Last month, it was announced that Scotty Campbell, a member of Republic Leadership in the Tennesee House of Representatives would be resigning from his position after News Channel 5 in Nashville confronted him about being found guilty of sexually harassing interns. Campbell at the time had not faced any repercussions from the investigation into his actions but once the station confronted him, he announced he would be resigning.
Campbell is the promoter of TN independent promotion Besides the Ring out of Mountain City, TN. The promotion runs regularly in that market and has several events scheduled for this month.
Campbell, who served as vice chair of the House Republican Caucus, gained notoriety just prior to his resignation for voting to expel three Democrats who had engaged in a gun violence protest on the House floor in the wake of three 9-year-olds and three adults being murdered in a school shooting at The Covenant School, a Christian Grade School in Nashville. Two of three Democrats later had their positions restored.
News 5 reported in late April: "NewsChannel 5 has learned that potentially thousands of dollars have been spent to protect one victim, relocating her from the downtown apartment building where she and Campbell both had apartments, shipping her furniture back home in another part of the state and placing her in a downtown hotel for the remainder of her internship. Legislative officials refused to say how much they've paid out, saying that information is confidential."
Campbell's connection to professional wrestling was not reported at the time.
