5/17 NJPW BEST OF THE SUPER JUNIORS REPORT FROM MIYAGI, JAPAN

5/17/23 Quick Results for the Best of the Super Juniors 30 from Miyagi, Japan:

1 - Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Hiromu Takahashi

Good chain wrestling to start the match.   No silly stuff by Taguchi.  Taguchi hits a dropkick to the leg and locks in the ankle lock.  Taguchi was very aggressive but Hiromu stayed alive.  Hiromu rolls up Taguchi in the Hiromu Cradle Roll.

Hiromu pins Taguchi.

Hiromu Takahashi gets to 6 points.

Ryusuke Taguchi has 0 points.

2 - Kevin Knight vs. BUSHI

The taller Knight was very aggressive at start.  BUSHI sends him to the floor and hits a tope suicida.  Knight comes back with a top rope Frankensteiner.  Knight hits a Spike DDT.

Knight pins BUSHI.

Knight gets to 4 points.

BUSHI has 0 points.

3 - TJP vs. SHO

EVIL is at ringside again to cause interference. House of Torture was up to their usual tricks, using weapons and referee distractions.  TJP hits a tornado DDT on SHO after kicking EVIL off the apron.   TJP hits a Mamba Splash.

TJP pins SHO.

TJP gets to 6 points.

SHO has 0 points.

4 - Francesco Akira vs. Clark Conners

Kevin Knight joined Kevin Kelly on commentary.   The match goes to the floor and Conners slammed Akira into the announce desk.  Knight and Conners have heated words.  Conners throws Akira into the crowd.  Conners uses his power to keep Akira from using his speed.  Akira stuns Conners with a double stomp. They exchange reversals. Conners hits a spear and follows with No Chaser.

Conners pins Akira.

Clark Conners gets to 6 points.

Francesco Akira has 6 points.

5 - Lio Rush vs. DOUKI

Match begins fast with DOUKI hitting a tope suicida.  Both men reversed out of each other's favorite moves.  Rush went for a cradle but DOUKI reverses into the Italian Stretch #32. Rush tried to escape but DOUKI rolled him to the middle away from the ropes.

Rush submits.

DOUKI gets to 4 points.

Lio Rush remains at 8 points.

Wow!  Stunning upset.  DOUKI playing spoiler early and opened the doors for those in second place in the A Block to catch up to Lio Rush.

6 - Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Robbie Eagles

Kanemaru goes right after Eagles leg.  Eagles favored the leg the whole match and withstood the figure four leg lock.

Eagles hit Kanemaru with a flying thrust kick with his good leg.

Eagles pinned Kanemaru.

Robbie Eagles gets to 8 points.

Yoshinobu Kanemaru has 4 points.

7 - Titan vs. Mike Bailey

Titan tried to start the match quickly but Bailey stunned him with a kick on the floor.  More kicks and chops.  Bailey with a double knee.  Two count.  They trade more chops and kicks.  Titan recovers and they trade high risk moves to the floor.  They almost get counted out from the aerial moves. Titan gets tripped on the apron.  Bailey hits a flipping double knee.  They trade flying kicks.  Bailey hits the Flamingo Driver.

Bailey pins Titan.

Mike Bailey gets to 8 points.

Titan has 6 points.

8 - Master Wato vs. Dan Moloney

Moloney tries to ground Wato, keep him on the mat, using his power and not let him use his aerial moves. Wato was able to weaken him by applying Vendaval.  Moloney gets the ropes.  They trade high kicks.  Wato hits a high angle German suplex, planting Moloney on his neck.  Ouch!  

Wato pins Moloney.

Master Wato gets to 6 points.

Dan Maloney has 4 points.

9 - KUSHIDA vs. Taiji Ishimori

These longtime rivals knew each other well and could anticipate each others moves at the start.   Ishimori targeted KUSHIDA's arm for a submission.  KUSHIDA countered with a flatliner into the turnbuckle.  KUSHIDA attacked Ishimori's leg and tried a cross heel hook. Ishimori escaped.  KUSHI tries for the Hoverboard Lock by Ishimori reverses into Cipher UTAKI.  Ishimori applies the Bone Lock.  KUSHIDA escapes and hit a Bladerunner, then applies his own Bone Lock.  Ishimori rolls out and gets La Mistica.  They trade reversals.   Ishimori gets the Bone Lock.  KUSHIDA gets the ropes.  Ishimori with a Bloody Sunday.  Two count.  KUSHIDA goes for another Hoverboard Lock.  Ishimori powers him up and hits a Bloody Cross.

Ishimori pins KUSHIDA.

Taiji Ishimori gets to 8 points.

KUSHIDA has 2 points.

10 - El Desperado vs. YOH

YOH mocked Desperado in the ring and Desperado slammed him hard.   Then took him outside and whipped him into the crowd chairs.  YOH gets back to the ring and hits a plancha.  YOH throws Desperado into the ringpost and takes control of the match, stomping on Desperado.  YOH is asking disrespectful, kicking and mocking his opponent, very unusual behavior for him.  Desperado used a suplex and applied an Indian Death Lock.  YOH gets out and hits a Falcon Arrow.  Two count.  Desperado with a Spinebuster.  Desperado applies Numero Dos.  Rope Break.   Desperado hits Guitarra de Angel.  Two count.   Desperado misses a splash.   YOH applies the Out of Print submission.   Desperado gets the rope.  Desperado avoids the Direct Drive and Dragon Suplex.   YOH drops Desperado on his knee.  YOH with a Dragon Suplex.  Two count.  They trade strikes.   YOH kissed Desperado on the head and hit a knee strike.  YOH hits the Direct Drive.  

YOH pins Desperado.

YOH gets to 6 points.

El Desperado has 6 points.
