WHAT DID ZELINA'S MOM FLIP FLOP MEAN?

By Roberto Melendez on 2023-05-06 22:18:00

I just read in your blog about the Zelina -Rhea match and the flip flop that Zelina's mom gave her.

That actually popped me big, as a Puerto Rican. The flip flop in Spanish is called a "chancla" or "chancleta" and in hispanic households, it was often used to discipline children in the old school days, similar to getting a whooping with a belt.

But the flip flop was most often used by the mother, not the father. and it would put some fear into you when you got threatened by it so that was like a cute little easter egg callout for the crowd. I enjoyed the hell out of that.
