Boys & Ethan Page vs The Hardys & Hook kick us off.

Hook taps out Ethan Page at 15:48 after Page takes a Twist of Fate from Matt Hardy. Austin & Colten Gunn are becoming a real fun team.

Renee introduces Martha Hart to announce the Owen Hart Tournament. Martha & Tony Khan tell us that the Owen Cup will kick off at Forbidden Door.

Best Amigos (Trent & Chuck Taylor with Bandido) out first. Tony Nese, Ari Daivari & Josh Woods are next introduced by Mark Sterling. Big Bill & Lee Moriarty. Komander is out. The Butcher & The Blade follow. Jay White & Juice Robinson get a big reaction. Dustin Rhodes & Keith Lee are next. Crowd is into Lee. ROH tag champs the Lucha Bros (Penta & Fenix). Who’s house? “Swerve’s House”. Strickland & Brian Cage come to the ring. Orange Cassidy is here and the crowd wants him to retain. “Freshly Squeezed” chants. 

We go to the intro video and we’re live!

And we go. Cassidy defends his International Championship in a battle royal.  Bandido shows us his strength with a delay suplex Ari Daivari. Brian Cage enters and starts wrecking dudes. Keith Lee eliminates The Blade. Swerve is taking his time entering the match. He gets in and attacks Lee. Butcher is out via Fenix. Bandido out. Trent eliminates Moriarty via suplex on the ring apron. He gets eliminated. Brian Cage eliminates Keith Lee. Fenix is out. Penta up against Jay White & Ricky Starks. Starks eliminated White to the crowds delight. Down to Starks, Orange, Big Bill, Penta, Cage & Swerve. Bill eliminates Starks. Swerve gets Rhodes & Cage. Down to Swerve, Morrissey, Penta & Cassidy. Bill clotheslines Penta out. Comes down to Orange who outsmarts Swerve and he retains the International Title in 22 mins.  

Chris Jericho vs Adam Cole (Unsanctioned)

Jericho and Sabu get into a chair fight. Sabu puts Daddy Magic through a table. Cole & Jericho get started. Jericho suplexes Cole to the floor for the first big impact of the match.  

Jericho hits the Codebreaker for two and sprays Coke with a fire extinguisher. Britt Baker runs down and wears out Jericho with a kendo stick. Saraya tries to help and gets nailed too. Jericho throws a chair at Cole’s face. It hits him, he falls off the turnbuckle thru a table. Jericho rolls Cole into the ring and gets a chain. Cole beats the crap out of Jericho and referee stops that match at 19 min.

AEW World Tag Team Championship - FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) vs. Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal (with Satnam Singh, Karen Jarrett & Sonjay Dutt) Jay Lethal special guest ref. FTR retain in 20 minutes. This was like every Jeff Jarrett title match in early TNA but it’s fun and charming now.

Jericho & Saraya challenge Adam Cole & Britt Baker to a tag match on Dynamite. 

TNT Championship - Ladder Match  - Wardlow vs Christian Cage

This was a lot of fun. Christian is underrated.

AEW Women’s World Championship - Toni Storm vs Jamie Hayter (c)

Britt Baker goes after Saraya and gets her backstage. Shida comes down and takes out Ruby. Storm hits Storm Zero on Hayter for the pin. Hayter with a gutsy effort putting over Storm when she probably didn’t need to do the match.

AEW Trios Championship: House of Black (c) Malakai Black, Brody King & Buddy Matthews (with Julia Hart) vs The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn. 

Crowd loves both team and they are keenly aware Matthews is with Rhea Ripley. Black hits Gunn with a knee at 14:30 to retain. Fun match. Crowd really into both teams.

TBS Championship-  Jade Cargill (c) with Mark Sterling & Layla Grey vs Taya Valkyrie

Jade with new music and a dance troupe. 

Very good match. Jade retains in about 9 minutes. She’s 60-0. Kris Statlander returns and challenges. She wins the TBS Championship in 3 mins. Perfect outcome. This place loved it

AEW World Championship: MJF (c) vs Sammy Guevara vs Darby Allin vs Jack Perry

This match was great. Especially if you’ve paid close attention to AEW since it’s inception. An odd crowd really kicked it up a notch during the ladder match and hasn’t let up.

Main Event - Anarchy in the Arena: The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt & Nick Jackson & Hangman Page) vs Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castignoli & Wheeler Yuta) - Wild Thing played live in the arena over and over. Shit hitting the fan. Match was crazy. Crowd went nuts for it.

Weird show, crowd arrived late but when they got into it they got into it.
